The Wisdom and Power of Teen Girls

The Wisdom and Power of Teen Girls
“A girl should be two things: who and what she wants” ? Coco Chanel What are the pressures society puts upon teenage girls? Teen hosts Julia and Keerthi have a lively discussion about their struggles and experiences with peers, parents, and social media encounters, including posts of unrealistic body images and beauty standards. They then converse with guest author, Chelsey Goodan, with her book, Underestimated. It is obvious that Chelsey honors teen girls and really listens and cares about their challenges and concerns. Chelsea is nonjudgmental adult who teenage girls trust to share their innermost secrets and doubts — all the things they wish they could communicate to their parents and the world at large. She uniquely understands what makes teenage girls tick, and through this book, Goodan passes the mic to them. Rather than dismissing teenage girls based on fears or treating them as problems that need to be solved, Goodan encourages us as parents, and as a society, to help teenage girls unleash their power and celebrate their intrinsic wisdom, creating more healing and connection for everyone. With her vivacious personality, Chelsea conveys love and understanding while encouraging listeners to listen and engage with teens. On today’s segment of “Space Spotlight”, reporter Saanvi celebrates the pioneering women in space history and the inspiring lessons they've imparted to generations of young dreamers, especially the teenage girls who look up at the night sky and see a canvas of endless possibilities. She starts with Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman to orbit our planet. Then showcases Sally Ride's achievements and efforts in STEM education, followed by other young female space groundbreakers including Mae Jemison, Christina Koch, Katherine Johnson, and Peggy Whitson. The courage of these women encourages young women to aspire to leadership roles in their careers. Teen girls are wise and powerful. Overturning Wrongful Convictions

Overturning Wrongful Convictions
“True peace is not merely the absence of tension: it is the presence of justice.” ? Martin Luther King Jr. Julia hosts a fascinating and insightful hour about the wrongful convictions of young people. She begins by citing the incarceration of Kenneth Hovland, who faced four decades of wrongful conviction. She also highlights DNA testing. The emergence of DNA technology has not only enabled us to identify perpetrators with unprecedented accuracy but has also served as a beacon of hope for those who have been wrongfully convicted. Organizations like the Innocence Project have tirelessly championed the use of DNA testing to exonerate innocent individuals, offering them a second chance at freedom and redemption. Since 1989, a staggering 575 people in the United States alone have been exonerated based on DNA testing. These are individuals who were once deemed guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt, yet whose innocence was revealed through the power of science and perseverance. Julia then interviews teen Bijan Taheri, founder and director of Youth for Innocence, an organization dedicated to overturning wrongful convictions. Through volunteering, Youth for Innocence gives students first-hand experience with criminal law, aid lawyers in investigating the thousands of letters they receive from prisoners claiming innocence while taking the first step for prisoners to achieve their exoneration. They provide an initial training program to teach student volunteers to evaluate cases, examine new evidence, and assist pro bono attorneys with RT notes and summaries of cases. Volunteers then apply this knowledge to real-life cases, gaining first-hand experience with legal work and the administration of justice, and earning community service hours. Bijan personally conducted RT notes for defense attorney Ellen Eggers, as seen on Netflix’s Innocence Files Episode 5, on cases to reinvestigate and exonerate innocent prisoners. The conversation is riveting and the topic is of critical importance. Tune in! Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom

Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom
Artificial intelligence is the brush that paints the canvas of possibility, blending innovation with imagination to craft a future limited only by our dreams. - Chat GPT Education is critical to success. Host Julia and reporter of “A.I. and Us,” Kevin, talk about how A.I. can and does affect our lives and can be used in the classroom. Almost two centuries ago, what was taught was math, science, reading, writing, history, and foreign languages, and that hasn’t changed at all, not even what aspects of it were taught. At most, some topics were removed and some added, a few new textbooks here and there, but nothing meaningful. Artificial intelligence can integrate into the current curriculum, and have the curriculum adapt to it, and by extension, the rest of modern society. Technology has no limits, but humans do. Julia shares her experience and that of other students and teachers using A.I. She also asked ChatGPT to write an opening as the host of a radio show. It responded “Welcome, listeners, to today's special broadcast focusing on the use of ChatGPT in schools. I'm your host, Chat GPT, and I'm thrilled to guide you through this exploration of how artificial intelligence is revolutionizing education.” She exhibits how ChatGPT writes glorious poetry and very funny jokes. Julia was able to show the strengths and weaknesses of Chat GPT, including how the response was boring and non-engaging. The bottom line is that A.I. CAN be useful in the classroom. It’s what you DO with it, that makes a difference. Is Outer Space Our Next Home?
“Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.“ – Arthur C. Clark This episode of Express Yourself! could be right out of a sci-fi novel! Could outerspace become our next home? Keerthi hosts and presents a segment suggesting the idea of venturing beyond our planetary borders. She believes it is more than just finding a new place to hang our space helmets; it's about expanding our horizons, both literally and metaphorically. It's about pushing the boundaries of what we thought possible and daring to dream of worlds beyond our wildest imagination. She wants to ignite the flames of curiosity, to inspire you to gaze up at the night sky with wonder and awe, to dream of worlds beyond our own and to dare to reach for them. In her segment, Space Spotlight, Saanvi starts with Mars as our first adventure. The journey ahead is about building physical infrastructure, but also about gathering the resilience, adaptability, and community spirit needed to live in such a different environment. Mars is like the Goldilocks of our solar system – not too hot, not too cold, and with a day almost as long as ours. It's got water ice, which is crucial for life, and it's the most accessible place for us to land, live, and learn about living on another planet. Plus, its surface has varied geography, from mountains taller than Everest to canyons longer than the U.S. is wide. It's the best shot we have at a second home in the solar system. So let us embrace the uncertainty of the cosmos, let us revel in the beauty of the unknown, and let us boldly declare that yes, outer space is indeed our next home. For in doing so, we embrace the boundless potential of the human spirit, and we affirm our place in the grand tapestry of the universe. Are you ready to launch? Body Autonomy: The Effects of the Dobbs Decision and the Repeal
“There is no force more powerful than a woman determined to rise.” - W.E.B Dubois In this episode of Express Yourself!™ Teen Radio, teen host, Hannah Sahota, passionately discusses the Dobbs Decision's repeal of Roe v. Wade and its profound implications for women's bodily autonomy. Providing a historical backdrop, she underscores the significance of landmark cases that paved the way for reproductive rights The Roe v. Wade decision, a watershed moment in 1973, recognized the right to choose abortion as protected under the 14th Amendment's right to privacy. Hannah emphasizes the positive outcomes, including reduced maternal mortality and safer abortion practices. Transitioning to the Dobbs Decision of 2022, she vehemently criticizes the conservative justices involved and condemns the resulting abortion restrictions in various states. Hannah raises concerns about the negative consequences, such as a potential surge in rape-related pregnancies and the exacerbation of health inequalities. The host strongly challenges the pro-life stance, accusing conservative justices of prioritizing outdated ideals over women's rights. She advocates for comprehensive research on women's health and questions the empathy and understanding behind the pro-life position. Introducing The Hotseat to her segment, Hannah meticulously scrutinizes the backgrounds of Supreme Court Justices involved in the Dobbs Decision, exposing allegations, controversies, and potential conflicts of interest. The podcast also delves into the FBI's investigation into the People of Praise (PoP), revealing disturbing claims of abuse cover-ups within the Christian sect connected to Justice Amy Coney Barrett. Expressing frustration with the Dobbs Decision, Hannah calls for a reevaluation of the Supreme Court and urges the appointment of empathetic and transparent individuals to ensure a fair and unbiased justice system. This episode as voiced by a young woman serves as an earnest call to action for protecting women's autonomy, safety, and access to reproductive healthcare. Teens and the War in Ukraine

Teens and the War in Ukraine
“But it is youth that must fight and die. And it is youth who must inherit the tribulation, the sorrow and the triumphs that are the aftermath of war.” - Herbert Hoover On February 24th, 2022, the world changed drastically for the approximately 44 million people who were living in Ukraine. Vladamir Putin invaded their country, and the war grinds on. War is disastrous for every individual but how has it affected teens? Our talented reporters, Julia and Rory, weigh in on what life is like for youth in Ukraine. Rory talks about high school students who get three days of training before being dispatched to the front lines. He also provides information on what teens in the United States, as well as teens all over the world can do to provide comfort and support to our fellow teens who are living in Ukraine. Julia expresses the role social media has played in both positive and negative ways. Russia has utilized manipulated videos, fake accounts, and forged documents are part of the arsenal used to shape global perceptions in their effort to “strangle support for Ukraine.” Social media giants like Facebook and Microsoft have taken a stand against disinformation. Microsoft's June 2022 report revealed over 300 Russian-sponsored websites promoting conspiracy theories within two weeks of the invasion. As the conflict unfolds, remember that your voice matters. Managing Screen Time
Nov 26 2023
Managing Screen Time
“Not all screen time is bad, but it matters how much time we’re spending and what we’re gaining from the time.” - Ariene Pellicane Charvi and Keerthi host a fascinating program on how to manage screen time. Charvi states that in an era where our lives unfold increasingly on screens, the concept of screentime has become a ubiquitous and often debated facet of modern existence. As we navigate this digital age, understanding screentime is not just a matter of tracking minutes spent on devices; it's about unraveling the intricate tapestry of human behavior, societal norms, and the impact of technology on our well-being. Keerthi concludes that managing screen time is an epic adventure, a quest to reclaim lost minutes and conquer the digital dragons that threaten our productivity. Armed with the App-etizer, the Notification Hydra slayer, and the Unplug Amulet, you shall emerge victorious in this battle for time. Reporter Rory joins the conversation with his segment, The Breakdown to discuss how its challenging to manage social media when a student is forced to be on screen daily for schoolwork. Social media has affected young adults in many ways, and while it does offer more connectivity, it can lead to many mental and physical issues, such as problems with sleep as well as engaging in less physical activity, and harm the development of the brain indirectly or directly if teens use technology too much in place of real-life experience. He advocates asking parents for help in limiting the usage. For example, eliminate devices during mealtimes and sleep. Reporter of A.I. and Us, Kevin talks about how A.I. can help manage screen time and warns about the dangers of looking at a screen for too long as the blue light can damage eyes. A.I. can warn when screen time has gotten excessive on its own. A.I. can monitor health. A.I. can leverage gamification principles to make the process of managing screen time engaging and rewarding. If a particular approach to screen management proves ineffective for an individual, A.I. candynamically adjust its interventions. This adaptability ensures that solutions are not one-size-fits-all but are personalized to meet the unique needs and preferences of each user. A.I. becomes your own personal virtual doctor, making sure that you get whatever works for you. However you do it, make sure to limit your screen usage for improved health and socialization. Tackling Teen Mental Health
Nov 5 2023
Tackling Teen Mental Health
Children’s mental health is an evolving crisis that has been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Hosts Julia and Keerthi dive into the mental crisis while interviewing teens. Kirpa talks about the factors that contribute to decreased mental stability including neglect, abuse, bullying, or trauma. In Connecticut, House Bill No. 5001 of 2022 is a crucial step in abating the issue. Teen guest, Nilan Kathir, has researched the bill, its provisions, public testimonies, amendments, and has spoken with state lawmakers and experts in the field. These efforts collectively reveal the politics involved in the bill’s passing, barriers of implementation, and effects of the bill in children’s mental healthcare. He shares his findings on Express Yourself! The Breakdown reporter, Rory, advocates for schools as the best place to teach children about mental health, self-awareness, and coping skills. He believes If we can help schools teach children and their families how to manage their emotions in a healthy way from a very young age, we can create safer communities that can help everyone feel their very best. Being there for a child means taking care of oneself first, demonstrating and modeling good self-care and mental health awareness. Positive reinforcement is important in building stronger capabilities to overcome challenges. “A child’s mental health is just as important as their physical health and deserves the same quality and support.” Kate Middleton Follow us: https://www.starstyleradio.com/expressyourselfteenradio • https://www.facebook.com/ExpressYourselfTeenRadio/ • https://www.facebook.com/BTSYAcharity/ • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/expressyourselfradio/ NFTs: https://www.StarStyleCommunity.com
Quantum Computing
Oct 29 2023
Quantum Computing
The history of the universe is, in effect, a huge and ongoing quantum computation. The universe is a quantum computer.” - Seth Lloyd Quantum computing is a budding field that has been receiving a lot of attention recently due its immense potential for solving complex, previously unsolvable problems at high speeds. At the quantum level, objects act differently: quantum objects can teleport, entangle, or occupy different spaces at the same time. Host Keerthi starts the program discussing qubits. These qubits can exist in multiple states at the same time, thanks to a phenomenon called superposition. She then interviews teen Adelina Chau, an active researcher in quantum machine learning for drug discovery with several published works, Adelina is excited to discuss what the field is all about, where its potential and applications lie, and what her work has been about. By sharing her experience in learning and researching quantum computing, she hopes to inspire other teenagers to explore this fascinating, growing field. In our final segment, Rory, who challenges us to consider the moral and ethical implications of technology, as well as the effects of technology upon our national security in the United States. One of the biggest concerns is that quantum computing can render all of our current cybersecurity and encryption useless. Quantum computing will be able to crack encryption on everything from banking transactions and confidential emails to things like blockchain. Exoplanets and Astronomy
Oct 15 2023
Exoplanets and Astronomy
Host Keerthi invites interstellar explorers and cosmic philosophers, to embark on a journey to the stars, a voyage that's equal parts scientific discovery and philosophical wonderment in today’s program. Keerthi discusses the mind-boggling realm of exoplanets and how they inspire the deepest of philosophical questions. She then interviews teen Nairi Davidian, who has been researching exoplanets and joins the show to explain her exciting findings. Exoplanets have been found in a variety of creative ways, with each method being more effective in finding a certain type of planet. In terms of habitability, there are many factors that can influence a planet’s potential to host life. There are four general requirements for life to thrive. Firstly, there must be a solvent, such as water. The “habitable zone” is defined as the span of distance from a planet to its particular star that allows liquid water to exist. For life to thrive, living conditions must be relatively stable. There must also be energy available for an organism to use. In addition to these requirements, there must be a presence of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, and sulfur, which compose most of the known biological molecules. Man must rise above the Earth—to the top of the atmosphere and beyond—for only thus will he fully understand the world in which he lives.” - Socrates • Follow us: https://www.starstyleradio.com/expressyourselfteenradio • https://www.facebook.com/ExpressYourselfTeenRadio/ • https://www.facebook.com/BTSYAcharity/ • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/expressyourselfradio/ NFTs: https://www.StarStyleCommunity.com
Branding Through Social Media

Branding Through Social Media
We’re living at a time when attention is the new currency.” - Pete Cashmore, Founder of mashable.com Host Julia presents her Passion in Action to showcase how telling unique stories are the way to brand through social media. Having people associate you with a certain aesthetic, even certain words is worth any research or production effort. You can cut through the fluff on the internet, and connect with your customers, not just about what you’re selling, but the emotion and feeling going with it. Social media humanizes your brand. Stories are our lifeblood, and social media is our stage. Embrace the power of storytelling to connect, engage, and inspire. Kevin joins with his segment “A.I. and Us,” where he discusses how A.I. influences branding through social media. A.I. can help with branding on social media by performing data analysis of consumer habits, behavior, and preferences. Businesses can use these to fine-tune their advertising plans or products to make them more presentable and attractive to the general populace. Julia and Kevin have a conversation about ethics and integrity with A.I. as a tool. A.I.-powered fraud detection systems are instrumental in safeguarding a brand's reputation. Chatbots can also be a major point of assistance in advertising. They provide instant responses, tirelessly handle inquiries, and offer a seamless conversational experience. In the realm of branding through social media, chatbots serve as an invaluable tool for enhancing customer engagement. The synergy of these A.I. applications contribute to a positive brand image, fostering trust and loyalty in the digital age. • Follow us: https://www.starstyleradio.com/expressyourselfteenradio • https://www.facebook.com/ExpressYourselfTeenRadio/ • https://www.facebook.com/BTSYAcharity/ • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/expressyourselfradio/ NFTs: https://www.StarStyleCommunity.com
Educational Inequities and School Funding
Oct 1 2023
Educational Inequities and School Funding
Until we get equality in education, we won’t have equality in society.” - Sonia Sotomayor Host Keerthi tackles educational inequalities and the rollercoaster of school funding in today’s program. She compares finding a balanced approach to cutting three cakes to ensure educational resources are allocated fairly, taking into consideration the unique circumstances and needs of each school district In the mission to tackle educational inequities. Doing this is not a one-size fits all. Keerthi interviews teen research, Ethan Zhang, who believes we must prioritize addressing disparities in school funding. Underprivileged communities often lack the necessary resources to provide quality education to their students. As a result, many students are denied the chance to participate in enriching extracurricular activities, receive individualized attention, and fully develop their academic and interpersonal skills. We must create a level playing field, guaranteeing each student an equal opportunity to unlock their complete academic potential and pave the way for a brighter future. Express Yourself!™ is excited to introduce a new reporter, Rory Cox, with his segment, The Breakdown, where he’ll talk about important issues affecting young people in the world. In today’s show, Rory discusses CTE in contact sports. CTE, which stands for Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, is a type of dementia that comes from receiving hits to the head continuously over the course of your life. Because the cause of CTE comes from being hit repeatedly in the head, people who play contact sports such as football, boxing, Lacrosse, soccer, hockey, and wrestling, will have a higher risk of developing CTE in their brains. He proposes that the American Academy of Pediatrics creates a standard that during an annual visit Pediatricians ask their patients and their parents if they are engaging in contact sports. If the answer is yes, a certain protocol regarding the discussion of the risks and preventive measures for CTE should be put in place in conjunction with schools. Everyone deserves an adequate education and school policies that keep everyone safe, regardless of their zip code. • Follow us: https://www.starstyleradio.com/expressyourselfteenradio • https://www.facebook.com/ExpressYourselfTeenRadio/ • https://www.facebook.com/BTSYAcharity/ • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/expressyourselfradio/ NFTs: https://www.StarStyleCommunity.com

Lessons from Dogs
I have found that when you are deeply troubled, there are things you get from the silent devoted companionship of a dog that you can get from no other source.” - Doris Day Hosts Keerthi and Julia bark and howl about their love for our canine companions! Dogs, those lovable furballs of joy and chaos, teach us about life, love, and laughter. They interview Hersch Wilson with his newest book, Dog Lessons, Learning the Important Stuff from our Best Friends. Hersch shares his research and personal connection to the dogs he’s lived with, loved, and learned from. He talks about the importance of adopting dogs from shelters, how humans are guardians, not owners, how breeds are not indicators of behaviors, and the importance of grieving when a dog dies. Dogs are critical members of our family with lessons for living a full and joyful life. Keerthi zooms in on how dogs remind us that life is all about embracing the little things, finding joy in the simplest of pleasures. Julia shows us that dogs are more than just furry companions; they're entrepreneurial inspirations, business motivators, and sources of tail-wagging enthusiasm.
