The podcast hosts always had an interest in nerdy things. Kayla started her journey by owning Pokémon cards and playing on her PlayStation 2. In her teens, she began to explore the world of cosplay. She could not participate because her parents didn't support this hobby. Kayla waited until later to learn about 3D printing, armor-making, and finding her people.

Finch also discovered his obsession with nerdy hobbies as a child. Unlike Kayla, he didn't have to hide that side of himself. The podcast host had the opportunity to form a group of friends around this interest. In 2019, he created The Finch Show, interviewing people about their nerdy endeavors. Kayla was a guest on one episode, and they had an immediate connection. This led to the pair's collaboration in 2022.

Nerdy AF offers interviews with people doing something fun in the nerd sphere. For instance, the hosts speak to cosplayer Arnette Figueroa in the first episode. They discuss creating her character and how she goes to the bathroom in her costume. In another installment, Kayla and Finch speak to the influencer SupermanFitt. He explains how he first became a nerd and gathered a large social media following.

There are instances where Kayla and Finch share their experiences from Dragon Con, Wonder Con, and others. They also do movie and TV reviews for things like The Matrix and Gen V. Nerdy AF is a true celebration of anything nerdy.
