The media often shapes the narrative around immigrants. So, many immigrants have been stepping in to fix these lapses in storytelling. The Immigrantly podcast is one such platform. It allows immigrants from varying backgrounds to tell their stories in their own words.
Saadia Khan is the executive producer and host of the Immigrantly podcast. Saadia combines her passion for human rights activism with digital content creation. The Pakistani American is also a Hearts & Homes for Refugees nonprofit board member. She has bylines in The Globe Post and Brown Girl Magazine. The award-winning Saadia is also the host of another podcast, Invisible Hate.
In America, there are discordant conversations around immigration and immigrant families. These conversations often focus on data and policies for or against immigration. This podcast provides a connection between that data and real people. The stories shared in the series are about courage, determination, and resilience. Listeners learn what it means to be an immigrant in America. The tales shared evoke a range of responses, from amazement to inspiration to anger.
On Immigrantly, Saadia seeks to change the narrative around immigrants. She discusses the need to change the skewed perception of migrants. She shares that it's not all trauma. There are stories of community triumph and progress. Guests on the podcast range from Asian Americans to African immigrants. Conversations on the podcast are informative, engaging, and memorable.
In one conversation, Saadia and her guests discuss how faith influences mental health. In that episode, she chats about her spirituality and how she finds tranquility.
