Episode 28 - The Benoit Family Part Two
Send us a Text Message. In June 2007 Canadian professional wrestler Chris Benoit killed his wife and son and then took his own life. With allegations of domestic abuse in their marriage it could be that Chris finally killed his wife and son after years of abuse. However, some speculate that they many blows to his head he took during his wrestling career led to brain damage and could have caused Benoit to kill his wife and child. Episode 19 - The Kuczynski family
Send us a Text Message. On Friday 19th January 2024 police forced entry into a house in Costessey which is just outside the centre of Norwich in Norfolk. They were responding to a call from a concerned member of the public.Inside the house they found two children and two adults dead and presumably murdered. They were two sisters, their father and their aunt and they had all died by stab wounds.  We look into the police communications and media portrayals, and how they shape our understanding of such tragedies. With no criminal trial or full inquest to guide us, we rely on the puzzle pieces provided by various reports, all while being mindful of the sensitive nature of the incident. This episode is in memory of Jasmin, Natasha, Kanticha and Bartlomiej. Information and support ·        Samaritans UK Contact Us | Samaritans ·        National Domestic Violence Helpline UK 0808 2000 247  ·        Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) Home - AAFDA ·        Women’s Aid www.womensaid.org.uk ·        Mental health support USA I'm looking for mental health help for myself | Mental Health America (mhanational.org) ·        Domestic abuse helpline USA 1.800.799.SAFE Domestic Violence Support | National Domestic Violence Hotline (thehotline.org)  References  Vote for Killer in the family podcast in the True Crime awards for Listener's Choice! True Crime Awards 2024 - Listeners' ChoiceEverything we know about the deaths at a home near Norwich | Norwich Evening News (eveningnews24.co.uk)  Father taken to hospital by police weeks before Costessey deaths | Evening Standard Man found dead with three others in Norfolk had called 999 over mental state | Norfolk | The Guardian Norwich: Family of four found dead in house - BBC News Two girls found dead in Norwich home died of stab wounds, post-mortem finds (msn.com) What do we know about the discovery of four bodies near Norwich? - BBC News Coroner fights back tears as she opens inquests into deaths of two girls, eight and 12, their father, 45, and their aunt, 36, who were all found with fatal knife wounds at Norwich family home | Daily Mail Online Credits Hosted and created by Clare Laxton @ladylaxton  Produced by: Clare Laxton  https://killerinthefamilypodcast.buzzsprout.Support the Show.

Episode 18 - The Longo Family
Send us a Text Message. In December 2001 the bodies of two young children were found in the waters of Lint Slough in Oregan. Days later the bodies of a woman and another child were found less than a mile away. Mary Jane Longo and her children Zachary, Sadie and Madison had been found dead and their husband and father Christian Longo was nowhere to be found. Put on the FBI’s Most Wanted list Christian Longo was found and arrested in Mexico where he was using a false name of Michael Finkel who was an American journalist. A killer who denied his crimes until the end, Christian Longo killed his whole family in cold blood to cover up his many failings. The core of this episode delves into the abyss of one man's unthinkable crimes. This narrative isn't just about Christian Longo's unfathomable decision to murder his family and flee, but also about honouring the memory of Mary Jane and her children. Episode 17 - Bennett Pladl, Katie and Anthony Fusco
Send us a Text Message. In April 2018 Steven Pladl suffocated and killed his seven-month-old son Bennet – who was also his grandson. The next day he shot and killed his estranged wife Katie – who was also his daughter - and her adoptive father Anthony. He then took his own life. A serial predator who took whatever and whoever he wanted Pladl’s murders spanned three states and ruined numerous lives.  This episode is not for the faint of heart, for it scrutinizes how Pladl's manipulation and abuse persisted under the noses of those who should have intervened. We probe the silence of adoptive parents, the lapses in authority response, and the chilling reality that this story could have had a different ending. The conversation is raw, the details are unsettling, but the importance of shedding light on such darkness is undeniable. This is the story of Bennett Pladl and Katie and Anthony Fusco.  Information and support  Samaritans UK Contact Us | Samaritans  National Domestic Violence Helpline UK 0808 2000 247  Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) Home - AAFDA  Women’s Aid www.womensaid.org.uk  Mental health support USA I'm looking for mental health help for myself | Mental Health America (mhanational.org)  Domestic abuse helpline USA 1.800.799.SAFE Domestic Violence Support | National Domestic Violence Hotline (thehotline.org)   References  Steven Pladl triple murder and suicide - Wikipedia Steven Pladl, Katie Pladl incest case: Details emerge in murder-suicide - CBS News https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/steven-and-katie-pladl/id1264424015?i=1000620217158  Steven Pladl's ex-wife Alyssa slams authorities for 'shocking failure' | Daily Mail Online Credits  Hosted and created by Clare Laxton @ladylaxton  Produced by: Clare Laxton  https://killerinthefamilypodcast.buzzsprout.com  Music by Tom Box and from Pixabay.  Support the Show.

Episode 16 - The Haight Family
Send us a Text Message. On 4 January 2023 Michael Haight killed seven members of his family – his wife, his mother in law, and his five children, before killing himself. Having been investigated for domestic abuse previously, his wife Tausha had initiated divorce proceedings just two weeks before the killing, Michael exerted his one final act of control over his whole family.  The facade of happiness, maintained by Michael Haight before he committed the unthinkable, starkly contrasts with the suffering endured by his family, a chilling revelation about the power dynamics and hidden strife within their home. This is the story of Tausha, Macie, Briley, Sienna, Ammon and Gavin Haight and Gail Earl.   Information and support  Samaritans UK Contact Us | Samaritans  National Domestic Violence Helpline UK 0808 2000 247  Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) Home - AAFDA  Women’s Aid www.womensaid.org.uk   Mental health support USA I'm looking for mental health help for myself | Mental Health America (mhanational.org)  Domestic abuse helpline USA 1.800.799.SAFE Domestic Violence Support | National Domestic Violence Hotline (thehotline.org)    References   Killing of the Haight family - Wikipedia  Enoch, Utah - Wikipedia  Michael Haight: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know (heavy.com)  Michael Haight obituary: What Mormonism had to do with the murders—and the response. Episode 15 - eleven families destroyed
Send us a Text Message.Stepping into the dark corridors of the human psyche, we confront the daunting reality of family annihilations, where those meant to protect become the perpetrators of ultimate betrayal. As I weave through my master's studies, the weight of understanding coercive control and its link to intimate partner homicide bears heavily on this episode. We honour the victims, not just as statistics, but as individuals whose stories demand to be heard and remembered. Harnessing the power of research and the heartfelt words from those left behind, we seek to comprehend the incomprehensible. The discussion delves into the motivations of men like Robert Mochrie and John List, whose twisted sense of control and masculinity led them down a path of destruction, forever altering the course of many lives. In giving voice to the sorrow and strength of the families affected, we reaffirm our commitment to keeping the memory of the lost alive. Through this exploration, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of these tragedies, their underlying causes, and the importance of ongoing research and dialogue to prevent future losses. That day Alan Pemberton shot and killed Will in the driveway of the house he shared with his mum, he then killed Julia – she was on the phone to 999 at the time. Alan then took his own life.
