Lazarus Recovery Podcast

In the Navy, we had planned maintenance for our gear.  It gave us planned tasks.  In like manner recovery and faith have suggested tasks to complete to ensure good operation.

Recovery is the name of the game!  And the playbook is the same even if we are too dense to remember it! Number One is to Ask for help Stupid!  No matter what you are recovering from the game is the same!

Whether new or old-timer the simple rules never change!

In faith circles unspoken is code for prayer requests given without names. In recovery circles, this is the genric request for prayer without names

Coming back from trauma means dealing with the basics again.  Do the basics again.  Go to meetings. Pray.  Rest.  Exercise.  Be smart.

In my early days in recovery my mantra was You get what you need not what you want! Recovery is not God as I understand Him, but rather dealing with who He actually is.  The Devil is who you want to understand Him to be.  God is who he says He is.  God tells the truth deal with it and Live.  The devil lies.  Follow him and die forever.  He will tell you what you want to hear.  And he will feast on you forever. I know this is tough stuff!

After many adventures, I am back with no compromise.

Why is coming to Jesus so hard?

I got sober many years ago chanting the phrase 'you get what you want not what you need! This podcast is about the principle of faith and recovery in Jesus.

There is the term Codependency.  In this situation, our best compassion turns into a mess. In the podcast, I talk about the role of sloppy compassion in recovery and theology.

At the junction of faith and Recovery, the hardest thing is the act of choosing your Truth and dealing with the consequences of that choice.  Everything at this nexus of faith and recovery is consequential.  But these choices and the consequences of these choices are the whole stories of this Junction.  With 'Balls and Strikes', a series of podcasts I will try to draw out the elemental points of faith and belief.

This discusses the concepts of Fellowship and tribalism in faith and recovery. First, we look at what fellowship means in recovery groups and in faith groups. Then we look at what tribalism looks like in both areas.

If you live at the junction of Faith and Recovery there is one elephant in the room.  The elephant is God as I understand Him.  The secular argument is about what difference it makes.  Does God have a complex?  If we take a liberal attitude to God then maybe some suffering person will feel free to come and get sober.  This is reasonable on the surface.  Recovery folk thinks a hard line on this is bigoted and harsh.  I try to explain where this difference leads in this podcast.  This is the junction between conservative and liberal theology.  Listen I hope this explains a lot.  But it will underline some important points to think about.

This podcast continues my experience years ago receiving what they called the baptism of the Holy Spirit.  It was during the Catholic phase of my recovery.  During the sessions, they explained what I now know were the ingredients they found were necessary to bring a person to Life in the Holy Spirit. In this podcast, I take on the most difficult portion of the series.  This is the prayerful renunciation of spiritual practices that hindered this new life in the Spirit.  In like manner I know I am confronting accepted associations with spiritual concepts which have worked their way into the hearts of even pentecostal churches.  Many of the influences are in the very teaching material of some churches.  Many affections of families are based on practices that are rooted in material that we did renunciate forty-plus years before,

Life in the Holy Spirit describes the Biblical experience of operating in the Holy Spirit as described in ACTS. These are my experiences getting sober in AA.  I encountered the Catholic Charismatic renewal in my early sobriety and was baptized in the Holy Ghost in my second year of sobriety,  This series of podcasts tells the story and shares lessons I have learned in over 46 years in Pentecost.
