Ooh Baby, Baby
Despite being one of the richest countries in the world, why does the United States have the highest maternal mortality rate out of all developed countries? In this episode, we talk about maternal health with Cecelia Lim, a registered nurse working with babies and parents in the NICU at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She answers that question along with giving us a glimpse into the gaps in our healthcare system before, during, and after birth. Cecelia also breaks down the stigma against midwives and doulas and emphasizes their importance to maternal care. Episode Song Inspiration: “Push It” by Salt N’ Peppa...Resources“Maternal Mortality and Maternity Care in the United States Compared to 10 Other Developed Countries”: https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/issue-briefs/2020/nov/maternal-mortality-maternity-care-us-compared-10-countries“Giving Birth in America: California - A Story of Pregnancy and Immigration”: https://everymothercounts.org/on-the-front-lines/giving-birth-in-america-california-a-story-of-pregnancy-and-immigration/“A National Paid Leave Program Would Help Workers, Families”: https://www.cbpp.org/research/economy/a-national-paid-leave-program-would-help-workers-families#:~:text=Eligible%20workers%20can%20take%20up,to%20take%20military%20family%20leave ...Host: Dabney BriceCover Art: @julscraftzTheme Music: @_giogenesis...Follow The Uplift with Dabney Brice Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/theuplift_podcast/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The-Uplift-with-Dabney-Brice-102931281856513YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpRC7tJGNxAEbTk_M6AcejADabney’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dabneybrice96/

There’s more to Black culture than the struggle. Yes, the struggle is very real but there’s also joy, laughter, and excellence. That’s why I decided to bring my friends, Erika Scott and Gabe Rollins to talk about how they define Black culture and whether or not they think it’s limited to solely Black people. We also have fun sharing our favorite Black tv shows, movies, and music artists and then end it with a fun game of Black trivia! Episode Song Inspiration: “To Be Young, Gifted, and Black” by Nina Simone...Our Favorites! TV Shows: That’s So Raven, Proud Family, My Wife and Kids, Family Matters, Sister Sister, The Famous Jett Jackson, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Martin, Living Single, Moesha, A Different World,Movies: Sister Act 2, Brandy’s Cinderella, Love Jones, Love & Basketball, Waiting To Exhale, Set It OffMusic Artists: The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, DMX, Hezekiah Walker, Marvin Sapp, Yolanda Adams, Cece Winans, Anita Baker, Bryan McKnight, Whitney Houston, Maxwell, Michael Jackson/Jackson 5, Mariah Carey, Boys II Men, Ciara, Beyonce/Destiny’s Child ...Follow Erika & GabeErika’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/erika.l.scott/Gabe’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/grandpopgabe/...Host: Dabney BriceCover Art: @julscraftzTheme Music: @_giogenesis...Follow The Uplift with Dabney Brice Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/theuplift_podcast/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The-Uplift-with-Dabney-Brice-102931281856513YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpRC7tJGNxAEbTk_M6AcejADabney’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dabneybrice96/

Building A Home
Currently in the United States, there are over 800,000 people who are under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. These ‘dreamers’ were brought into the country as children from all over the world and DACA allows them to work and study here without fear of retaliation and deportation. Now we hear so many varying views on the program, but what is it like being a Dreamer? Today, we have current Lehigh senior and DACA recipient, Julius Wibisono to share his experiences. We talk about what support DACA has given him, his hopes for the future, and what ‘home’ means to him. Episode Song Inspiration: “To Build a Home” by The Cinematic Orchestra... Follow Julius WibisonoInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/juliusverdio/Twitter: @juliusverdiiWebsite:https://www.juliusvwibisono.com/...Resources‘For DACA recipients, a Senate vote and a Texas judge stand between citizenship and deportation’: https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/news/nation/2021/04/14/immigration-reform-dreamers-daca-recipients-hope-stay-us/7004644002/ United We Dream: https://unitedwedream.org/ ...Host: Dabney BriceCover Art: @julscraftzTheme Music: @_giogenesis...Follow The Uplift with Dabney Brice Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/theuplift_podcast/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The-Uplift-with-Dabney-Brice-102931281856513YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpRC7tJGNxAEbTk_M6AcejADabney’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dabneybrice96/

It's A New Day
If you learned anything from this past year (or the last four), it’s that our government affects our daily lives and so it is our duty as citizens to pay attention to what is happening beyond an election cycle. Through his show, “The Political Mike,” Michael Taylor’s goal is to be of service to others not only by informing them about current political events but also encouraging people to be engaged and active in our democracy. For this episode, we get into where Michael’s passion for public service and politics came from, his previous experience on Capitol Hill, and his future goals.I want to hear your thoughts so make sure to leave a rating and a review! ...Follow The  Political MikeInstagram:  https://www.instagram.com/thepoliticalmikepodcast/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVhL80ScirdkNSWPX-Y_EQg...ResourcesNew Source Bias Map: https://www.marketwatch.com/story/how-biased-is-your-news-source-you-probably-wont-agree-with-this-chart-2018-02-28"The Bucket List for Involved Citizens: 76 things you can do to boost civiv engagement": https://www.brookings.edu/blog/education-plus-development/2019/11/12/the-bucket-list-for-involved-citizens-76-things-you-can-do-to-boost-civic-engagement/...Host: Dabney Brice Cover Art: @julscraftzTheme Music: @giobrice07...Follow The Uplift with Dabney BriceInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/theuplift_podcast/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/The-Uplift-with-Dabney-Brice-102931281856513YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpRC7tJGNxAEbTk_M6AcejADabney Brice: https://www.instagram.com/dabneybrice96/
