Mishpatim | An Eye for an Eye. Literally???
Why do the vast majority of Yeshua’s followers see the Torah—God’s Law—in a negative light? Maybe it’s due to themes like we have in our current Torah portion. Themes that seem completely unrelatable to lives that are so far removed from our world and worldview. For instance, this week’s reading begins with the laws of slavery. SLAVERY? Are you joking? Why do we need laws about slavery? Is the Torah promoting slavery??? And what’s up with this whole “eye for an eye” thing? Didn’t Yeshua overturn that in the Sermon on the Mount? Well, if you’ve ever been confused by things like this, then you won’t want to miss this week’s 5 Minute Torah. Bo | Radical New Beginnings
Have you ever gone to an appointment only to be disappointed because the other person didn’t show up? Somehow they got their wires crossed and thought it was at a different time or maybe on a different day. But what if you said, “Let’s meet on Tuesday” but when Tuesday arrived, they never showed up for the appointment? And when you called to check on them, they said they were looking forward to seeing you tomorrow at the meeting. Trying to explain to them that today was Tuesday didn’t go anywhere because they were adamant that Tuesday wasn’t for another few days. And to make things even more confusing, they said that although today might be Tuesday on your calendar, it was Sunday on their calendar. How confusing would that be? But in many ways, that’s how we, as followers of Yeshua, live our lives in relationship to God. Not sure what I’m talking about? Then let’s take a look at the Scriptures together in this week’s 5 Minute Torah. Va'era | The Sacred Name Revealed
There are a lot of names for God used in the Bible. But one name stands out above them all? What is it? Well, it’s been hotly debated over the years, especially with those who have only a remedial knowledge of Hebrew and an axe to grind. However, there is an important reason we should know it. And it’s probably not why you think. What is God’s personal name and why is it important that we know it? Let’s find out together in this week’s 5 Minute Torah. Shemot | From Survivors To Thrivers
Let’s be brutally honest. Sometimes life can be unbearable. Sometimes we find ourselves in a situation beyond our control and we can’t see any way of digging ourselves out. How are we supposed to deal with suffering in this life? Why do we have to suffer anyway? Is there a purpose? And if so, what is it? Well, I believe the Torah has a lesson for how to handle every aspect of life, and this week’s Torah portion is no exception. So, let’s see if we can work through this troubling topic together in this week’s 5 Minute Torah. Messiah Unmasked | Mikeitz
If you’re familiar with this show then you already know that I’m Messianic. I’m not a Messianic Jew, but a Messianic Gentile. What does that mean? It means that I believe in the ongoing validity of the Torah and that Yeshua (Jesus) is the long-awaited Messiah of Israel. Messianic Jews are simply Jews who believe these same things. But the vast majority of Jews today and throughout history don’t believe that Yeshua is the Messiah. Most of them don’t even know that he is Jewish? Why is that? Why do they see him as a Gentile and a foreigner? Why can’t they see him as one of their own? The answer may just be in this week’s 5 Minute Torah. Wrestling for a Blessing | Vayishlach
Is there anything in your life worth fighting for? I mean… REALLY fighting for. Most people don’t have a whole lot to fight for—nothing that really has any meaning. Sure, many people will go to extreme lengths for money because they are driven by greed. But there are very few people who would be willing to fight for much of anything else… fighting hard enough to suffer pain for an extended period of time to be a part of something larger than themselves. But what if I told you there is something REAL to fight for and we can learn about it in this week’s Torah portion? Would you be interested? Then let’s take a look at it together in this week’s 5 Minute Torah. Vayeitze | Make Me Like Dust
Dust. It’s everywhere. No matter where you go or where you turn, you’ll find dust. It’s frustrating. But it’s just the way of life and no matter how hard you clean, dust will eventually find its way back into every nook & cranny, every crack & crevice. It’s a never-ending battle that we can all relate to, especially if you have allergies as bad as I do. But yet this week’s Torah portion seems to view dust as a positive force of nature. Why is that? Let’s figure it out together in this week’s 5 Minute Torah. Torah Portion: Toldot | Messianic Commentary | The Power of Prayer
Why? Sometimes you just have to ask that question. Why? Why did this have to happen? Why can’t things work out the way we need them to? Why do we have so much pain and suffering? But maybe the bigger question is “How do we respond in those times?” Do we run away from God, or hold on tighter? Because how we respond can determine what happens next. Sure, it can be difficult to hold on during times of testing, but sometimes God is just waiting on us to make the next move as we’ll soon discover in this week’s 5 Minute Torah. Parashat Vayeira | Cloning From Abraham's DNA
For those of you who have been around a while, you may have heard of Dolly the Sheep—the first mammal to be successfully cloned from an adult somatic cell. After Dolly, other animals were successfully cloned: cats, deer, dogs, horses, mules, oxen, rabbits, and rats. Although the ethical debate over these creations was heated, the most troubling moral dilemma wasn’t over cloning animals, but humans. Should man be permitted to clone another human being? Is there an ethical exemption that would allow for such a thing? Well, actually there is an instance that human cloning might not only be permissible, but preferable. Curious to know more? Let’s take a look at this idea together in this week’s 5 Minute Torah. Heaven… Glory Land. The Celestial City. The Land Beyond… Where there will be no more tears, no more sorrow, no more pain… The eternal reward of those in Christ and the resting place of the saints… Or is it??? Is Heaven our eternal destination? Is our hope to one day walk the streets of gold in this place called Heaven? Or have we misunderstood what the Scriptures teach us about what happens beyond the veil of this life? If you want to know more, then stick around for this week’s 5 Minute Torah.
