Honouring the Roots of Yoga + Collective Healing with Harpinder Kaur Mann
You are in for a TREAT with this week's guest speaker, Harpinder Kaur Mann. She is truly someone who is living their purpose and embodying the teachings of yoga in her work and her teaching practice. During this interview found we have a lot in common too, as Harpinder also shares Yoga within addiction recovery, has found deep healing of trauma through her personal yoga practice and - she loves and sings to her many houseplants! Harpinder Mann (she/her) is a Sikh-Buddhist Punjabi-American yoga asana and meditation teacher currently living on Tongva Land (Los Angeles).  Her childhood consisted of trauma from domestic violence, sexual abuse, and bullying which set her on a journey of healing through yoga, meditation, activism, and brave community. Now she aims to move through the world with compassion and joy. This led her to create Harpinder Mann Yoga in 2018, where Harpinder now works with womxn of color 1:1 on reclaiming their power & intuition to be free through yoga asana, meditation, breathwork, and spiritual connection. She has over 800 hours of yogic training within the traditions of Raja, Vinyasa, Kundalini, and Prenatal Yoga from respected teachers across the globe. Without her teachers, ancestors, and women before her, none of this would be possible.She is also actively working to decolonize wellness by creating community and providing real accessibility to her ancestral practices for BIPOC as the co-founder of the Womxn of Color Summit, an equitable community organization focused on creating brave and inclusionary spaces for womxn and non-binary people of color to share stories and knowledge as well as make impactful change.We got into all of her work within addiciton recovery, and her brilliant co-creation of the Womxn of Color Summit, and her own personal healing journey and how pivotal yoga has been for her individual + collective healing, in this deep-dive episode! Cultivating Self-Love Through Yoga + How To Nourish, Not Punish Yourself!
This week's solo episode is all about the thing that honestly, truly matters most above all else: LOVE! We just had Valentine's Day and the big show of love for other people, but I wanted to bring it back to how important it is that we cultivate a (strong, unwavering) sense of love for OURSELVES, too! In this episode, I share about my own personal journey of cultivating self-love and how it is an ongoing process, that was greatly catalyzed by the start of my journey with Yoga. I am honestly a completely different person today, compared to the version of me prior to starting to practice + later, teach yoga! This episode covers a few of the ways that I have personally found deeper levels of self-love, self- trust, and self-acceptance, including the practice of yoga but also mindset work, inner child healing, meditation, and learning to love, accept and truly nourish (rather than punish) my body. I don't know of ANYONE (myself included) who hasn't at some point struggled with body image issues and/ or body dysmorphia, so this aspect is particularly close to my heart and the monumental difference made with accepting vs. hating your body is HUGE and worth sharing about! This episode also dives into some of the sneaky ways in which we can 'practice self-love' or do things that are in the name of making us feel better, but actually use those practices as yet another way to be critical of ourselves and punish ourselves for not doing or being 'enough'. This is something to be aware of, particularly if you are newly embarking on your self-love journey. I cover some of the ways in which this has shown up in my life in the past, and red flag things to avoid and question if you notice yourself beginning to show signs of this too! Ultimately though, this episode is a call to action to do the things for yourself that make you feel your very best, that make your heart soar and a smile beam across your face - those things, do more of them! More often! And together we will heal our inner critics and walk this beautiful earth in internal overflow of the self-love that we've cultivated - and let it flow all around us. How to Shift Your Perspective & View Your Setbacks as Blessings in Disguise
This solo episode was inspired by a recent situation I was in that felt terrible at the time BUT with a perspective shift, I now know it happened for a reason and can even see it as a blessing! Changing your perspective, especially around difficult situations, isn't easy - but let me tell you, it will change your life! What if you'd never experienced difficulty? Would you be as wise, caring, compassionate, as you are because of experiencing tough times and proving to yourself and the world that you CAN move through them? This episode is an open invitation to just take a pause and look within at your reaction/ response to difficulty, AND, I share the tools and steps I took to shift my way out of this recent struggle! Find solace in the fact that we're ALL just here to learn, and contrast can be helpful as it shows us clearly what we DON'T want to experience! I also share about how difficulty or setbacks often show up in our lives when we are taking action on positive change for ourselves. This is never by accident! It's our ego's way of trying to keep us safe (as you know from Episode 8, to the ego/ subconscious safe = the same), and so these things almost always come up to be looked at and released when we're making change and deciding to do things differently. Just another way our setbacks are actually helping us. In this solo episode we are going in-depth into an incredible and sometimes-overlooked meditation practice-  Yoga Nidra. Given that anxiety, trauma, and just the general stress of living in this world causes so many people to have difficulty falling asleep or trouble sleeping through the night, I felt like this was such an important thing to talk about right now!Yoga Nidra is an incredible tool and practice that allows your body to receive deep rest and through that, the body can begin its natural processes of repairing and healing itself. Yoga Nidra ALSO helps if you have trouble sleeping, as it deeply relaxes the body, mind and nervous system.  It is actually an ancient practice that, even if you only try it out for 30 minutes, you awaken feeling as if you've slept a full night's sleep.
