Episode 8 - Jonathan Armogam Part 1: ”Who are yer?’ How one footballer overcame addiction to discover his true identity.
It's easy for elite athletes to fall into the trap of attaching their self-worth to their performance and continually seeking affirmation from people.  Former pro footballer Jonathan Armogam experienced this entrapment in his career and chose the path of alcohol and substance abuse, when the drug of public affirmation ran out.   In this podcast Bruce, at the 2016 One Life Conference, speaks to him about the turning point in his life and career when he received Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour - the source of his true identity and fulfillment.    Bruce also shares Chaplaincy golden nuggets like the 4 “Ds”  typically experienced by many elite athletes and the 3 areas where many athletes get their identities incorrectly from. He shares the Sports Chaplaincy South Africa dream of having chaplains caring for and mentoring sports communities in South Africa, experiencing these challenges.     Watch out for Part 2 with Jonathan and Bruce where they have a rich and insightful conversation exploring the question, "Where's the money gone? Why do so many sports people experience money problems, and what can be done about it?"   HELP US BUILD THE AUDIENCE PLEASE FOLLOW/SUBSCRIBE ON YOUR FAVOURITE PODCAST PROVIDER - like, comment, share on your social media platforms.  Follow us: Instagram - @callup_sportsprayer TikTok - @callupsportsza Facebook - Sports Chaplaincy South Africa   CREDITS Executive producers - Autram Jacobs & Bruce Nadin Audio Engineer - Sean Collard (hisman@lifestyleinaction.info) Presenter - Bruce Nadin (brucenadin@gmail.com) Social Media - Tamsyn Lang Call Up Voiceover - Siyoli Waters

Episode 6 - Athi Mayinje: Destination or Destiny? How one Rugby player discovered how he could use his platform for a greater purpose.
In this interview, pro rugby player Athi Mayinje relays his story of how as a young up and coming rugby player with the talent and ambitions for higher honours, he threw everything at building a successful career in the game.    He describes the toll that a myriad of injuries had on his progress on the path that he chose for himself.  A path that eventually lead to the realisation of using his talents and status not to enrich himself, but as a means to touch the lives of the less fortunate in the challenged communities where he came from.    It's a story that really encourages us to determine God’s higher purpose for the talents and gifts bestowed on us…over and above mere personal ambitions.   FIND OUT MORE ABOUT ATHI'S WORK WITH LOVES SPORT AFRICA   www.lovesportafrica.com Instagram: @Lovessportafrica@gmail.com Phone: Athi Mayinje +27 (0)789795652     HELP US BUILD THE AUDIENCE PLEASE FOLLOW/SUBSCRIBE ON YOUR FAVOURITE PODCAST PROVIDER - like, comment, share on your social media platforms.  Follow us: Instagram - @callup_sportsprayer TikTok - @callupsportsza Facebook - Sports Chaplaincy South Africa   CREDITS Executive producers - Autram Jacobs & Bruce Nadin Audio Engineer - Sean Collard (hisman@lifestyleinaction.info) Presenter - Bruce Nadin (brucenadin@gmail.com) Social Media - Tamsyn Lang Call Up Voiceover - Siyoli Waters

Episode 4 - Keenan Horne: Balancing education, career, relationships & working towards an Olympic dream
Don't miss our conversation with the vice captain of our SA men's field hockey team, Keenan Horne.    Keenan stands out as an elite athlete with many outstanding sporting accomplishments. He is an Olympian, played in a World Cup, Commonwealth Games, is a Nations Cup champion and is a pro league player in Europe.    Yet, he has a clear understanding that his sporting career is not all-encompassing. Early in his career, he understood the realities faced by all pro sports people, and diligently pursued his academics and carved a professional career outside of sport, while still at his sporting peak.    It's a great story of the underdog who received no handouts or special treatment growing up. Despite this, he achieved sporting, academic and many other achievements, while clearly understanding God's perfect will for his life needing to be the guiding force.   We encourage you to listen to this inspiring story of a highly-focused, God-centred, no-excuses, outstanding achiever who can clearly teach us some principles of understanding our true identity and winning on the fields of sport, and life.   HELP US BUILD THE AUDIENCE PLEASE FOLLOW/SUBSCRIBE ON YOUR FAVOURITE PODCAST PROVIDER - like, comment, share on your social media platforms.  Follow us: Instagram - @callup_sportsprayer TikTok - @callupsportsza Facebook - Sports Chaplaincy South Africa   CREDITS Executive producers - Autram Jacobs & Bruce Nadin Audio Engineer - Sean Collard (hisman@lifestyleinaction.info) Presenter - Bruce Nadin (brucenadin@gmail.com) Social Media - Tamsyn Lang Call Up Voiceover - Siyoli Waters

It's straight, raw and real as usual. Join us as we have a heartfelt discussion with South Africa's 100m hurdles record holder, former African champion and World Cup gold medalist, Rikenette Steenkamp.   It's a moving story of the exceptional sacrifices of track and field athletes, who live extreme lifestyles with minimal compensation for many years to earn a shot at becoming an Olympian.  For some, this dream is realised; yet for others, despite being at the top of their game and breaking records, miss the opportunity due to factors beyond their control.   This is the story of an athlete who missed out on two Olympics and the pain, lament and sacrifice of someone who had invested so much only to miss out on reaching the pinnacle of her sport. It's a powerful story of learning to confront pain in an emotionally and spiritually healthy way.   It's a faith building conversation.
