Happy Birthday, Edgar Allen Poe! Presenter Ken Grout talks with Agatha Morrell about the life, love, and literature of one of America's most iconic authors. Poe was born January 19, 1809, in Boston, MA, and died October 7, 1849 (aged 40) in Baltimore, MD. His most famous works are poems “To Helen” (1831), “The Raven” (1845), and “Annabel Lee” (1849); the short stories of wickedness and crime “The Tell-Tale Heart” (1843) and “The Cask of Amontillado” (1846); and the supernatural horror story “The Fall of the House of Usher” (1839) and "Murders at the Rue Morgue" (1841) which is said to have "initiated the modern detective story".Ken Grout is a professor and writer who teaches and works with the art of oral presentation of literature. He was recently selected as an auditor by the Chautauqua Training Institute and is currently working on presentational material relating to both Oscar Wilde and Edgar Allan Poe.
