Destigmatizing Mental Health: Breaking Down Suicide and Its Impact on Men (with Tanish)
“The suicide rate for men is 4 times higher than that of women.” “Between the ages of 10 and 24, suicide is the third leading cause of death.” & “Men are more likely to use lethal force.” are just a few of the statistics Tanish and Maddie break down in this episode.  Tanish is a 17 year old Indian-American who enjoys cooking, swimming, and staying indoors to escape the AZ heat. After seeing himself and his friends struggle with mental health, he started the podcast Stopping Suicide Step by Step. Tanish has taken a strong interest in the wellbeing of our brain and what can be done to improve our lives.  In this episode Tanish and Maddie dive into what has made mental health so stigmatized and the importance of discussing that stigma. Some reasons why men have a higher suicide rate than women. How suicide is especially stigmatized in the Indian culture. As well as, working with parents who are skeptical of mental health.  Important Notice: This is not advice shared by a licensed psychiatrist or therapist. It is simply two teens discussing mental health. If you are struggling with suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety, etc. seek the help of someone qualified.  Time Stamps: (2:0) - What impacts our mental health?
