State of the Eye: A Call for Awareness and Advocacy I S3E1
As the famous quote goes, “The eyes are the window to the soul,” and eye health education can help us keep our windows clear and bright. However, not everyone has equal access to this since there is a gap between the number of eye health professionals and the population they serve, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Hence, the lack of representation in the eye health field encourages us to do more to ensure that the professionals who serve our communities mirror the diversity within them. To bridge this gap, mentorship and education must play a central role, guiding young minds towards a future where they see themselves represented in the eye health profession. In this episode, Dr. Juliette and Karl will retrace the amazing path of the Visionuri Podcast from the early days of Season One to the vibrant Season Three and share the evolution of their mission to empower individuals through eye health education. The Impact of Reading Habits on Vision Development | VISIONURI Podcast I S1E4
Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary. It has been said that reading is the gateway skill that makes all other learning possible. However, we shouldn’t ignore the possible impacts on our eye health when reading. Parents must always look after their kids as they use electronic devices, educating them about proper sleep hygiene and providing them with nutritious foods that will prevent them from experiencing dreadful eye symptoms as they develop .  In this episode, Juliette and Karl will share their exhilarating experience at AfroPunk Brooklyn, wherein a community of people who reject societal norms come together to celebrate Blackness and embrace their true selves, no matter what anyone else thinks. With their second Nuri Letter, they dive into the intriguing topic of children's eye health, discussing the effects of reading in the dark and the impact of modern technology on young eyes. They explore a listener's story about reading under the covers using a toy light and explore the potential consequences on vision development. When Life Gives You Lemons... | VISIONURI Podcast | S1E3
When life gives you lemons, do NOT use them as eye drops. Our eyes are delicate. They require proper care and protection from harmful elements. The importance of eye protection often goes unnoticed until an incident occurs. Therefore, we must always prioritize eye health by seeking regular check-ups from reliable eye specialists and wearing protective eyewear. When faced with an eye injury in a place when we can’t seek immediate attention from an eye physician, we must allow our body to heal naturally instead of resorting to substances that could harm our eyes in the future. "Let us treat them like precious jewels and cherish the sights they give us every day." In this episode, Dr. Juliette and Karl will share a Nuri Letter from a listener who had a terrible experience of someone putting lemon drops on his eyes as first aid for an eye injury. They speak on the delicate nature of the eyes and how we can treat them with care when faced with an accident that requires proper cure and medication. Join the discussion on how to help ourselves protect our eyes to prevent unnecessary incidents that will significantly affect our vision.   Topics Covered:(00:00:00) Introduction(00:01:40) The Black Excellence Marketplace(00:03:18) Eyewear for every mood(00:04:21) Who's wearing what?(00:09:40) A word from our sponsor.(00:10:55) Nuri Letter (00:12:03) Can lemon juice be applied as an eye treatment? (00:20:30) Protective eyewear for athletes (00:22:32) Eye protection is often disregarded until something terrible happens.(00:23:09) Maintain vigilance to prevent avoidable injuries.(00:26:18) Never put lemon in your eye for any reason.(00:27:15) Eye Joke Segment(00:28:45) Share your eye health journey!(00:29:37) Connect with us on social media and send your feedback. (00:30:11) Outro(00:30:31) Connect with us on social media and send your feedback. Connect with Karl Florestal:https://www.instagram.com/_karlflo/https://www.linkedin.com/in/karl-florestal-m-a-8317971a9/ Connect with Dr. Juliette Nelson: https://linktr.ee/JulietteNuriNelsonConnect with NURILENS:Website: https://nurilens.co/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nurilensInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/nurilens/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@nurilensTwitter: https://twitter.com/nurilensYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@visionuri/Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0YqgkEW7zqvumTiO8zxZunAbout NURILENSNURILENS was founded by CEO Dr. Juliette Nelson as a fusion of her love for eyewear and her lifelong appreciation for deep-rooted culture and timeless natural materials. Understanding Our Behavior Toward Our Eyeglasses | VISIONURI Podcast | S1E2
Have you ever been curious about the factors that influence how well we see through our eyeglasses? Our bodies undergo various changes as we gracefully age, and our eyes are no exception to this natural change. If we only observe how people use their eyeglasses, how does it help them? For instance, when they hold small objects further away for better visibility, we see them putting chains on their glasses to keep them around their necks instead of bringing them closer. Hence, we must always pay attention to our eye health and the significance of choosing the eyewear that perfectly fits our unique eye conditions. We must also be heedful of how we treat our eyes to maintain and preserve our optimal vision. In this episode, Dr. Juliette and Karl shed light on how crucial it is to have your eyes checked and receive the correct prescription so you can take proper care of your eyes. They delve into some of the behaviors we often see people do with their eyeglasses that we never understood but significantly influence our ability to see clearly. Additionally, they reminisce on their experience meeting NURILENS customers in person as they pop for the culture. Join the discussion on how aging affects the eye's natural lens and the factors we need to consider while selecting eyeglasses that will help us focus on maintaining good eye health.Topics Covered:(00:00:00) Introduction(00:00:15) Welcoming our podcast listeners (00:02:07) Popping up for the culture(00:03:09) NURILENS in the media(00:05:10) How customers react with their Nurilens frames on(00:08:48) Who's Wearing What?(00:15:48) A word from our sponsor(00:17:48) Why people tend to hold small objects further away instead of bringing them closer for better visibility(00:20:33) The Dual Functionality of Vision Correction(00:24:51) Why people put chains on their eyeglasses(00:34:41) Eye Joke Segment(00:37:06) Share your eye health journey!(00:37:53) Connect with us on social media platforms and send your feedback.Connect with Karl Florestal:https://www.instagram.com/_karlflo/https://www.linkedin.com/in/karl-florestal-m-a-8317971a9/Connect with Dr. Juliette Nelson: https://linktr.ee/JulietteNuriNelsonConnect with NURILENS:Website: https://nurilens.co/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nurilensInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/nurilens/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@nurilensTwitter: https://twitter.com/nurilensYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@visionuri/Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0YqgkEW7zqvumTiO8zxZunAbout NURILENSNURILENS was founded by CEO Dr. Juliette Nelson as a fusion of her love for eyewear and her lifelong appreciation for deep-rooted culture and timeless natural materials.
