Sami Halvorsen, the host of the podcast, The Teen Life Coach, thinks that pre-adulthood should be fun and exciting. It is a time when young people can learn more about their personalities. They can uncover their place in the world. There is so much to look forward to.
But Sami also knows that most teens suffer from self-doubt and insecurities. There is a lot of pressure on them to fit in, succeed, dress a certain way, and present themselves on social media. All of that can lead to crippling anxieties and severe depression. Coach Sami, as she likes to refer to herself, will not stand for that.
As a teenager, Sami also suffered from anxiety, so she understands it well. But neither she nor her parents knew what to call it. It was only when her teen daughter started getting withdrawn and losing her joy in life that Sami understood what it was. The daughter suffered from anxiety so debilitating that she had to stop going to school. In a desperate move, Sami enrolled her in a five-week rehabilitation program. But it was only after five months that they finally saw improvements.
This experience changed Sami's perspective on teens' mental health. She saw how the treatment improved her daughter's life. As a result, she wanted other people to experience that as well. So she resumed her studies and became a certified life coach specializing in teens. With her podcast, The Teen Life Coach, Sami continues her work on a larger scale. It is a place for her to provide practical tools for teens and their parents. She wants teens to become more confident, happy, and content with their lives.
In The Teen Life Coach, Sami talks about lighthearted topics as well as serious issues. Some episodes discuss dating or homework, while others talk about self-harm. She shares anecdotes from her own life, as well as struggles her clients had to face. The goal is to make teens feel like they are less alone and can face everything that comes their way. New episodes debut weekly.
