Our Editor's Take

The God Awful Movies podcast reviews Christian films and makes fun of them without shame. Eli Bosnick, Heath Enwright, and Noah Lugeons are three atheists. They don't believe in God, the afterlife, repentance, or sin. That makes their decision to watch religious cinema that much more entertaining. The hosts view each feature with the eyes of the harshest critics. They point out ridiculous plot lines and degrade actors for phony performances. Most of all, Bosnick, Enwright, and Lugeons talk about the harmful messaging they perceive in this media. But they keep conversations light and enjoyable, with plenty of laughs.

The three hosts have made a name for themselves in podcasting. Enwright and Lugeons host The Skepticrat together. It's a show that talks about politics from the center's perspective.

The pair began collaborating with Bosnick on the podcast The Scathing Atheist. The three discuss how religion tries to invade the secular world and why they think it's silly. God Awful Movies continues that topic, focusing on cinema and TV representations.

On God Awful Movies, the hosts talk about films that many people haven't heard about. For instance, they discuss Unconditional. It tells the story of a white woman searching for her husband's killer. All she knows about the murderer is that he's Black, making for quite a racist film. In another podcast episode, the hosts examine the drama Risen. It follows a Roman soldier as he searches for Jesu'ss body after his resurrection. There are also comedies, thrillers, and postapocalyptic features.

On occasion, Bosnick, Enwright, and Lugeons veer into genres outside of religion. They discuss conspiracy theories, anti-vaxxers, anti-trans propaganda, and more. The podcast hosts are not scared to voice their genuine opinions and ridicule the absurdity of these creations. Their goal is to expose these films for what they are while having fun along the way.
