In a faraway land where the rain never stops, six-year-old Kyna spends her days playing carelessly with her dog Nana under the protective "umbrella beard" of her father, Din. He let it grow in order to shelter Kyna, who developed a fear of rain on the day she was born. One night, Kyna's life turns upside down when Nana disappears. To find her, Kyna will have to embark on an adventure of self-discovery and she will be bound to face her great fear, the Rain. About the film:  Two lonely outsiders, both stuck hiding from the world, stumble into each other's lives when they need each other most and help encourage the other into choosing to pursue happiness. Brian Mayhew, 29, is a manly construction worker by day and a wanna-be drag queen by night. Tackling his double life alone whilst keeping his big drag secret from the world, he dreams of performing at a local nightclub’s open drag night but believes he isn’t ready. Until he meets Maeve, 21, an angry-at-the-world convenience store employee, who’s stuck in an abusive relationship and uses make-up to hide herself. Together they support each other in choosing happiness. Brian helps Maeve escape her abusive relationship, whilst Maeve helps Brian perfect his look and find the courage to get up on stage in drag. Together they help each other achieve what they believe is the unachievable, and in doing so build an unbreakable friendship. On this week's episode of Filmmaker of the Week we sit down with 17-year-old filmmaker Griffin Loch as he talks about his amazing journey creating 3 feature films before he even turned 18! About Griffin: 17-year-old filmmaker Griffin Loch has achieved what most filmmakers strive for early on. His first feature, Calling the Shots, debuted in 2017, and was written and directed by Loch at just 13. His second feature at. 14 years old, The Adventure of T.P. Man and Flusher was released in 2018 and won Loch Best Director at IFS Film Festival and a nomination for best picture. Loch's third film is A Spark in Nothing, which has won and been placed at 8 film festivals across the globe and screened at Laemmle Theatres.  All three films are now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and Google. Loch has also garnished awards from The Makers Learning Network and The Global Youth Awards Innovation in Education for his open set policy that has allowed students to work alongside industry professionals. Currently, Loch is working on a professional scale haunted house, an upcoming music video, and his fourth feature-length film. About Kellen: California raised Director and Writer, Kellen Gibbs, caused a stir after his collage thesis film, The Moment I Was Alone, won Judges Choice and Best Screenplay in 2015 at the Monarch International Film Festival and Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema. Kellen Gibbs’ first foray into filmmaking began with a stop-motion Lego shorts and sprouted into a passion and profession. Kellen’s work has been screened and nominated in numerous festivals, garnishing over 40 award nominations. About Alexandra: Alexandra Pechman is a writer and director living in Los Angeles. She wrote the psychosexual thriller TENTACLES, produced by Blumhouse TV for Hulu’s INTO THE DARK film series, and has written for the cult anthology series CHANNEL ZERO on Syfy. As a screenwriter, she currently has projects in development with Bad Robot, Hyperobject Industries, and Corporate Witchcraft. As a director, her debut short film, THUMB, premiered at the 2021 Fantasia Film Festival. Her upcoming short film, SLEEP, was named a Spring 2021 Funding Grantee from The Future of Film is Female. Previously as a magazine writer, she published her writing in Vogue, the New York Times, Artforum, Vanity Fair, and many other magazines, and worked for publications such as Artnews, Aperture, and W magazine. She graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University with honors and has been awarded fellowships and prizes for her writing from Oprah Winfrey, the American Academy of Poets, and the Sacatar Institute in Brazil. In this episode of Filmmaker of the Week we sit down with Athena Mandis as she talks about getting her passion film projects made, experiences teaching film, and trying to incorporate her own culture heritage in the stories she wants to tell. About Athena: Athena is an award-winning filmmaker and a lecturer in Film Practice at Queen Mary, University of London. She began her professional career as a dramaturg for the David Glass Ensemble (2000-05). This year I completed 2 high-end short dramas; LOSING GRACE and DAUGHTER - which are currently on the festival circuit. Losing Grace has won 6 awards to date and has just been selected to the Bafta and Oscar qualifying LA Short Film Festival. In 2018 she co-wrote, produced, and directed SOUTHGATE TO BRIGHTON, a comedy short. Her short script FOX was shortlisted for both BLUECAT and SHORESCRIPT writing competitions, this later developed into Losing Grace. She is currently developing 2 features - POLLY and XENOS. Xenos was first developed through MODERN TALES in 2017. It won best screenplay at Cyprus IFF 2018 and was selected to the Torino Development Lab in 2019.
