On this week’s episode of Saint Podcast, we welcome the worldwide-known James LaBrie — most known for being the famous lead singer of the American progressive metal band Dream Theater. James shares his musical journey through the years that lead him to live his lifelong dream of being an internationally successful musician. Dream Theater has sold almost 20 million records worldwide and received 3 Grammy Award nominations – recently accepting a Grammy Award in late 2022. James discusses how their success was magnified after releasing their second album Images and Words in 1992 and the details of his lifestyle touring in a band worldwide. James continued to persevere through the challenges of being a startup musician for eight years before finally reaping the reward of landing his big break as lead singer for Dream Theater in 1990. If you are struggling with self acceptance, judgment or being a people pleaser, you’re not alone and we’ve all been there. As a matter of fact, most people still struggle with these tendencies on a daily basis. It takes true determination to trust in one's inner strength and to build courage to overcome the fear of being judged and to fully embody your confidence, opinions and values. Being true to who you are down to the core is a challenging but also liberating feeling once accomplished. It is so important to spend time with yourself, to truly get to know yourself and all your likes, dislikes, outlooks, etc; and once you are solidified with that foundation, the rest of self acceptance becomes easier. Surrounding yourself with individuals who know you and accept you for who you truly are is one of the most special bonds you could ask for, but that comes with feeling secure within yourself first. At the end of the day, you cannot please everyone, no matter how hard we try. It can come as a surprise to some, or a hard pill to swallow for others; but that is the harsh reality of life. It’s okay to say no to your friends and prioritize spending a night in. It’s okay to not have the same opinions and values as others. With self acceptance comes confidence, and with confidence, comes the elimination of caring what others think of you. You are your own person, and there is no one else quite like you in this world. Embrace that and fully embody who you are at the highest frequency. That’s what makes you so special and unique from the rest. Are you ready to break free?

It’s easy to feel discouraged and lost in life when thinking about your career and figuring out what “your purpose” in life truly is. Especially when you witness others around you that appear to be thriving in what they do. A crucial sentiment to remember in life is that we must always embrace the journey, and even the mystery that comes with it — that’s what makes it so special.When you begin to love the journey, all the goals begin to follow naturally; almost as though it’s a reward. Along that journey, you will have ups and downs, and even some detours. It’s natural to feel stagnant sometimes, and that you don’t know which direction to go. But as humans, we have full control of what goals in life we desire to attain and are fully capable of achieving the life we dream of if we work hard enough. We all hold the power within us, you just have to be ambitious and devoted enough to find it. Life is a mystery, and you never know what tomorrow will bring, but that is the beauty of it. Be patient with yourself and trust that the path you are on is the one that is taking you to your ultimate destination.
