Our Editor's Take

The topic of civil war in the US has come up a lot over the last several years. After the Revolution is a fiction audiobook podcast exploring how that scenario might play out were it to occur.

This podcast is a serialized version of the novel by Robert Evans. He previously published a non-fiction book in 2016. A Brief History of Vice: How Bad Behavior Built Civilization, his book, connects violence and society. He was also once a writer and editor for the humor website Cracked.

After the Revolution focuses on three different characters. Manny is a local hustler and problem solver who leads journalists into the warzone for a fee. Sasha is a young freedom fighter looking to join a group she has only heard rumors of, the Heavenly Kingdom. The third character, Roland, is an amnesiac soldier with a sad past and a lot of military hardware.

Together, these characters find themselves on an intertwined path. Struggling to survive the chaos around them, they rely on one another. Even though they do not always like each other, a sense of family begins to build throughout the story.

After the Revolution has a clear structure. Each chapter of the book is its own podcast episode. This makes it much easier to listen to for those who have a limited amount of time. A full version of the audiobook is available, as well as a single episode. After the Revolution is exciting and harrowing, but mostly surprisingly human. Its mission is to tell a story about what people have in common when it seems they have nothing to bind them.
