S8 E2 | Funding Humanitarian Aid With Crypto w/Kat (ethevacuations)
On this episode of Rehash, we’re speaking with Kat from ethevacuations, a project that’s helping fund evacuations from Gaza with ETH.Many of you might know Kat from her previous role as Head of Product at Zora, but since December 2023, she has been focusing her efforts on providing humanitarian aid to Palestine through crypto rails. In this episode we talk about some of the unique behaviors and impacts crypto enables, such as increased speed and ease of international remittances, as well as some of the challenges crypto introduces.Kat also shares her thoughts on how crypto can be used for international aid more broadly, how she handles tough conversations with friends and colleagues about the crisis that’s been going on in Palestine since October of last year, and what she wishes the mainstream knew about crypto beyond memecoins and scams.Kat has raised over a quarter million dollars and helped safely evacuate 40 people through ethevacuations so far, and you can support her by donating directly to the wallet address listed on ethevacuations.xyz, by collecting this episode at pods.media/rehash, by tipping on Farcaster or Zora (links below), or by building ethevacuations into a split for an NFT project you’re managing. COLLECT THIS EPISODEhttps://www.rehashweb3.xyz/ FOLLOW USRehash: https://twitter.com/rehashweb3Diana: https://twitter.com/ddwchenKat: https://twitter.com/katalunia030 LINKSEthevacuations: https://ethevacuations.xyz/Farcaster $DEGEN tips: https://warpcast.com/kataluniaZora $ENJOY tips: https://zora.co/collect/zora:0xa4c5b777ed34a924c83a3a8b9e29b484dc1da654/3 TIMESTAMPS0:00 Intro2:05 Kat’s background5:25 Why fundraise with crypto?8:03 Would Kat’s work have been possible without crypto?8:31 Challenges around off ramping with crypto9:40 Converting crypto to fiat for humanitarian aid10:24 How much money has Kat raised through ethevacuations?12:39 Reaction from crypto community to support humanitarian aid13:24 Kat’s recommendations for handling sensitive conversations about Palestine21:35 Is it easier to send crypto or fiat overseas?22:55 Good use cases for crypto in international humanitarian aid25:20 What Kat wished the mainstream knew about crypto and the positive impact it can have on the world27:20 How can people support Kat’s work?29:44 Follow Kat DISCLAIMER: The information in this video is the opinion of the speaker(s) only and is for informational purposes only. S8 E1 | Multiparty Ops Onchain w/Jonah Erlich (Den)
On this episode of Rehash, we’re speaking with Jonah Erlich about what a multisignature wallet is, how it’s different from MPC (multiparty computation), best security practices for managing a multisig, and how to be a good multisig signer.Jonah experienced many of the common challenges multisig signers face when he was operating as a core team member of ConstitutionDAO back in late 2022, which is what inspired him to build Den, a tool that helps teams operate more quickly, safely, and effectively onchain through things like human readable descriptions, notifications, recurring transactions, and much more which Jonah shares more about in this episode. We wrap up with a few “can you nots” where we share some of our biggest pet peeves about things multisig signers or people operating in crypto in general like to do, and Jonah overdelivers on his campaign promise to tell an embarrassing childhood story about Diana by telling not one but two embarrassing childhood stories about her. COLLECT THIS EPISODEhttps://www.rehashweb3.xyz/ FOLLOW USRehash: https://twitter.com/rehashweb3Diana: https://twitter.com/ddwchenJonah: https://twitter.com/JierlichDen: https://twitter.com/onchainden TIMESTAMPS0:00 Intro3:10 How Jonah campaigned for his spot on Rehash6:17 What is a multisgnature wallet?10:42 Multisig vs MPC14:40 How to be a good multisig signer and best practices29:55 What is Den?32:44 How Den makes multisig ops easier38:31 How does Den make money?39:38 How does the Den team ship so fast?44:50 What Jonah would improve about the Safe ecosystem47:38 Long term vision for Den49:55 Can You Not54:48 Jonah’s embarrassing story about Diana59:57 Follow Jonah DISCLAIMER: The information in this video is the opinion of the speaker(s) only and is for informational purposes only. [BONUS] LIVE FROM DENVER: L2 WARS
On our final special bonus episode of Rehash recorded live in Denver on March 1, 2024, we’re holding our first ever debate between three major L2 chains: Polygon, Arbitrum, and Optimism. The representatives from each chain are Hudson Jameson (Polygon), Disruption Joe (Arbitrum), and Binji (Optimism). Each representative gives opening and closing statements about why the layer 2 chain they’re working on is the best one, shares some popular use cases for projects building on their chain, and some even attack other chains in an attempt to win the L2 wars. This debate is all in good fun, as we all believe in a multichain future and are rooting for the success of all three chains, but we do wrap up the episode by asking our live studio audience to vote on which chain they’re most bullish on after hearing the debates. At the end of the day, we all want each other to win, and we all want Ethereum to win. COLLECT THIS EPISODEhttps://www.rehashweb3.xyz/ FOLLOW USRehash: https://twitter.com/rehashweb3Diana: https://twitter.com/ddwchenHudson: https://twitter.com/hudsonjamesonJoe: https://twitter.com/DisruptionJoeBinji: https://twitter.com/binji_x LINKSPolygon: https://polygon.technology/Arbitrum: https://arbitrum.foundation/Optimism: https://optimism.io/ TIMESTAMPS0:00 Intro4:02 Arbitrum opening statement6:34 Polygon opening statement8:57 Optimism opening statement12:11 Optimism use cases14:42 Polygon use cases18:54 Arbitrum use cases22:20 Polygon closing statement25:30 Optimism closing statement29:26 Arbitrum closing statement32:49 Which L2 is the winner?33:37 Follow Hudson, Joe, and Binji DISCLAIMER: The information in this video is the opinion of the speaker(s) only and is for informational purposes only. S7 E10 | Unpacking Solana and DeFi Education w/Caitlin Cook
On this episode of Rehash, we’re speaking with Caitlin Cook, Head of Communications and Marketing at Hxro Labs, a distributed liquidity layer for derivatives trading and betting on Solana.Caitlin is the first guest from the Solana ecosystem that we’ve had on the podcast, so we had to take advantage of this time to ask her all the questions about Solana. Caitlin talks about some trends she’s seeing on Solana that are unique to the ecosystem, why she believes Solana has grown so much, and what role she sees Solana playing in our multichain world moving forward.Prior to joining Hxro Labs, where she works now, Caitlin was a DeFi educator for about 18 months, primarily educating TradFi institutions about DeFi but also creating educational content for the general public as well, so we chatted about her experiences with that and what she found to be the most convincing narratives for both the general public as well as TradFi institutions to pique their curiosity about DeFi and begin to onboard them. Finally, Caitlin shared some great insights on the best ways to onboard the next billion users to crypto. COLLECT THIS EPISODEhttps://www.rehashweb3.xyz/ FOLLOW USRehash: https://twitter.com/rehashweb3Diana: https://twitter.com/ddwchenCaitlin: https://twitter.com/DeadCaitBounceHxro: https://twitter.com/HxroNetwork LINKSXP Ticket: https://xp.xyz/Moonwalk: https://moonwalk.fit/Hxro Network: https://hxro.com/Solana: https://solana.com/ TIMESTAMPS0:00 Intro4:16 Solana overview12:11 Best projects being built on Solana23:27 Solana’s role in the multichain world27:15 Vibes/culture in Solana30:06 Why has Solana seen so much growth lately?31:39 DeFi education for consumers43:33 DeFi education for institutions51:03 Caitlin’s thoughts on memecoins54:48 Caitlin’s price predictions for Bitcoin/Ethereum/Solana ATH57:32 Follow Caitlin DISCLAIMER: The information in this video is the opinion of the speaker(s) only and is for informational purposes only. You’ll hear us mention his new product as Quests in this episode, but since we recorded this episode, the product has actually been renamed to Forage and you can find it at forage.xyz.In this highly conversational episode, Richie and I talk through traditional models of distribution in media that have failed us and left a bad taste in our mouth and propose new models of onchain distribution that break down a lot of the assumptions we’ve made about concepts like advertising and ownership. COLLECT THIS EPISODEhttps://www.rehashweb3.xyz/ FOLLOW USRehash: https://twitter.com/rehashweb3Diana: https://twitter.com/ddwchenRichie: https://twitter.com/richiebonillaForage: https://twitter.com/foragexyz_ TIMESTAMPS0:00 Intro3:17 Problems with traditional distribution models9:04 How do we introduce new human behaviors?23:39 What is onchain culture?34:51 Onchain distribution and growth43:00 What is Forage? On this episode of Rehash, we’re speaking with Irina Panovich (aka aiio) about non-linear models for cultural production, the importance of physicality and play when exploring emerging tech, and the importance of experimentation in crypto. For the last five years, aiio has been experimenting with an arts and tech collective in Copenhagen called 320 Colab, testing out various theses relating to funding for artists and creatives. This is her first time sharing publicly on a podcast about her experiences and learnings from that experiment. We talk a lot in this episode about experimenting in crypto, especially with community and culture, and aiio shares some key learnings and advice for building a community around foundational values and using human centered design. She also gives us a sneak peek into a new project she’s working on right now that will be launching soon - a new podcast with UFO that she’ll be using to experiment with new forms and models for podcasting. COLLECT THIS EPISODEhttps://www.rehashweb3.xyz/ FOLLOW USRehash: https://twitter.com/rehashweb3Diana: https://twitter.com/ddwchenaiio: https://twitter.com/cattfutur LINKSLiminal State: https://liminalstate.bandcamp.com/UFO Ep 47: https://ufo.mirror.xyz/Pifu_UYAW7nvMVkCmLY7y84rzF9er_cuqFaRzvf6DTIAdditional reading: Are We Human? S7 E6 | Dissecting Crypto Infrastructure w/Eshita
On this episode of Rehash, we’re speaking with Eshita, Head of Strategy at Astria, about the current state of crypto infra, why developer tooling is lagging, and we get to the bottom of what shared sequencers are. After spending a couple of years researching the crypto ecosystem, Eshita started to feel like a bystander and wanted to become more of an active participant in the ecosystem, so she recently joined Astria to help build out their shared sequencer network.Astria allows many rollups to share a single decentralized network of sequencers, which increases censorship resistance and enables faster block confirmations, all while allowing each rollup to maintain their own sovereignty. We then zoom out a bit and look at crypto infrastructure as a whole, and Eshita shares what she believes to be some of the most important pieces in the infra space right now as well as areas where she hopes to see more development and innovation moving forward. COLLECT THIS EPISODEhttps://www.rehashweb3.xyz/ FOLLOW USRehash: https://twitter.com/rehashweb3Diana: https://twitter.com/ddwchenEshita: https://twitter.com/eshitaAstria: https://twitter.com/astriaorg LINKSThe Myth of the Infrastructure Phase (USV): https://www.usv.com/writing/2018/10/the-myth-of-the-infrastructure-phase/  TIMESTAMPS0:00 Intro3:03 How Eshita got into crypto6:33 From researcher to operator7:30 What are shared sequencers?19:46 Current state of crypto infra28:28 What are modular blockchains, and what is Celestia?35:20 Will infra still be the focus of the next cycle?39:06 Eshita’s bullish predictions for ETH/BTC ATH40:41 Follow Eshita DISCLAIMER: The information in this video is the opinion of the speaker(s) only and is for informational purposes only. S7 E5 | Unlocking Human Potential w/Julia Lipton
On this episode of Rehash, we’re speaking with Julia Lipton, Founder and General Partner at Awesome People Ventures, about unlocking latent potential in humans, finding product market fit in web3 communities, and the most important things happening in the global landscape right now.In many ways it’s surprising that it took us until Season 7 to bring Julia on the podcast because she has actually played a part in Rehash from Day 0 as you’ll hear us talk about at the beginning of this episode. Julia is an investor, connector of people, and all around one of the kindest and most generous humans I’ve encountered in this space. In this episode we start out by talking about DAO Masters, a project she crowdfunded through Mirror that ended up winding down last summer, and what she learned about the give-get equation through her experience there. She wrote a really thoughtful Twitter thread about the give-get equation that I’ve linked in the show notes and would encourage you all to check out, especially if you’re someone working in or adjacent to the DAO ecosystem. We then get into a discussion around why there’s so much latent and unused human talent floating around in the corporate world and what people have been doing about it, such as flocking to freelance and contract work, or even to DAOs. Obviously DAOs aren’t perfect and are far from it, but Julia shares some strategies she thinks could be implemented for DAOs to be more effective in their operations while maintaining the same draw they have for people today. Finally, we talk about what Julia is most focused on in the global landscape with crypto and nintynick chimes in with a question about progressive decentralization. COLLECT THIS EPISODEhttps://www.rehashweb3.xyz/ FOLLOW USRehash: https://twitter.com/rehashweb3Diana: https://twitter.com/ddwchenJulia: https://twitter.com/JuliaLiptonAwesome People Ventures: https://twitter.com/awesomepeoplehq LINKSGive/get equation TIMESTAMPS0:00 Intro3:10 Julia’s involvement with Rehash from Day 04:34 Why DAO Masters shut down10:29 Communities as products17:04 Why human talent is so underutilized in corporate world22:25 What v2 of DAOs might look like26:46 Awesome People Ventures and Awesome People Talent31:31 Global landscape for freelancers32:23 Development of global currencies37:15 Types of projects Julia is focused on in 202439:45 Progressive decentralization42:25 BTC/ETH ATH 202443:17 Follow Julia DISCLAIMER: The information in this video is the opinion of the speaker(s) only and is for informational purposes only. She came into this episode loaded with analogies that make complex topics like staking and data availability and seemingly complex projects like Eigenlayer easily understandable to a 10 year old.On a more personal note, she shares how she found her ikigai with her work at Eigenlayer now and her best advice for others to find their ikigai. S6 E9 | Crypto-Enabled Livestreaming w/Ravi Bakhai

S6 E9 | Crypto-Enabled Livestreaming w/Ravi Bakhai
On this episode of Rehash, we’re speaking with Ravi Bakhai, founder of Hypeshot, about why livestreaming is a compelling medium across so many industries, what a crypto-enabled live streaming platform unlocks for creators, and future livestreaming trends we can expect to see in the next five years. Even though livestreaming has technically been around since the early 1990s, with the very first livestream taking place in 1993 when a few employees from Xerox PARC in California decided to livestream their buddies’ band performance, livestreaming didn’t really pick up steam until the late 2000s or early 2010s when YouTube launched livestreaming and Twitch was born. Since then, livestreaming has seen a slow but steady growth, primarily in niche communities. More recently, however, livestreaming has been seeping into a wider array of industries and creator types. Now we’re not just seeing gamers streaming on Twitch, but we’re also seeing artists, musicians, and other types of creators in the streaming scene. On the opposite end of that spectrum, we’re seeing big corporations building livestreaming into their corporate marketing and communications strategies as well.Ravi also shares the latest on Hypeshot, the crypto-enabled live streaming platform he’s building, as well as how some of his favorite streamers have been using the crypto elements there. Finally, we riff on some serious and some not so serious use cases we’d like to see on Hypeshot in the future. COLLECT THIS EPISODEhttps://www.rehashweb3.xyz/ FOLLOW USRehash: https://twitter.com/rehashweb3Diana: https://twitter.com/ddwchenRavi: https://twitter.com/ravibakhaiHypeshot: https://twitter.com/HypeshotHQ LINKS“Life is Non-fungible” Ted Talk (Roham Gharegozlou): https://youtu.be/u894J50AqOs?si=9cHa9r15HVK6eZvA TIMESTAMPS0:00 Intro2:29 Origin story of Hypeshot6:25 Free to consume, valuable to own7:33 History of livestreaming13:35 Monetizing from livestreaming14:35 What crypto unlocks for livestreaming18:11 Hypeshot vs Unlonely vs Livepeer20:21 Distribution in web3 media23:10 Ravi’s favorite Hypeshot streamers23:42 New use cases for crypto-enabled livestreaming27:28 Future of web3 livestreaming32:49 Who Ravi wants to hear on the podcast33:39 How Ravi crypto pills his friends and family36:35 Follow Ravi DISCLAIMER: The information in this video is the opinion of the speaker(s) only and is for informational purposes only.
