Our Editor's Take

Otherworld is a podcast for skeptics and true believers in the paranormal. The host, Jack Wagner, doesn't consider himself to be either. Jack was preparing a Halloween episode for his comedy podcast, Yeah, But Still. He invited listeners to submit firsthand accounts of strange experiences. The response was overwhelming. He was especially stunned by the patterns he began to see. So Jack decided to start a whole new podcast on the subject.

In one episode of Otherworld, Jack interviews a woman named Terra from Tucson who believes she saw a UFO. She gave detailed descriptions of extrasensory powers and prophetic dreams. The whole experience changed her.

In another episode, the podcast host talks to his listener Alec about his out-of-body experiences. These started in his childhood as fun. Alec felt compelled toward a foreboding presence-the night hag. In the following episode, Jack talks to podcaster Joshua Citarella. They wonder about a connection between the night hag and SUNDS. That's an acronym for sudden unexplained nocturnal death syndrome.

An encounter with Bigfoot is the theme of a few episodes after Jack interviews one guest. Alex was camping by himself in Uwharrie National Forest. The parks closed during the COVID-19 lockdown. He describes an eerie feeling of absolute quiet when entering the park.

"There is no wind, no birds, no insects." He says he just heard his own footsteps. He also got the feeling of being watched by someone. Later he says he felt something like an electric current going through his body or a steady pulsing. After his return from the woods, his description matches others' who suspect an encounter with Bigfoot.

Jack commits to listening to people's stories without judgment. He also refuses to alter content to make it more entertaining. This combination makes the podcast Otherworld an enjoyable listening experience.
