#54 Renee Rivera: Finding Strength After An Unimaginable Tragedy
Renee Rivera came on the show to talk about growing up with Latinx in the midwest, motherhood, and the reason she became an educator. Renee retells the tragedy that struck her family 15 years ago when her 6-month-old son, Issak, was murdered by her boyfriend.  Our conversation was powerful, and I want to thank Renee for being brave enough to share her story with us. This discussion may be difficult for some to process, and if you think that, imagine what it felt like to live through it. We can learn from Renee's strength and how to find the will to go on even after the unthinkable.  Follow Renee on Instagram: Link ----more---- If you are anyone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please click National Domestic Violence Hotline for information. The Friday Debrief: Companion Episode To Garon Wade Interviews Flight Attendant Joe

The Friday Debrief: Companion Episode To Garon Wade Interviews Flight Attendant Joe
Happy Friday. This is not a typical podcast episode. This is The Friday Debrief, which is a shorter podcast episode that is available to patron members of the podcast on the Patreon account page. On this Friday Debrief, I dove deeper into the conversation I had with Garon Wade about surviving sexual abuse. For that reason, I wanted to make it public for everyone to listen to and also give people an idea of what The Friday Debrief is all about. As I said before, I originally wanted to invite a survivor of sexual abuse on the show to discuss their journey, but many people aren't as comfortable with sharing their wounds with the world as I am. And that's okay. One thing that has helped me heal throughout my life has been to tell my truth. Not to be afraid. Survivors of sexual abuse are victims, and we are all at different levels of healing. I believe it's important to share your jokes, your humor, and your pain with the world. Someone out there will connect. Someone will understand. ----more---- If you enjoyed this episode, please SUBSCRIBE to the podcast. New episodes every Monday and Thursday. Actor, writer, director, producer, and comedian, Michael Hartney, came on the show to entertain us with tales from his experience of landing a role in the original Broadway cast of School of Rock. We talked about him appearing in a scene with Tina Fey on 30 Rock and acting alongside Judith Light, Bette Midler, and Ben Platt in the season two finale of The Politician.  We discussed identity politics in Hollywood, his sketch comedy tv series, Characters Welcome, and his passion for sketch comedy. From his SNL audition to being complimented by Christoper Meloni, there's nothing off-topic.  Follow Michael Hartney on Instagram and Twitter.  Check out Michael's acting reel on YouTube.  Link to Characters Welcome, a twice-monthly live character showcase at UCB Theatre in New York City.    If you enjoyed this episode, please SUBSCRIBE to the podcast.
