God Almighty--El Shaddai

God Almighty--El Shaddai
God Almighty“I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty...”EXODUS 6:3I am reminded today that we love and serve an almighty and all pow- erful God. Trust Him today!I am truly proud of you! Each day you are choosing to embrace the un- known and step into a challenge to draw closer to Him. Each day there is a new possibility! Each day there is a new experience! And each day you choose to seek Him. I am truly proud of you!I really enjoy looking at the names of God. A lot of God’s names are a combination of the word El (a generic term for God) and another word that goes into a deeper and more specific facet of who He is. That’s what we have here as the Lord tells Moses that He appeared to Abra- ham, Isaac, and Jacob as God Almighty, or literally, El-Shaddai.The word El speaks for itself. We know that it’s a general name identi- fying God. It was actually used in the Bible over 7000 times, to define not only God, but judges, leaders, etc. The word EL is not the most im- portant part of the name. It signifies importance, but what follows EL gives us the depth and understanding of God. Now let’s take a closer look at its companion word, Shaddai. What does it mean, exactly? Two schools of thought emerge when it comes to the origin of this word. The first thought is that it comes from a combination of the Hebrew word that means “who,” and another Hebrew word that means “enough.” Put the two together and you get “she-day” (or Shaddai), which communicates the idea of “one who is enough” or “He who is all sufficient.”The second school of thought says Shaddai comes from the word sadu, which literally means “mountain.” This is an interesting theory because in ancient times mountains were often used as the ultimate ex- ample of something that was powerful and permanent. Think about it: There was nothing in their physical world greater than the mountains, and so we can see the connection between their greatness and God’s greatness.Either way, the name El-Shaddai represents God’s all-powerfulness. He is the God who is always enough for every occasion. He is the God whose might is reflected by the mountains. He is the God who is above all and who outlasts all. He is God Almighty, El-Shaddai. And those who are His—no matter how weak or small they may be—can take refuge and comfort in His almighty arms.Today, we lose sight of that fact. We are so busy that we don’t embrace the PAUSE in each day. We don’t allow ourselves the opportunity to see the strength and power of God, because we are so busy with our schedules and all that we think we need to get done. We are tired, worn, hurting, and yet we continue to move on each day, trying to finish the schedule that we create for ourselves. So, just stop and PAUSE. Take a break and reflect on who God is. Let your mind rest. Let your body rest. Let your emotions rest. God is El-Shaddai—the Almighty God—He can handle whatever you are going through.1 Peter 5:7 says, “cast all your anxiety on Him for He cares for you.” You are loved my friend! God has a plan for you and will make sure itis worked out! Trust Him!
Keep Me in the Moment

Keep Me in the Moment
Keep Me in the Moment“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert”.ISAIAH 43:18-19Too often, we are tempted to allow the burdens of this world to con- sume us with stress and doubt, that eventually lead to fear. We are very quick to forget all of the amazing things that have happened in our life, and instead focus on all of the negativity that surrounds us. How many of us remember that he was thrown in jail because he preached the Gospel of Christ boldly, and when told that he could not share the Gospel anymore, responded with a direct and honest answer:“Then they called them in again and commanded them notto speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! 20 As for us, we cannot help speak- ing about what we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:18-20)When we fixate on the negative, we miss out on the positive. When I was outside this morning, I happened to be down by the river. From a negative standpoint, I could have focused on the fact that it was cloudy. The sun wasn’t shining, and it was a little chilly. All of those traits could have made my time terrible. But instead, I chose to focus on the positive. I saw a mama duck with her babies swimming in the canal. I saw birds flying over the river. I saw people smiling as they exercised. I saw squirrels chasing each other, and dogs running after a stick. The best part was that I was able to spend some time with amaz- ing people on a Facebook Live Bible Study. My point is that we tend to hang out in negativity. Let’s change that up a little bit. Let’s focus on the positive. And let’s do that right now. The Bible tells us in Joshua to “choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15The context of that passage is a great one for us to examine. The people of God were being reminded by Joshua that it was God who brought them out of Egypt. It was God who delivered all of the ene- mies that they encountered into their hands as they defeated them. It was God who gave them a land with cities that they did not build, but could now dwell in, and vineyards that they did not plant but could benefit from. They now had a choice. They could worship the false gods of before, or embrace the true God. Joshua tells them that he will worship God alone. We need to examine the same truths in our own lives. It is God who has blessed us thus far. It is God who has loved us thus far. It is God who has given to us when we are in need thus far. When we embrace who God is and what He is doing right now, we are no longer con- sumed by fear because we aren’t looking into the future, wondering how everything will work out in our lives. Instead, we are embracing the fact that God has us right now. He is there to guide and protect us in this moment. Isaiah 41:10 states, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.I will strengthen you and help you;I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. The prophet Isaiah is reminding the people that God will bring about restoration. He will bring strength and help when it is needed. He will uphold us! There is not anything in this world that can separate us from God!

21 Days of Prayer and Fasting--Day #18
DAY 18 THOSE SUFFERING UNDER POVERTY  How does this happen? BLESSING “THE LEAST OF THESE” TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READING Then the King will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.” Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” —Matt. 25:34-40 (ESV) PRAYER + REFLECTION 1. Pray for the 256 million people facing food insecurity (double the amount from 2019), that they will eat daily and receive care. 2. Lift up the estimated 736 million people living below global poverty standards, that food, clean water, shelter and jobs will be accessible to them. 3. Ask the Lord to grant wisdom, resources and compassion to the ministries, agencies and governments working to alleviate and end global poverty.4. Pray that the followers of Jesus Christ would always embrace, advocate and care for the global poor.
Delight Yourself in the Lord

Delight Yourself in the Lord
Delight“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”PSALM 1:2WOW! This is amazing! We are literally four weeks into this chal- lenge. You are doing an absolutely amazing job! I am so proud of you! Some of the stories that you all have been sharing have been so awe- some to read! You are looking at each day as an opportunity to Dwell in Possibility! And God is WORKING!Today, we are focusing on the word “Delight”. What does that mean? Delight means to “please (someone) greatly”.The word is used 110 times in scripture, with most of those occurring in the Old Testament. A very similar word, “Please”, occurs 350 times in scripture, with nearly 75% of those occurring in the New Testament. There is a deep connection with delighting in God and being pleasing to Him.When we think of the word delight—this passage always tends to pop up at the top of the list—Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desiresof your heart.PSALM 37:4There are those who might use this verse as a way to claim the promise that if God is our focus, then we can get whatever material object that we want, but that isn’t the biblical reality being shared in that passage at all.Dwell In Possibility: Experience Hope in Times of Distress95So, what does it mean when David says that we are to delight in the Lord? This Psalm is written as a reminder to trust in all circumstances. David wants anyone who reads those words or sings those lyrics to rest in the reality that God will provide for every single need that they have. As we remember those truths, we bring glory to His name and are pleasing in His sight. If we are seeking Him out, we will experience delight in Him, and will also be a delight to Him.As we draw closer to Him, or as we focus on Him, He becomes all that we want. He becomes our desire. He becomes our purpose, and we want more of the intimacy of experiencing Him. There is a shift of focus from ourselves, to Him.
