Our Editor's Take

Epic Gardening: Daily Growing Tips and Advice is a gardening podcast. Its companion website, Epic Gardening, aims to teach ten million people how to grow plants. Any gardener knows that there is always something to learn about plants. One garden's specific conditions will call for certain techniques and strategies. Those techniques and strategies might not work in different soil or weather conditions. It can be easy to make mistakes. Having the advice of an expert is an invaluable asset.

Kevin Espiritu is the host of Epic Gardening Daily Growing Tips and Advice. He is also the founder and CEO of Epic Gardening, an online resource and gardening store. Kevin has written two books on gardening and has an impressive following online. One might call him a gardening influencer. He is a passionate advocate of gardening as a means to sustainability. The topics he chooses for the podcast reflect this.

Epic Gardening Daily Growing Tips and Advice distinguishes itself from other gardening podcasts. Its specialty is focusing on unusual topics. The topics answer questions an urban homesteader with a small budget might ask. Does growing one's own vegetables make economic sense? How best to work around less-than-ideal conditions, such as excessive shade? Which plants attract pollinators? How to maintain a compost bin without attracting pests in an urban environment?

Kevin has lots of guests on the podcast. Youngsang Cho shares details on JADAM, the latest gardening method out of South Korea. Washington State-based master gardener Susan Mulvihill troubleshoots common issues. Author Nicole Johnsey Burke wants everyone to have a kitchen garden. Nikki Husted has advice for listeners who want to keep chickens.

Episodes of Epic Gardening Daily Growing Tips and Advice are 15 minutes long. The podcast is full of useful information, making it an excellent resource for gardeners of any level. New episodes release every weekday.

Growing Dahlias From Seed

Growing Dahlias From Seed
Growing dahlias from seed is very different from cultivating them in their tuber stage. The difference lies mainly in that they produce a whole new variety, genetically. This doesn’t dampen their ability to feed the bees, and attract pollinators, but it does shorten their vase life. Epic Gardening Shop Homepage: https://growepic.co/3xy27o9Botanical Interests Shop Homepage: https://growepic.co/43VJVkCBook Collection Page:  https://growepic.co/4aKvPVyEG Homesteading Book: https://growepic.co/43ZGdGrLearn More:How to plant, grow, and care for dinnerplate dahliasConnect With Jennifer Gulizia:Jennifer Gulizia, the flower farmer behind The Flowering Farmhouse, is deeply rooted in the small farming town of Hood River, Oregon. How We’re Connected to The Plants We Evolved With

How Did We Learn To Eat Beans
If you have ever wondered how humans learned what wild foods were edible, you’re not alone! It took a lot of involved, sustained effort by our ancestors, who gnawed on plants for eight to ten hours per day. The story of how we consumed beans is one fascinating example of how we learned to cook foods. Epic Gardening Shop Homepage:  https://growepic.co/4aA3wc5Botanical Interests Shop Homepage: https://growepic.co/3vxuKkNBook Collection Page: https://growepic.co/3vxrfuAEGHomesteading Book:  https://growepic.co/3vxiOzpLearn More:5 Ancient Gardening Methods That Work in the Modern GardenConnect With Margot Kelley:Margot Kelley is a vegetable gardener of 20+ years based in Maine and the author of A Gardener at the End of the World, a memoir about gardens, seeds, and viruses written during the pandemic. When Melons Got Sweet
Did you know that melons weren’t the lucious sweet fruit we adore today? The melons of medieval times were more like gherkins. It wasn’t until growers cultivated melons and cross-bred them enough that they ripened to sweetness.
