CHRONICALLY FULLY SICK SCANDAL UPDATE: Chloe and Jo sleep nude in an oxygen tent which they believe gives them sexual powers! (Hey, that's only a half truth.)Hi, we're back after yet another """inadvertent hiatus""" (us being flare bears) but hey, thats what you get with such chronically fully sick hosts such as us! This ep we get into: k*t treatments, learning by accident what UTI's can turn into, Stranger Things being accidentally good and accessible, Lizzo accidentally being ableist, whether it's better to give up hope for a cure, body neutrality, an update of our nemesis, "ozone therapy", and much much more.CW: In this ep we do discuss abortion and the the US overturning Roe vs Wade.LINKS:Lizzo ableist slur (since we recorded this ep Beyoncé also decided to include then cut the same slur from her new album, so this is an updated story): https://slate.com/culture/2022/08/beyonce-renaissance-lizzo-spaz-ableist-slur-lyrics-history.htmlStranger Things subtitles accessibility: https://www.slashfilm.com/923053/yes-the-stranger-things-4-subtitle-team-was-trolling-a-little-bit/?utm_source=google.com&utm_campaign=googlestory_fullstoryUS Abortion x medication Twitter thread: https://twitter.com/_trashville/status/1543030336266948608?s=20&t=iXvsSeWUs_mGnDS_gcvpnQSelma Blair's brand Guide Beauty: https://www.guidebeauty.com/Keith Kahn-Harris for The Guardian 'I gave up hope of a cure for my chronic condition. They haven't showered, they're scraping their way back from nervous breakdowns, and they're ready to talk about it! Sorry for the lapse in eps – these two hellbeast women love to give advice about how to look after yourself, but they also love to not follow any of it themselves! Very cute and cool and sexy. In episode 14, the gals touch on the real-life effects for spoonies that happened when opioid meds went prescription-only, the weird 'disabled villain' trope that Hollywood loves to lean on, and a brand new QUACK WATCH about bad Goop health ghost man that loves to blend celery and call it a cure for everything. And of course, new SPOONIE HOTLINE!! Get up in this gig.CONTENT WARNING - the beginning of episode touches on the effects that current news stories about sexual assault can have on your mental health. No details of the stories or charges are specified, but if you're trying to avoid this the current media hellscape altogether, maybe skip the first 5~ minutes of this ep.LINKSLooking after yourself when sexual assault dominates headlineshttps://www.sbs.com.au/news/insight/coping-with-distress-caused-by-major-coverage-of-sexual-abuse-allegationshttps://www.abc.net.au/everyday/how-to-take-care-of-yourself-when-sexual-assault-makes-headlines/100010900New rules around opioid prescriptions leave few options for Australians in pain, ABC Newshttps://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-03-09/pain-sufferers-say-limiting-their-access-to-opioids-in-cruel/13219230Five Common Harmful Representations of Disability, Mythcreantshttps://mythcreants.com/blog/five-common-harmful-representations-of-disability/Washington Post story about bad man health ghost Goop man Anthony Williams (the chix refuse to link his actual website)https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/wellness/celery-juice-will-not-work-miracles-no-matter-what-you-read-on-goop/ Hosted on Acast. Wellness? Sounds Well Suss
EPISODE NINE BABY! Chlo and Joanna have been fatigued to all gaddamned heck lately, so they found a Netflix doco series about the clusterf*ck that is the wellness industry to binge and rant about - classic stuff. They also delve in the undeniably common link between wellness, conspiracy theories and Nazism (hi Pete), explain how the ‘spoon theory’ began, and also commemorate the wonderful late Stella Young. Chloe also found a tin foil hat book in her parents’ bookshelf about how to ‘cure’ arthritis or some nonsense, so of course she had to do QUACK WATCH and read out über-borked bits while Jo scream laughs. Also more SPOONIE HOTLINE, hell yeah! The chix actually got quite a bit done in this episode, considering how utterly rubbish they felt. Good for them!LINKSStella Young’s TED talk ‘I’m not your inspiration, thank you very much’ ‘Nazi Hippies: When the New Age and Far Right Overlap’ by Jules Evans (Medium)‘Why are conspiracy theories rampant in the 'wellness' industry? Welcome to conspirituality’ by Derek Beres (Big Think)‘How Covid-19 paranoia united the wellness industry and rightwing conspiracy theorists’ by Brigid Delaney (The Guardian)‘[Un]Well’ documentary series, Netflix (the pod references episodes 1 - ‘Essential Oils’ and 6 - ‘Bee Sting Therapy’)‘How spoons became a powerful symbol for invisible disability’ by Chloe Sargeant, SBS Voices Hosted on Acast.
