Our Editor's Take

Hotter Than Ever is a podcast about empowering women over 40. The host of the show is Erin Keating. As they age, women feel pressured to fit their lives into tighter and tighter molds. In this podcast, Keating challenges listeners to break free from them.

Keating has worked on award-winning shows like Portlandia and James Corden's Next James Corden. She was busy climbing the corporate ladder when two things happened. First, Keating almost died from COVID-19. Second, she turned 50. These prompted Keating to reexamine her life choices and to ask herself if she was, in fact, happy. Then she upended everything. Keating divorced her husband, quit her executive job at Snapchat, and packed her bags. After going on her own Eat, Pray, Love journey—with less "pray" and more "love"—she realigned her priorities. Now Keating wants to help others do the same on her podcast.

In one podcast episode, Keating looks into the concept of likability. Caring about what people think is a way in which women repress their authentic selves. In another episode, Keating has a guide to online dating for new divorcees over 40. She explains acronyms like GGG, NRE, and ENM. Keating invites women to stop waiting for the "right" body before making changes in their lives.

Podcast listeners may also enjoy Keating's interviews with other women. She talks to author Melissa Febos about sexual empowerment at 40. Dating coach Bela Gandhi instructs Keating to think of relationships as contracts. Kelly McMasters wants women to stop apologizing for using their voices. Lisa Ann first worked as an adult film star but retired when she discovered fantasy sports radio. Keating asks her about her refusal to define herself using other people's standards.

Hotter Than Ever is for women over 40, but younger women might also learn a lot from the podcast. The tone is funny and irreverent and the guests are fascinating. The show is an excellent choice for older women who feel stuck in their lives and need the courage to make a change. New episodes premiere Thursdays.
