Even with all the distracting commercialism and misguided paganized myths that our society has amassed around the occasion, God is still profoundly using the Christmas season to bring light into the darkness of many minds whom He has chosen to receive eternal redemption. What a gift!

Think about crisis moments in history. In modern times it might be the 1929 day that the stock market collapsed or the ‘infamous day in history’ – December 7th – when the American naval fleet was attacked at Pearl Harbor. For many who lived through those days of terrifying turmoil, there is no doubt that it seemed like their world was being shaken. But it wasn’t the end of the world. And neither is the present shaking, that understandably puts people in a state of confusion and perplexity. Is Thanksgiving in America a legacy worth reclaiming? We all know the traditional Thanksgiving story of the Pilgrims, but have you considered the little-known experiences of the his-story that COMPELLED those humble believers to take such risks, posed by tyrants, to make the choices they did?

Proverbs 16:9 says “The mind of a man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” This is called the Providence of God. God guides his children and God provides for their way. It’s one of the key characteristics that all of our nation’s founding men and women knew about their Creator and Savior.

“Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Yes, truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked. The LORD looked and was displeased to find there was no justice. He was amazed to see that no one intervened to help the oppressed. So, he himself stepped in to save them with his strong arm, and his justice sustained him.” Isaiah 59:14-16

Psalm 97:2 tells us that “…Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.” He’s talking about the basis for all of His authority and dominion. It’s all based on that which is RIGHT and JUST. The implication couldn’t be clearer. If righteousness and justice are pre-eminent with God, that means that wrong doing and in-justice are the object of God’s absolute hatred. How should we respond to that?

In times of relative peace and quiet, the virtue of courage is often unseen and little spoken of. But when the pressure is on; when the conflict of good and evil is raised for all to see; when the dangers and threats of evildoers are brazen and menacing, then courage arises in those who are empowered with personal knowledge and experience.

Truth-seekers with even a pinch of skepticism smell the fishy-ness of propaganda. We seem to be witnessing the full-on war on justice, truth, and all that is good and right.
