Love it or hate it, there is a case for the Falcons to draft Brock Bowers at 8
The 2024 NFL Draft is finally upon us. Hot take after mock draft, website after radio segment; EVERYONE has an opinion. One popular opinion around Falcons fandom is that they absolutely can not take another offensive skill position player in the first round. The Falcons are in so much need on the defensive side of the ball, that there's no way that they would draft an offensive player, right? RIGHT? What if the Falcons and Head Coach Raheem Morris are confident enough in their own ability to develop and improve the defense as is, that they would rather give quarterback Kirk Cousins another weapon instead? That's the scenario that we will go for for now: the Falcons want to give Cousins another weapon. Assuming that most of the first seven picks in the draft are chalk, including a team trading up to take the fourth quarterback off of the board. That means that Williams, May, Daniels, Harrison, McCarthy (or Penix), Nabers, and Alt are off of the board, which is how most draft experts have the draft playing out. This would make it less likely for a team to want to trade in to the Falcons pick at eight. That leaves Washington's Rome Odunze and Georgia's Brock Bowers on the board as the best available pass-catchers. While it would definitely take several dominoes falling a certain direction, I explain that why if everything being said about him by the "experts" is true: there is most certainly a case for the Atlanta Falcons to take Brock Bowers with the eighth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
