LITM Episode 81, Kema Weldon with Purposely Made Sweets
We are a Columbia, SC home based business officially established in 2018. THE REASON Creating tasty desserts have been a family tradition for many years. In fact, the angel wings and halo on the logo represents my three dessert angels; two lovely grandmothers who have now gained their wings and my Mom (the living angel). They all had/have a special place in their hearts for cooking & baking and that transferred to me as well. In addition to desserts, they taught me to have faith in everything you believe in, work hard, and God would do the rest. IT LED TO THIS I am from the Lowcountry and moved to Columbia, SC in 2000 to attend the University of South Carolina where I studied and graduated with a degree in Retail Management. After several years in retail, I decided to move into an HR career to fulfill my Iove for helping people (cliche I know 😊). I spent 16+ years as an HR professional and have now transitioned to full time entrepreneurship. Outside of work, I spend the rest of my time with my family/friends and enjoying my passion of treat making & running the business. THE JOURNEY IS JUST BEGINNING I have been dipping treats for family and friends for some time. After continuing to be pushed by a variety of people in my circle, I finally decided to buckle down and turn my passion into a business. Enough about me...now go check out the menu and place an order! Kema Weldon (843) 810-7916 purposelymadesweets@gmail.com. LITM Episode 78, Chris Ash, https://chrisashalgorhythmicmusic.com/
Chris Ash is a local singer songwriter from Columbia, SC. Learning how to play guitar in middle school, he wound up setting the guitar down for years to pursue athletics, and later, college and graduate school. Chris earned his Ph.D. in School Psychology from The University of South Carolina in 2000 and has worked in Education and Mental Health since that time. Also a single father, he remained busy raising his daughter and enjoying watching her grow up. Picking up the guitar again as a young adult, he rediscovered his passion for music and joined an all original local band from the the mid 90's to the early 2000's; recording and performing whenever possible. Chris continued to learn new cover songs while also writing and refining his own creations. He continues this process to this day; writing, learning, recording, and performing both solo and with others. His songs have a rootsy, Americana type feel and range from heartfelt ballads to upbeat rocking numbers. His live performances are known for extended sets in which he weaves in and out of several songs at once as well as having others jump up to sit in with him on the spur of the moment. Blessed with a bluesy, growling vocal tone, Chris is able to meld to many genres and leans towards classic rock, blues, and country. He currently performs locally and continues to write and record original music. Friendly and outgoing, Chris enjoys meeting new musicians and growing into the local music scene. Meredith Dial Dial, Grimm & Rupert Marketing Director 803.828.7661 https://dgr.law/ Member Board of Directors Make-A-Wish® South Carolina A wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a critical illness. This one belief guides us in everything we do at Make-A-Wish. It inspires us to grant life-changing wishes for children going through so much. It compels us to be creative in exceeding the expectations of every wish kid. It drives us to make our donated resources go as far as possible. Most of all, it's the founding principle of our vision to grant the wish of every eligible child. Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved—wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy. https://wish.org/ Dial, Grimm & Rupert is a full-service law firm located in Columbia, South Carolina that provides service to all of the Midlands and beyond in a wide range of legal matters.
