Our Editor's Take

The Adam Friedland Show is an ironic talk show podcast. It's produced and hosted by standup comedians Adam Friedland and Nick Mullen. This is their second joint comedy podcast after working on Cum Town. Mullen created Cum Town, and Friedland was one of his cohosts.

On The Adam Friedland Show, the comics continue their outrageousness. They jeer at politicians, celebrities, and societal behaviors with bold humor. Friedland and Mullen invite funny guests to their conversation. They also test monologues and announce upcoming tour dates. Their political commentary leans left of center, but it also satirizes politics.

The Adam Friedland Show is the opposite of boring. Each podcast episode may need a second or third listen because there are so many things to absorb. An episode with guests Brandon Wardell and Jamel Johnson discusses Jonah Hill, John Lennon, and anime within the first few minutes. The comedians propose a spoof of the show Family Matters called Family Bladders. They proceed to act it out in a moment of total improv. The same episode analyzes John Lennon's murder, Tim Heidecker's stabbing, and Law & Order. Each one-hour episode gives listeners what seems like several hours' worth of content.

The subtle premise of this podcast is a satirization of other podcasts and talk shows. But it's mostly more silly than mean-spirited. In one episode, Friedland gives an opening monologue while Mullen contradicts him off-camera. This might not be the podcast to play at work. Profanity, race, vaping, drinking, and sex enter the conversations. But it's one that pulls laughter from unexpected places.

The Adam Friedland Show doesn't fit into a tidy category. Its meandering style is part of its charm, and it has already charmed quite an audience. Also, sometimes the comments go from edgy to offensive and cause controversy. New episodes of this podcast come out on a periodic basis.
