Homemade Mac n Cheese Recipe - for Big Kids
You're never too old to enjoy warm, creamy, cheesy mac 'n' cheese   From the America's Family Favorites Best of Home Cooking cookbook   Links* cookbook - https://amzn.to/3IhmGrf dutch oven - https://amzn.to/3uWeXM6   What You'll Need: -6 T butter, divided -1/2 cup minced onion -3 T flour -2 3/4 c cold milk (I said 2 2/3 cup in the video…) -1/4 tsp dried thyme -pinch of nutmeg -pinch of cayenne pepper -salt and pepper to taste -2 heaping cup of dried pasta -8 oz shredded cheddar cheese -4 oz shredded Gruyere (or plain Swiss), cheese -2/3 cup bread crumbs   What You'll Do: 1. melt 4 T butter in medium dutch oven; add minced onion and sauté until onion is translucent (but not brown) 1a. put on a pot of water, to boil, for our pasta 2. stir in flour and cook for 2 minutes; whisk in cold milk; stir until the mixture comes to a simmer and thicken slightly 2a. once your pasta water comes to a boil, salt your water; add pasta and cook one minute less than al dente 3. turn off heat! stir in thyme, nutmeg, and cayenne; add in salt and pepper to taste; stir in shredded cheeses; preheat oven to 350 degree F 4. drain your cooked pasta; add it to your cheese sauce and mix well; if desired, melt the 2 remaining tablespoons of butter and mix in the bread crumbs - sprinkle evenly oven you mac n cheese 5. bake for 40-45 minutes, or until bubbly 6. enjoy!   *DISCLAIMER: links in this description may be affiliate links. From: "Brownies in a Jar" by Jackie Gannaway   Links* Jar: https://amzn.to/46J8L6X   Double Chocolate Brownie Mix in a Jar What you’ll need: -2 cups sugar -3/4 cup chocolate chips -3/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts -1 cup flour -4 - 1" squares of unsweetened baking chocolate   What you’ll do: 1. Layer ingredients in order given in a 1 quart "wide mouth" canning jar. Press firmly in place. 2. Place flour into a thin sandwich baggie to keep it from sifting through the nuts. 3. Cut chocolate squares in half to make 8 pieces 1" × 1/2" Place chocolate pieces on top of flour. 4. Use lid of jar to press chocolate squares firmly into place.   Instructions for your gift recipient: Double Chocolate Brownies 1. Remove chocolate squares from jar. Set aside. 2. Empty mix into large mixing bowl. Empty flour from baggie and discard baggie. Blend. 3. Add: 2 sticks butter or margarine, not diet, melted 4 eggs 2 tsp. vanilla (opt.) 4. Melt chocolate squares in microwave for 30 seconds. Stir well and continue to microwave 10 seconds at a time, stirring until completely melted. (Can melt in a pan over very low heat.) 5. Mix melted chocolate into batter. 6. Pour batter into sprayed 9" × 13" pan. 7. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes. 8. Cool. Cut into squares. Press each layer firmly in place before adding next ingredient.   Instructions for your gift recipient: Chocolate Chip Cookies 1. Empty jar of cookie mix into large mixing bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly blend mix. 2. Add: 1 1/2 sticks butter or margarine, not diet, very soft. 1 egg, slightly beaten 1 tsp. vanilla (opt.) 3. Mix until completely blended. You will need to finish mixing with your hands 4. Shape into balls the size of walnuts. Place 2" apart on sprayed baking sheets. 5. Bake at 350° for 13 to 15 minutes. Cool 10 minutes on baking sheet. Remove to racks to finish cooling. These cookies don't firm up until completely cooled. Press each layer firmly in place. Clean inside of jar with a paper towel after adding cocoa. Place bag of topping ingredients into jar last, pressing in firmly to fit.   Instructions for your gift recipient: Rocky Road Brownies 1. Remove bag of topping ingredients. Set aside. 2. Empty brownie mix into large bowl. Blend. 3. Add: 1 stick butter or margarine,not diet,melted 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla (opt.) 4. Mix until well blended. 5. Pour batter into sprayed 9" × 9" pan. 6. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes. 7. Remove from oven - sprinkle topping ingredients evenly over batter. Bake 15 more minutes. 8. Cool completely. Nestles® White Crunch candy bars, coarsely chopped (press this layer in very hard) -2 cups flour mixed with -1/2 tsp. baking soda and 1/2 tsp. baking powder   What you’ll do: Layer ingredients in order given in a 1 quart "wide mouth" canning jar. Press each layer firmly in place before adding next ingredient     Instructions for your gift recipient: White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies 1. Empty cookie mix into large mixing bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly blend mix. 2. Add: 1 stick butter or margarine, not diet, very soft 1 egg, slightly beaten 1 tsp. vanilla (opt.) 3. Mix until completely blended. You will need to finish mixing with your hands. It will take a while to mix into a smooth dough. 4. Shape into walnut sized balls. Place 2" apart on sprayed baking sheets. 5. Bake at 375° for 12 to 14 minutes until tops are very lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet. Remove cookies to racks to finish cooling. Empty jar of cookie mix into large mixing bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly blend mix. 2. Add: 2 sticks butter or margarine, not diet, very soft. 1 tsp. vanilla (opt.) (These cookies don't require an egg.) 3. Mix until completely blended. You will need to finish mixing with your hands 4. Shape into balls the size of walnuts. Place 2" apart on sprayed baking sheets. Flatten with your frigertips. 5. Bake at 350° for 14 to 18 minutes until edges are very lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet.
