It's as if a heavy cloud has descended, making even simple tasks feel overwhelming.  Fortunately, psychology has a lot to say about  why we feel this way and, more importantly, what we can do about it.Feeling overwhelmed and unmotivated often results from a mix of psychological factors. One main contributor is burnout – a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion due to prolonged stress. When we push ourselves too hard without adequate rest and self-care, our bodies and minds rebel, leaving us drained. Recognizing this, we can take steps to avoid the prolonging of these low times by setting up a support system to prevent it from escalating. We can keep crappy moments from turning into crappy days, weeks or even months. We may not get to choose not ever to experience "negative" emotions, challenges, or hard times. Even if you don’t believe you are worthy and valuable, guess what—you still are worthy and valuable!There is a difference between evaluating actions and evaluating personal worth. We can learn from our mistakes and grow as individuals by assessing our efforts. However, evaluating our worth by any of the things that are apparent values of culture - appearance, status, relationships, popularity - can threaten our well-being and put us out of alignment with what is true. There are things you can do right away to begin to boost your sense of self-worth and ensure that you value yourself like you ought to be valued—as a full, complete, and wonderful human being who is deserving of love and respect, no matter what.Surround yourself with people who make you feel good about yourself, who inspire you, and help you stay connected to the voice of Truth.Turn up the volume on truth or positive thinking and delete the untruths. Call out the truth in others - tell others about their value. When you receive compliments, when others notice your value - say Thank You! No deflections, explanation, justification... just Thank You. Take it in. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Send us a Text Message.The human mind can engage in mind wandering, which can improve memory consolidation, problem-solving, and creative thinking, as well as reduce stress levels. However, prolonged mind wandering can lead to negative emotions such as stress, anxiety, and depression. Happiness is a complex mix of both mental and brain-related factors. It is important to maintain a balance between mind wandering and staying focused. Incorporating mindfulness meditation, setting realistic goals, avoiding multitasking, creating mindful rituals, and embracing self-awareness are all ways to cultivate a happier life. Pursuing well-being, a combination of happiness, health, and purpose, is a key human aspiration, even if we define well-being in different ways. What would it look like if you believed that it is all already inside you - what if you could work toward your goals without any “sense of worth” without having to bolster a sense of self-confidence, without it meaning anything about the core of who you are, if you life matter or not. What if you could just work on your goals, work on skills, and show up knowing how extraordinary you are, knowing how much you matter? Laziness, stubbornness, or a desire to go against the norm may also contribute to the gap between common sense and common practice. While it may not always be easy, striving to follow common sense is crucial for making good decisions and leading a fulfilling life.In this episode: Psychological Insights: Our brains are wired to prioritize short-term rewards over long-term gains, a phenomenon known as temporal discounting. Breaking free from these patterns requires a conscious effort to override our default modes. Social and environmental factors play a pivotal role in shaping our behaviors.
