Power Rangers: The Audio Drama is a contemporary adaptation of the beloved '90s show. The podcast offers a more adult and realistic spin on the adventures of the live-action heroes. The original Power Rangers TV show first aired in 1993. The Japanese Super Sentai series inspired the American version of the program. Aside from the TV series, the Power Rangers franchise has many other related media. These include video games, comics, card games, films, and plays. Many praise the science fiction podcast for its updated storylines, characters, and themes.

Power Rangers: The Audio Drama is not connected to the original production company. Instead, it's the passion project of Karl Dutton, a creative Power Rangers fan. Karl is the creator and director of the podcast series. His other works include Batman: The Long Halloween and X-Men: The Audio Drama. Sudama Kanchibhotla is another writer on the series.

The podcast debuted in 2018 and features about 70 voice actors. Garret Scott is the narrator of the show. The actors playing the six Power Rangers are an eclectic mix of people. Joey Sourlis plays Tommy, Katherine Black plays Kimberly, and Connor Terrell plays Billy. Nick Ericksen is Jason. Kenneth Toles Jr. and Chloe Liao portray Zack and Chloe.

The Power Rangers battle the evil Rita Repulsa, Lord Zedd, and several other foes in the podcast. Rita is hellbent on conquering the earth, and the ragtag team of rangers must stop the witch. The show chronicles the infighting and power struggles between the Power Rangers as they fight enemies.

Power Rangers: The Audio Drama deviates from the original storyline. Scenes have more graphic violence, among other adult themes. The series also contains strong language and sexual content absent from the original. Despite the updates, the podcast may evoke nostalgia for many Power Rangers Fans.
