Do you want a job change or a career change? (Ep 170)
When considering a change in your professional life, it's important to understand the difference between a job change and a career change. While they may seem similar, they involve different levels of commitment and require different approaches. On the one hand, a career change can be a big decision, but with the proper research, planning, and mindset, you can find a new path that brings you fulfillment and success. You need to know your leadership style (Ep 167)
Redefining your leadership style post-pandemic is crucial for career success. In this episode, we discuss the vital differences between leaders and why some succeed at developing a high-performing culture and others don't. In the mid-1990s, Gary was introduced to Servant Leadership and the theory and practice of Organisational Learning. These theories are constantly evolving and have spawned Authentic Leadership and Inclusive Leadership. The theoretical foundation of these bodies of knowledge has continued to influence Gary in everything he does. Most importantly, Gary believes in closing the gap between theory and practice, the space in which he has chosen to work. He focuses on leaders because they have the most significant influence on the culture within an organization.  Links in This Episode: The episode about sunk cost fallacy mentioned by Gary: The Job Hunting Podcast Episode 126: Why we make bad career decisionsAn article that explains Daniel Pink's three tenets of motivation (The Venn diagram Gary mentioned)Gary Ryan's book Other ways to enjoy this podcast: Read the full blog on the podcast websiteClick here to open the transcript of this episode. Career Coach: What is it, How does it work, and why you may need one (Ep 159)
Career coaches help professionals find jobs by providing career advice and guidance. Listen to this podcast episode and read the blog below to learn more about what they do, how they can help, and why you may need one! Career coaching services can significantly improve job seekers' chances of finding employment. Some popular career coaching services include resume writing, interview preparation, strengths assessment and analysis, and LinkedIn coaching. As a career coach, I offer all the services above, and they can be booked or purchased straight from my website. However, many professionals are unaware of the benefits of working with a career coach, mainly because when professionals do book coaching services, they don't tend to communicate that to their friends and colleagues. It gives others no clue that they have worked with a coach to achieve their goals. I'd say that 90% of my clients are like that. So let's discuss the benefits and why professionals opt to work with career coaches when they are looking to achieve specific goals with their job hunting or career ambitions. How to overcome a career setback (Ep 155)
Recently, I have been dealing with a personal setback for the past couple of weeks, and of course, my clients have lots of setbacks all the time. Although I often share on social media how excited I am about achievements from my clients when they get a new job or just signed a new contract, that doesn't mean the path to that ultimate goal has been trouble-free. The story arc from the point when somebody starts working with me to the time they "graduate" with a job is not linear. We learn along the way. We fail along the way. And sometimes, it can be very frustrating. So how do you overcome it? Listen to this episode, where I will discuss some of my tips and personal stories to help you deal with career setbacks. How to job-hunt and go back to work after a long break (Ep 154)
Many professionals have not looked for a new job in many years. They are either a) in the workforce but have worked for the same organization for a long time, or b) have been on a career break for some time and have not looked for work for over a year. Job hunting and returning to work after a long break can be challenging. In this episode, I provide some out-of-the-box advice to make this process less stressful and, hopefully, more fun. Timestamps:  1. Watch an episode of Grand Designs (04:16) 2. Seven Strategies to job-hunt effectively and get your next job faster (Ep 153)
This month, three coaching clients are starting new jobs. It is such a fantastic feeling for them and me to achieve this much-wanted result. And these are not just any jobs. These are excellent, special opportunities aligned with my clients' career goals and paying well. I like to think I had a hand in helping them. So I started paying attention to common traits my clients have that allow them to move ahead of the game and speed up results in their job searches. So, here are the 7 traits and strategies that I have identified as successful job hunting strategies when I work with my clients. I hope you enjoy listening to this episode. How to work while traveling: A guide for job hunters, business owners, and corporate professionals (Ep 152)
Many of us are already used to working from home, and working in a different location wouldn't be much different. I recently traveled overseas and realized that working while traveling allows you to learn more about yourself, your lifestyle, and the people around you. It also improves your communication and organizational skills. It can be uncomfortable to work outside your home or work office. There can be many unexpected and stressful things that might happen, but it can also be one of the best things you can do in life! So, here are some of my tips if you're planning to travel soon while working or job hunting. Podcast Episode Timestamps: 2:42 - Define what you want to get out of your travels.4:00 - Create a structure that supports the lifestyle you want.5:24 - Overcommunicate with your manager and colleagues.10:06 - Hold yourself accountable for meeting expectations. 18:47 - Travel with people who understand remote working.
