Navigating Joy Together

Lauren, Mark, Addison, and Hunter Raymond

We are a family like every other family. We have high points, low points, and struggles. The goal is to start and end our day joyfully. We will be sharing our successes, trials, and tribulations, questions or situations that come up in our family or in each of our lives. We will also share how we support each other in dealing with life struggles. Our intent is to create a take-away of how we problem solve a bad situation into a joyful one. read less

The Raymond Rebels Family Dinner Meeting
I love our family dinners! This is the time for us to connect about our day, what is happening personally and to hold family meetings. Our favorite place to hold these meetings is at the dinner table. This week we discuss our puppy, Pearl, who is getting into items that are left out, specifically food. We also discuss with the kids their future in their orchestra for the remainder of the school year, and finally how to make some changes in cleaning up things that do not get cleaned up regularly by ALL of us! Why are we discussing all of this? So Mom does NOT have to keep nagging everyone about it.  Yep, I do because clean up does not get done and violin practice is NOT happening consistently!   We all know that nagging is a huge JOY CRUSHER!  Who wants to be nagged? And who wants to nag? You will hear how we navigate these topics with the kids and as a family, keeping the emotion low and the fun up all the while coming to some conclusions! As always, we would love to hear what you took away from this episdoe, so reach out to me. (See below for ways to do that)Finally, send this episode to ONE person you know would like this episode. Encore Episode: Revisiting A Year Of Joy With Liz, Carroll
This episode is a wonderful conversation with Liz Carroll who shares her experience with JOY.  Liz Carroll is a life-long student and teacher of making mindful money moves. Originally believing she was "bad with money," Liz did the hardwork to rewrite her money story. She needed to drop limiting beliefs about how a woman can earn and manage money to set her up for financial success in a way she would commit to and follow. It worked. Liz attained financial independence and retired early from her corporate IT sales career. Now, in her encore career, Liz helps other women experience calm confidence with their finances by unpacking and shifting their own money story. She has the unique ability to shed light onto darkness around money, making complex personal finance issues simple. She created the Mindful Money Method, a financial wellness course and coaching program that utilizes a holistic approach to math, mindset and soul-guided desires. Liz is a Certified Financial Coach from Ramsey Solutions, a Certified Life Coach from The Life Coach School and a 200-RYT Yoga & Meditation Instructor from Purna Yoga College. She and her husband live on the Oregon Coast.Their adult children visit regularly.Liz shares how she intentionally planned a "Year of Joy" trip for her 50th birthday.  Yes, she preplanned her budget and started saving. Everything she did in her "Year of Joy" were experiences except for one item she purchased.  We discuss the importance of how experiences can continue to bring JOY for a lifetime compared to material items. Plus we discuss that one doesn't need a lot of, or any money to create JOY. There are many "free" things that can be done that bring JOY.  We also talk about what Liz does, and how she helps other women create a more abundant and financially sound life. Tune in and be ready for some great take-aways from Liz. Encore Episode: Revisiting Bug Therapy, Mental Health and JOY!
Another one of my favorites that I can listen to again and again! In this episode, we talk with Michael Jann and Michele Jourdan.  Michael is an Emmy-nominated late-night comedy writer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. Michele is Mike’s wife, writing partner, and a gold-medal-winning body-builder. She likes working out so much, she actually married a dumbbell: Mike.Their story is deeply personal: Their 27-year-old son Max’s mental breakdown, hospitalization, diagnosis, and ongoing recovery (fingers crossed), fuel their passion to fight the stigma of mental illness. You can’t solve a problem if you can’t talk about it. BUG THERAPY uses humor and entertainment to break the ice. Listen in on some wonderful insight about BUG THERAPY, mental health, and JOY. Michael and Michele share where their idea for BUG THERAPY came from and the personal connection they have to it.  They want to share with others that it is ok with whatever is going on in one's life and it's ok to get support.  This short film has already brought out a clear, powerful message and has been used all over.  Plus, hear their plans for the next step of this movie. They also share with us their personal experience with mental illness and their son, how they have navigated what was happening and how laughter, gratitude, and exercise created joy to help them get through what was happening with their son. Finally, hear their perspective on how JOY and mental health are connected. To watch the short film on youtube click this link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6n7aMfxKecTo follow BUG THERAPY and what Michael and Michele are doing with it click on the website below or find them on any of the social media platforms listed. http://www.bugtherapy.filmFollow Bug Therapy on social media:FacebookTwitterLinkedInInstagramYouTubeTikTokDrive-A-Logue link: https://drivealogue.com/?sca_ref=4141865.xLTkWKLvJW Put NJT in the coupon box for a 20% discount!Lauren's Book, My Dad Died From ALS and How I Found Joy 30 Years Laterhttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2J15M3ZCONNECT WITH LAUREN AND HER FAMILY Email: lauren@dailyjoy.usIG: https://www.instagram.com/laurensdailyjoy/FB: https://www.facebook.com/lauren.g.raymond

Dinner Table Talk: Setting Up Our Summer for JOY
It is SUMMER!!!!  School is out, activities and sports are done, now it is time to play and relax!  How do we still make sure we read, limit screen time, not argue about the things that frustrate us, and use our time together to have FUN and create JOY? Mark came up with three questions for us to think about at the beginning of June.1. What do we want to for reading this summer?2. What does screen time look like?3. What is it that makes you frustrated that creates nagging, being nit picky, and creates negative energy. We thought about these questions for two days and then we discussed them at one of our family meeting table talks. We all came up with goals.  Now that is is July 1st, it is time to revisit them. This episode shares our goals for each question and we reflect on our progress. How do we alter our reading goals since NO ONE has read except Mom?What will make it interesting? How are we doing on our screen time and how can we adjust and get better? Are we all following our agreements to eliminate the anger and frustration with the common problems that create JOY crushers? This conversation is our normal table talk when we have our family discussions.  There is a lot of laughter as we figure out what our next steps are to navigate JOY together! Drive-A-Logue link: https://drivealogue.com/?sca_ref=4141865.xLTkWKLvJW Put NJT in the coupon box for a 20% discount!Lauren's Book, My Dad Died From ALS and How I Found Joy 30 Years Laterhttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2J15M3ZCONNECT WITH LAUREN AND HER FAMILY Email: lauren@dailyjoy.usIG: https://www.instagram.com/laurensdailyjoy/FB: https://www.facebook.com/lauren.g.raymond

Encore Episode: Revisiting,..Sharing JOY through "My Aloof Vagina" with Martha McBride
I'm so excited to share this conversation with Martha McBride. We connected over social media and found we have a lot in common, especially our goal to live in JOY daily.Martha shares her experience with a bad breakup that led to depression and how she was then able to get out of that. She also shares how she knows she is living in a state of JOY each day.  One way she knows is if she is singing. Not just songs on the radio but even when she can't find her keys. Haha! I love it! She also shares how she consciously chooses JOY during daily tasks that "have to" be accomplished. Finally, we hear how she is sharing JOY with others, especially with women who are in perimenopause. How BRILLIANT is this! Menopause is something that isn't talked about and women have a negative connotation about this time of their lives.Martha really brings laughter, light, information, and JOY into a topic that we all think is so negative!Well,  ladies...It DOESN'T have to be!!!Here is a link to her podcast!https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/my-aloof-vagina-a-cheeky-guide-to-perimenopause/id1671264417If you are approaching this time in your life, are going through it, or have passed through it, I encourage you to listen to this wonderful podcast!!!Drive-A-Logue link: https://drivealogue.com/?sca_ref=4141865.xLTkWKLvJW Put NJT in the coupon box for a 20% discount!Lauren's Book, My Dad Died From ALS and How I Found Joy 30 Years Laterhttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2J15M3ZCONNECT WITH LAUREN AND HER FAMILY Email: lauren@dailyjoy.usIG: https://www.instagram.com/laurensdailyjoy/FB: https://www.facebook.com/lauren.g.raymond

Finding JOY During Traumatic Events
Feb 15 2024
Finding JOY During Traumatic Events
Itś hard to find JOY when we are suffering from traumatic events whether past or present.  I was looking up articles recently to see how JOY and trauma relate to each other and found this great blog post about it.  https://tinybuddha.com/blog/why-joy-is-important-for-healing-developmental-trauma/ by  Irina BengstonEven though it is specific to developmental trauma, I believe what the author says can be put into play in all kinds of trauma or when dealing with a traumatic event. I was looking for this information because of the last couple traumatic events my family has experienced.1. Our 4 year old doggy dyeing unexpectedly in September2. Our car burned down in our drive way just after we got out of it, in December. Both of these events have been very traumatic for us and we have been learning how to navigate and process them.  My kids have not yet experienced death this closely yet and who experiences a car burning down in their driveway? I would think that is rare. This blog resonated with me. Here is what the author shares:Learn to tolerate difficult emotions.Live in the moment.Learn to calm yourself.Engage yourself fully.Help or shareChoose joy. There are a few others so take a look at the post and see what else she has to day. https://tinybuddha.com/blog/why-joy-is-important-for-healing-developmental-trauma/ by Irina BengtsonDrive-A-Logue link: https://drivealogue.com/?sca_ref=4141865.xLTkWKLvJW Put NJT in the coupon box for a 20% discount!Lauren's Book, My Dad Died From ALS and How I Found Joy 30 Years Laterhttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2J15M3ZCONNECT WITH LAUREN AND HER FAMILY Email: lauren@dailyjoy.usIG: https://www.instagram.com/laurensdailyjoy/FB: https://www.facebook.com/lauren.g.raymond
