Our Editor's Take

First Things First is the podcast version of the popular Fox Sports 1 (FS1) TV program. The program is similar to ESPN's SportsCenter in format. It sees the three hosts discussing sports stories from four major sports leagues: MLB, NBA, NHL, and NFL.

The hosts of First Things First are Chris Broussard, Kevin Wildes, and Nick Wright. Longtime sports fans will likely have some familiarity with this trio. Broussard has been a sports writer since 1990 when he began his career writing for The Cleveland Plain Dealer. He primarily reports on the NBA and basketball-related stories. Broussard joined the FS1 team in 2016 after spending several years with ESPN.

Wildes has been a producer for various sports programs for well over a decade. He previously served as a producer for ESPN before leaving to join FS1. Despite spending many years behind the camera, Wildes did not become a commentator until 2020, when he became a First Things First cohost. Podcast cohost Wright began his journalism career in the early 2010s in Kansas City, Missouri. After hosting a radio show for several years, he joined the FS1 team in 2016 as an on-air commentator.

One of the best aspects of First Things First is that it doesn't hyper-focus on one sports league or team. Those looking for a podcast with a well-rounded feel will likely find this show enjoyable. Listeners can find out what is happening in various leagues in a short amount of time. The three hosts are knowledgeable and have an excellent interplay together. They manage to be fun without being loud or flashy. It feels less like a morning radio show and more like the listener is catching up with some friends who love sports.

New episodes of First Things First usually air daily from Mondays to Fridays. Special weekend episodes are sometimes available if a major news story occurs.
