Have you ever gone to an appointment only to be disappointed because the other person didn’t show up? Somehow they got their wires crossed and thought it was at a different time or maybe on a different day. But what if you said, “Let’s meet on Tuesday” but when Tuesday arrived, they never showed up for the appointment? And when you called to check on them, they said they were looking forward to seeing you tomorrow at the meeting. Trying to explain to them that today was Tuesday didn’t go anywhere because they were adamant that Tuesday wasn’t for another few days. And to make things even more confusing, they said that although today might be Tuesday on your calendar, it was Sunday on their calendar. How confusing would that be? If you’re familiar with this show then you already know that I’m Messianic. I’m not a Messianic Jew, but a Messianic Gentile. What does that mean? Why? Sometimes you just have to ask that question. Why? Why did this have to happen? Why can’t things work out the way we need them to? Why do we have so much pain and suffering? In Acts 11, we read that the disciples of Yeshua were first called Christians in Antioch. Was this because they wanted to distinguish themselves from the Jews? Was it because they were starting a new religion and needed a new name for themselves? Neither of these reasons is accurate. It doesn’t say that they called THEMSELVES Christians. It says that others called them Christians. Why? Because they had committed themselves to the Christ—the Jewish Messiah. They were his emissaries to the world. But what does it mean to be an emissary? Especially to this man named Yeshua? Let’s explore this idea together in this week’s 5 Minute Torah.

For those of you who have been around a while, you may have heard of Dolly the Sheep—the first mammal to be successfully cloned from an adult somatic cell. After Dolly, other animals were successfully cloned: cats, deer, dogs, horses, mules, oxen, rabbits, and rats. Although the ethical debate over these creations was heated, the most troubling moral dilemma wasn’t over cloning animals, but humans. Should man be permitted to clone another human being? Is there an ethical exemption that would allow for such a thing? Well, actually there is an instance that human cloning might not only be permissible, but preferable. Curious to know more? Who doesn’t love the beauty of a giant rainbow hanging in the sky, especially after a week of nothing but rain? The rain has stopped. The sun is out. The birds are singing once again. And a beautiful rainbow fills the sky to remind us how God is smiling down on us … But is that really what’s going on? Eve was the beloved helpmate whom God gave to Adam. But she listened to the voice of the serpent and fell under his spell, eating from the forbidden fruit. Cain was Adam & Eve’s firstborn son. And he listened to the Enemy’s temptation and murdered his brother, Abel. There is a voice inside all of us that we hear from time to time, luring us into making destructive choices.
