Our Editor's Take

Nic Edwards and Patrick "Captain" Edwards are friends from Columbus, Ohio who love cold beers and cold cases. If you’re a fan of TV’s Unsolved Mysteries or the podcast Crimes and Consequences, prepare to be blown away by True Crime Garage.

Before starting their crime podcast career in 2015, Nic worked in property management and Captain was a banker. The pair saw their opportunity when the Serial podcast, one of the first true crime podcasts of its kind, earned industry-wide acclaim in 2014. They had always been crime junkies at heart, obsessing over and following cold cases on TV and in the newspaper. Seeing the genre's success in podcasting gave Nic and Captain the desire to broadcast their passion for the entertainment of others. Low and behold, True Crime Garage was born!

Nic and Captain tout their true crime podcast for the not-too-serious armchair detectives. They’re around for fun and adventure just as much as they are for gore and scares, which makes this show a perfect blend of fun and fright. The pair explore archived missing persons cases, cold cases, infamous serial killers, and chilling solved cases.

In upholding Nic and Captain’s life advice: "Don’t take yourself too seriously," the pair frequently mix in a beer whilst foraying into the minds of serial killers and cold-blooded murderers. Without requiring a drink for the listener, this podcast always has some light-hearted lessons for fans as they explore this dark-themed genre.

Liz Barraza ////// 815Part 1 of 1 www.TrueCrimeGarage.comThis week we feature an unsolved case that left Houstonians baffled and in fear, and a police force hunting a killer.  A young woman, Liz Barraza was shot and killed in her driveway just before 7AM on a Friday.  The murder was captured on home security cameras.  The vehicle that the murderer was driving to and from the scene was captured on several cameras.  In fact, police found footage of the vehicle in the neighborhood from several hours prior to the murder.  Why was the killer patrolling this quiet and safe neighborhood?  Were they perhaps familiarizing themselves with the street, the victim's house, and planning when to strike?  Liz Barraza was well liked and loved by so many.  Who wanted her dead and so badly that they committed the murder where they could be seen by many?  Her family is still holding out hope that they can get justice for Liz. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1-713-222-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online or through the Crime Stoppers app.  Beer of the Week - Tropic Boom from Saint Arnold Brewing CompanyGarage Grade - 4 out of 5 bottle caps  More True Crime Garage can be found on Patreon and Apple subscriptions with our show - Off The Record.  Catch dozens of episodes of Off The Record plus a couple of Bonus episodes and our first 50 when you sign up today.  True Crime Garage merchandise is available on our website’s store page.  Plus get True Crime Garage Pod art that you can post on your socials on our Media page.  Follow the show on X and Insta @TrueCrimeGarage / Follow Nic on X @TCGNIC / Follow The Captain on X @TCGCaptain  Thanks for listening and thanks for telling a friend.  Be good, be kind, and don’t litter!

Blue Print for Murder /// Part 2 /// 811Part 2 of 2 www.TrueCrimeGarage.com The Gilgo Beach Killer, The Long Island Serial Killer, L.I.S.K., and the list of names, and monikers goes on and on.  These are all names given to an unidentified serial killer that is responsible for four murders, maybe eleven unsolved homicides, and likely the number could be higher.  These names refer to a series of murders that took place from 1996 to 2011 in which the remains of eleven people were found on the South Shore of Long Island, New York.  From the public’s perspective, this all started when Shannon Gilbert went missing in the early morning hours of May 1, 2010.  Her disappearance triggered the finding of four sets of remains off of Ocean Parkway at Gilgo Beach. These victims became known as the Gilgo Four. By May of 2011 police had discovered six more sets of remains in the area. But the truth is that this nightmare started long before Shannon disappeared.   In 2023, an architect then 59-year old, Rex Heuermann was arrested and initially charged with three of the murders. Just this month he was charged with a seventh homicide. This week in the Garage, we talk about what the police found in Rex Heuermann’s home, specifically a planning document.  This is a kill document, one that many are calling Rex Heuermann’s Blue Print for Murder.  Beer of the Week - The Ogre by The Guardian Brewing Company Garage Grade - 3 and 3 quarter bottle caps out of 5  More True Crime Garage can be found on Patreon and Apple subscriptions with our show - Off The Record.  Catch dozens of episodes of Off The Record plus a couple of Bonus episodes and our first 50 True Crime Garage episodes when you sign up today.
