Fast fashion and the world's fashion addiction is causing an environmental catastrophe. We have a conversation with Liz Ricketts, co-founder of the OR Foundation, a U.S. and Ghana based non-profit working at the intersection of environmental justice, education, and fashion development. Kantamanto Market is the largest Secondhand Clothing Market in West Africa, located in Accra, Ghana where 15,000,000 items pass through the market each week and 40% leaves as waste. It's also where the the Global North exports most of its unwanted clothes. We chatted with Liz Ricketts, co-founder of the OR Foundation to learn more about the serious implications that overconsumption and overproduction has within the fashion industry, the journey of our discarded clothes, and so much more.  Links mentioned in this episode: Support the Secondhand Solidarity Fund https://donorbox.org/secondhand-solidarity-fund/ Dead White Man's Clothes research project https://deadwhitemansclothes.org/intro @theorispresent on Instagram This episode is sponsored by ReLyst.com, a software solution designed to help e-commerce sellers create listings that are both efficient and accurate for multiple online marketplaces. Thrifted & Repurposed Valentine’s Day Party DecorWait, can we talk about imposter syndrome?
We all know Thanks, it’s thrifted is a reflection of our friendship and the bond we created because of our thrifting passion. The conversations, the banter, the laughter genuinely mirror our real life discussions. But we’ve come to realize our BFF chats are filled with so much more we want to share. We turn to each other constantly for advice on family, fashion, fears, and even food, and no matter what we know we have the support we need.  We’re going to step outside of the thrift zone once a month and try out a new mini series for the next three months called Wait , can we talk about… where we bring a topic that we’re struggling with outside of thrifting and discuss it together  on air. This will be the last episode of every month.  We hope you’ll join the conversation with us online as we dig a little deeper on Thanks, it’s thrifted podcast! In this episode, we explore the feeling of self-doubt, setting healthy work boundaries, reframing what success means to us, and so much more.
