She Wants More

iHeartPodcasts

Are more women having affairs? Or are they finally just talking about it? Throughout history, women have been stigmatized, ostracized, and so much worse for committing adultery—while men have too often been given a pass. But the truth is that women have the same wants, needs and desires as men despite cultural assumptions.

Hosted by journalist Jo Piazza, this groundbreaking podcast seriesfeatures real women of different ages and backgrounds telling the stories of their affairs, many for the first time. After five years of reporting on marriage in the wildly popular Committed podcast, Jo is now uncovering the other side of monogamy and finding some surprising answers about the motivations behind female infidelity – from sex, to empowerment, to self-esteem, and even love.

In She Wants More, Jo explores the double standard of cheating, unpacking the guilt, shame, and the expectations placed on women. She has candid conversations with women about the affairs that have either strengthened or broken their marriages that will make you feel like you're eavesdropping on an intimate conversation between two friends. These stories will make you question everything you thought you knew about desire, monogamy, and marriage.

She Wants More was inspired by the book A Passion for More by Susan Shapiro Barash.

Our Editor's Take

She Wants More is an eight-episode podcast that explores female infidelity without judgment. Infidelity in women has gone up by 40 percent since 2002. A book called A Passion for More by Susan Shapiro Barash inspired host Jo Piazza to create this podcast. Jo wrote the bestselling book How to Be Married.

Jo talks to women (who use fake names) about their affairs on the She Wants More podcast. Many of these women are talking about their experiences for the first time. Jo also speaks to psychiatrists and other experts about what women seek and receive from having an affair.

"I got everything I wanted and needed" is the sound clip that starts the podcast's first episode. "Nikki" is in her 30s. She is a mother who has been having affairs for 12 years of her 15-year marriage. Nikki talks to Jo from her home, where she worries about the sound quality. She is running the washing machine and making lasagna while talking to the host. Many women can relate to having to multitask. It is not surprising when Nikki says that decreased communication contributed to her infidelity.

In another She Wants More episode, a woman in her fifties, "Monique," says she is happy with her husband. She only started having affairs because she wanted different sexual experiences. Monique also says that affairs have a consequential benefit. They enable one to connect with people they might otherwise never meet.

Some women may feel they get satisfaction from affairs. Jo says that these women act as if these affairs are the "secret sauce" to their lives. Yet infidelity can also make messes and backfire. For example, Jo talks to "Sarah," who left her husband for "Keith," her child's pediatrician. They ended up leaving their spouses and marrying. Then Keith cheats on her. Sarah's revenge on the mistress may shock listeners.

She Wants More treats the women on this show with respect. Fans of this podcast may also appreciate Under the Influence with Jo Piazza. This podcast is about being a mother in this modern age.
