Our Editor's Take

On the She Pivots podcast, Emily Tisch Sussman talks with inspirational women. Vice President Kamala Harris and actress Priyanka Chopra are only two of her impressive guests. The show does more than address their most significant accomplishments. Emily discovers how her guests overcame personal and professional challenges to become the women they are today.

Emily created and hosts this award-winning podcast. She is an ardent supporter of women who amplify their voices in all she does. Emily is no stranger to "pivots." The Tony-nominated producer is also a former Democratic political strategist. When she left her political career behind, the busy mother of three had to rediscover herself.

On She Pivots, Emily discusses personal identity and career success. Each episode features a special guest. The host poses the essential questions right away. Emily asks questions like "What have you struggled with most? How did you overcome the challenges that seemed insurmountable? What no longer serves you? How did you use your lowest point to get to where you are today?" In each interview, listeners learn how women remade themselves.

Actress and singer Vanessa Hudgens starred in Disney's High School Musical series. As a teenager, her dreams were coming true. But Hudgens felt trapped in the image the movie created of her. Emily finds out how Hudgens started on Broadway. They also discuss how she overcame the media's negative attention over her body.

When actress Brooke Shields joins, she talks about what it was like to start acting as a young child. Shields was 11 years old when she appeared nude on screen. Soon, she became one of Hollywood's objects of desire. Shields shares how she reimagined herself and created success on her own terms.

Guest Laura Coe tells Emily that sometimes pivoting is "the only option." After her divorce, she founded Snapology. Coe wanted to help her son and other children find after-school activities right for them. Other guests, like educator Susi Massey, found themselves through education.

The She Pivots podcast tells stories of female resilience and destiny-making. Listeners can join Emily every week for motivational conversations.

Kelly Sawyer Patricof and Norah Weinstein: Nurturing Change through Baby2Baby
Kelly and Norah were on very different life paths. Kelly was a model, who spent her free time volunteering with Head Start - an experience that opened her eyes to how many children lacked basic necessities, like properly fitting shoes. Norah was a lawyer at a high-powered New York City firm, who enjoyed engaging in pro bono work, especially in helping low-income women secure housing and other resources. But a dinner between the two - arranged by Kelly’s father-in-law - revealed their shared passions for nonprofit work, their new status as mothers, and their interest in pivoting in their careers, eventually leading to the two women becoming the CEOs of Baby2Baby. Now, Baby2Baby provides millions of diapers and other essentials to those in need and garners support from an impressive list of celebrities, including Jessica Alba, Kim Kardashian, Ayesha Curry, and Drew Barrymore. In this episode of She Pivots, Kelly and Norah talk about the role of celebrity engagement in Baby2Baby, the logistics of their first 100,000 diaper donation, and overcoming sexism they have faced as CEOs of a female-led non-profit.
