The Voices for Justice podcast focuses on true crime stories involving missing people. In each episode, host Sarah Turney narrates the events surrounding an unsolved disappearance. The podcast examines possible perpetrators and theories about what happened. Turney also discusses the ensuing investigations and where the cases stand now. She has an authentic connection to these stories due to her personal experience.
Turney created Voices for Justice to tell her half sister's story. Alissa Turney went missing in 2001 at age 17. No one has ever found her body. Years later, Turney believes Alissa did not run away. In 2020, police arrested Turney's father, Michael Turney, for second-degree homicide. With no physical evidence presented by 2023, the court dropped the case against him.
There have been other suspects for Alissa's murder, but no further arrests. After her father's arrest, per a legal counselor's advice, Turney stopped discussing the case on the podcast. Instead, she chose to dedicate episodes to other missing persons cases.
The show aims to offer true crime fans more than fascinating stories. Its mission is to create media pressure to solve these cases. Turney never got the closure she needed after her half sister's disappearance. But she hopes her work on this podcast can help others move forward.
Turney also shares stories of solved cases to end each episode on a hopeful note. The Amber Alert helps solve many of these cases. As the sibling of a missing person, Turney reminds listeners of the case behind the alert system. Amber Hagerman, at nine years old, was the victim of a senseless murder. Had the alert existed before, someone might have found the abducted girl in time to save her.
The host hopes this show, like the Amber Alert, will help prevent people from disappearing. New episodes of Voices for Justice are available for streaming on Thursdays.
