EP #7: Planning Your Digital Afterlife
To learn more visit us:naplesmachelp.comCall -  239-595-0482Your estate planning is important. But remember, you have a book a password somewhere and all this that do your loved ones know where that is, because one day you won't be here. And they're gonna have to deal with all this. So basically, in your daily life, over the past decade or two, you've probably visited many websites, you might have some social media accounts with Facebook, Google, Twitter, Yahoo, you might have email addresses, you know, multiples, and each one of these entities has different processes for resolving the account in the case of a death. So what I want to do is cover some of those steps to make sure you're prepared and when the time comes. So there's no early time to start planning for this, just like there's no early time to start planning your will for your estate and your kids or grandkids or whatever. So what I want to do is cover some of the most popular entities, and then I'll tell you what their policies are, because some of them might surprise you. SoFirst, Facebook is a big one. So Facebook, basically, you have to go to Security Settings on your Facebook page. And you'll see an option that says legacy contact. So legacy contact is a person, maybe a spouse, or a brother or sister, you know, a sibling, that will be able to manage your account, if you pass away. So let's say I disappear one day, I get hit by a train and I'm gone, my wife can say, if she's the legacy contact, she can provide a final message, you know, Jeff has gone thanks for your wishes or whatever, provide information about the memorial, the funeral. And then she would also be able to download all my posts and videos. So the difference is Facebook doesn't allow them to log in or delete your account. But they can give those final messages to your friends and family so that you know what happened. Okay, so Facebook, really the accounts just kind of hang on there forever. But you can give that final goodbye on behalf of your loved one if they make you a legacy contact. But then, basically, your Facebook account just freezes. So that's Facebook's policy. Okay? Now, Google is another big entity. So you might sign into Google, it's always good to use Google anonymously. But if you do have a Gmail account, basically, Google you can specify in settings and advanced what's called a timeout period. So what that saying is that if you haven't logged in, in a certain amount of time, six months or a year, Google may send you an email and text that says, Hey, are you still with us, you know, because you haven't logged in in a while. And then if you can also set up trusted contacts in Google. So there's something does happen to you, they can, if you do that in advance, they can access your Google account and close it. So anybody that you give access to your Google account, as far as a trusted contact, they call it, they're able to shut down your Google account after you pass. Okay, so that's a little different from Facebook, Facebook, just kind of freezes it, and it's there forever. But Google, let your contact, remove it. So then you can get rid of all your Google data.Charlie McDermott And when you when you say the Facebook freezes that account that page, does that mean, your legacy person couldn't post anymore or orJeff Bohr  the legacy person could always post, okay, but it's kind of a third party thing because they don't actually log into your account. They just have access to the page where they can still post things after you're gone. Okay? They cannot do anything except download prior posts, they cannot edit them, they cannot remove them. So basically, if you pass on December 31, and last thing you did was a New Year's Eve party and you put some pictures up those will be there indefinitely, forever. And then when you You get the, when someone passes, they will, the
EP #6: What is the Cloud & How Does Apple iCloud Work?

EP #6: What is the Cloud & How Does Apple iCloud Work?
To learn more visit us:naplesmachelp.comCall -  239-595-0482What is the cloud and how is it useful to you? Well, basically, the cloud refers to software files and services that run from the internet. So most cloud service cases can be accessed through a web browser, such as you know, Safari, Firefox, Chrome, or other companies offer dedicated cloud apps when you think of Dropbox or Amazon storage. So basically, a lot of people just take these for granted. And I'm going to kind of explain how they work. Because you think you're kind of pulling it down from the sky. But really, it's just based on the internet. So some examples of cloud services that you probably use daily, but don't even think about are maybe Google Drive or Apple's iCloud, Netflix, Hulu, Yahoo, mail, dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, these are all cloud services. So basically, when you hear about the cloud, you're really talking about a computer or a group of computers known as servers. So when you have several computers connected together, they become a server, which can hold more data than a single laptop or desktop, dedicated what they call server farms. So you've got big racks of computers, you've probably seen these in the movies, where they just have a computer room. And there's big racks filled with all these black boxes that are spinning and worrying all the time. And that's basically where the cloud resides. So both Apple and Google and Amazon have huge server farms. So I know that Apple built one in North Carolina, which takes up acres and acres, and all it is is buildings, full of servers, which a server is just a group of computers. So that is the cloud. So the cloud, it's really coming from someone else's computer, and kind of what you want to think about when you use a cloud services, do you trust the person that is hosting this data? So as you may know, Apple has very good privacy standards, they're their number one. Mantra is privacy. So Apple servers are very encrypted, they're very safe. And even though something might reside on Apple servers, without your Apple ID and password, it can't be accessed. So the courts couldn't get it, the FBI couldn't get it, even Apple can't see it. So that's the most important thing when you think about a cloud service is is it secure? Now, as we all know, Google is an advertising company. So I would hesitate to store important personal documents on Google personally, just because they are known for mining data, and using it to market. So that's my personal opinion. And I know that it's happened in the past. So just be aware that when you do use a cloud storage service, make sure that it's secure because it is your data. And people see keep so much data on their devices now that it is imperative. So if you remember, like 10 years ago, maybe 12 years ago, before were there any cloud services, you had to keep everything on your computer, and hard drives in your house, you might have had backup drives, you had CDs or DVDs that you'd store data on. And that was great. But what that meant was you had to go home and plug in the CD or the backup drive to see the data. So one of the benefits of the cloud service is that since it is kind of an online service, you can access it from any device wherever you are. So whereas the 20 years ago, you just had to have your stuff on a hard drive, you had to be at your computer, connect every drive, look up all your files, find them while the cloud, what it means for most people is access. So what that means is that if you have a document or a calendar event, or a photo that you've used with a cloud service, it doesn't matter if you're in Timbuktu. Or in New York City, if you can get to a public library, log into a computer, you can access your data, because it is not really on a specific device. It is on a server which is the cloud. So the cloud means access that way. When you have an iPhone and an iPad and a laptop Mac or a

EP #5: How To Easily Change Your Email Address and Say Goodbye to Annoying SPAM!
To learn more visit us:naplesmachelp.comCall -  239-595-0482 What I want to talk about is how to change your email address. For most people, this sounds like a real scary and daunting process. Because if you've had an AOL account, that came out in 1985, which was 37 years ago, Oh, my Lord. So you think you've had it for a couple of decades, maybe, but 37 years, if you have a Yahoo account, you're 28 years old, that came out in 1994. So as you've noticed, time flies with technology, things change fast iPhones, all this stuff you can do with your cars. So you've kind of got a vintage type email there. And you might notice that you're starting to have problems. One of the problems might be, you're getting more spam than you've ever gotten in your life, and you're having to sort through junk and junk and junk to find one good message. Another problem might be that you've changed your internet provider. And if you had an internet address, like comcast.net, and your neighborhood switches to another provider, like Sumit, or hotwire, well, then that Comcast email becomes defunct. And as soon as they sign that contract and switch the service over, you're no longer getting email. So there's some times where people have to change their email. And there's some times when people want to change their email. So what I'm going to talk about today is how you can do that easily stress free, and then it'll make your life less stressful in the future. Basically, it's very easy to start or create a new email address, you have a couple of big options that are out there that are robust that are not going to go anywhere. One is Apple's iCloud service. So you do not have to have an Apple device to create a free iCloud address. And as you probably know, Apple is much more involved with security and privacy. So Apple is not going to scour your inbox for marketing ideas and materials that they can sell back to you through advertising. So Apple's iCloud, you can create a free iCloud address@icloud.com. And you can get, you know, Charlie McDermott at iCloud. Now if a name is taken, you might have to put a couple of digits behind it or get a little creative. And I wouldn't recommend saying the magical princess of the forest@icloud.com. Because that's too long to type in. So just try to come up with a name that relates to you so that when people see it, they will recognize it, instead of saying, you know, big cat, daddy pool shark@icloud.com That doesn't tell anything about who you are. And it might be marked as spam. So kind of get something close to your name if you can. thing. The another reason people often like to change their email address is because they've seen their friends do it. And every person listening to this podcast has gotten at least two or three emails in the past year that say, Hey, Charlie, I'm switching from AOL to Gmail. Here's my new email address. So don't worry about people not knowing what to do with your new email address. They've been using email long enough now for up to 3738 years that they know how to change an address and their address book. So don't let that stress you out. So another big email provider is Gmail. So as you know, or as you may know, the G in Gmail stands for Google. And Google is an advertising company. So remember, it's a great search engine. But basically, Google is harvesting your data to provide revenue, because when you click on an ad, they get a fraction of that revenue. So with Google, be cautious, because when you agree to the terms, one of the things that Google you're giving Google permission to is to scan your subjects for possible marketing materials. So a Gmail address is free, but it does come with some baggage. And the fact that you may be used as a marketing tool, with a Gmail address, you can still get a Yahoo address, again, that's been around for 28 years. So it might not be the best choice. Another option for a lot of people

EP #3: How To Prevent Cyber Scams | 3 Ways People Get Scammed and How To Get Out of It
To learn more visit us:naplesmachelp.comCall -  239-595-0482It's not uncommon to hear about a friend or family member who's been taken by a scam every week or two or once a month at least. And you'll get emails from friends and family. And this happens. So it's becoming more prevalent. And believe me, it's going to probably get worse before it gets better before they figure out a way to thwart these attempts. So basically, there are three types of cyber scams where people are trying to get into your computer or get your information. And I'm going to tell you how to identify and avoid each one. So the first one that you want to be aware of is the phone call. So this happens more if you have a landline, but it is happening with cell phones more often. Because you're putting your cell phone on websites and stuff to for purchases. So your numbers are out there. But basically, sometimes the phone will ring and you'll answer it. And they say there's somebody from Google, or Microsoft or Apple, and they're here to help you with your problem. And you're thinking, oh my gosh, my printer hasn't been working in two weeks, Thank gosh, they called Well, actually, these guys are preying on fear. And when they call you, they will give you a scary message, hey, we noticed your computer was infected. And most people will say, Oh my gosh, thank you for calling. I'm scared, you know. So that's the fear factor that they instill in you. So at that point, you become a fish and you're hooked. And that's why they call it fishing pH I sh ing. But basically, they do this 1000 times. And if they get three people, they've won, you know. So basically, they'll say, Oh, we've got noticed a problem with your computer. And you're like, Well, yeah, I've been having problems and you think they're there to help. But then they say, well, we need to get into your computer to see what's going on. And then what they'll do is they'll try to download a program on your computer, it might be something like TeamViewer, or go to my PC, which are legitimate programs. If a family family member or you know, a computer tech is helping you. But these bad guys can also use these to get in. So once you put that can program on your computer, you'll see the mouse move around a little bit. And they'll click on a few things. And they'll say, Aha, here it is, you know, and they'll dig down into the registry files or the the directory files and show you something that has a funny name and say, Oh, you're infected, you're infected, we need to get this up immediately. And then they'll explain the cost. And they might say, Oh, this is only $100. Or it's a $250. And that covers you for a year or maybe $375. And that's for a year. And then we'll just renew it every year and we'll keep an eye on your computer and keep you safe. But believe me, whatever they showed you is a scam. And then what they may do is if you fall for this and you give them your credit card, and then let's say you decide two weeks later that you want to cancel. Well the number they called you from it's not a working number anymore. They rotate phone numbers like more than you change your socks. So basically, you'll never be able to get a hold of them. And then the only option you have is usually to cancel the credit card and start from scratch, you know, and then you have to remember where your card was on file. So it can be really scary when you're on the phone with them. But remember, they know nothing about your computer, they were just calling randomly, they call 2000 people, and you were the one of the ones that said, Okay, so remember, unless someone is sitting next to you in your home or office, and they're telling you, hey, there's something wrong with your computer. That's the only way to trust that they know what's going on, somebody from outside the room, can never see your computer, especially from 1000s of miles away with an Indian accent tha
