Your Soul Is Calling, Are You Too Busy
You wake up with a laundry list of things to get done, grab a cup of coffee and jump in. There’s no space to ask the BIG questions like, ‘is this what I’m on this planet to accomplish?’ or ‘Is this why I’m here?’ You’ve just got to get through the day. What if we keep ourselves busy and distracted so that we feel important and don’t have to go any deeper? What if society’s ‘chase’ game keeps us from the real meaning in our lives? Chase the next thing, the next accolade, the next accomplishment - and we keep chasing. The thing is, at some point, we get there. We achieve it all - only to realize none of it is what we were really seeking. Do you want to find that out now? Or after years of chasing? There is a shortcut. In today’s passionate podcast, Maren and Stephanie show how listening to our soul’s calling and doing “what's ours to do” is actually the shortcut to fulfillment - and it’s not just finding your meaning, but you get to live it abundantly, joyfully and spaciously!00:41 chasing the prize, busy with the next thing03:55 do all the work, or take the shortcut06:10 who is showing up?12:52 what worked in the past may not work in the future15:51 the one thing20:29 upgrading from the running thoughts and reacting27:11 from chaotic hot mess to guidance, graciousness and kindnessWhere are you passionate and feeling called in your life?TRANSCRIPTWatch on YouTubePlease share your insights and questions in one of our Soulful Leaders groups: Facebook Group LinkedIn Group Get all the latest episodes, news and updates directly to your inbox. Questioning Control, Life Beyond the Reins
Control, where does it fit into our lives? Does it serve us? Or is it holding us back?In this week’s podcast, Maren and Stephanie have an open conversation about control that will have you looking more deeply at these questions in your own life. We’re taught that control is the answer to all of our problems. If we could just get control over our lives, our teams, our eating, our bodies, etc. Control as an ideal is pervasive, especially amongst leaders. Yet there is a place beyond control that speaks to us of freedom. How do we reach that, and where might it fit into our everyday experience? Is our penchant for control actually keeping us stuck?Step out of the ordinary and explore these ‘control’ questions, the power of imagination, living outside of time - and more. Stop Reacting, Own Your Zen
A reaction triggers a reaction, which triggers another, and another. As leaders, this can turn into an out of control snowball. How do you get it under control? Even better, how do you keep it from happening in the first place.Problems, attacks and blow ups often end with blaming, shaming and an adrenaline fueled internal running commentary. All that energy needs to go somewhere - lashing out at someone else, or being internalized. Regardless, it’s a lose lose. The good news is - it’s just a pattern, and patterns can be broken. Stephanie and Maren have a spirited discussion about this critically important subject. They share their own stories along with great insights, ways of shifting perspectives (and patterns) and practical tools to set up a new modus operandi so you can own your Zen.09:54 Chain reactions: the inflammatory response - external and internal19:18 Peace is a side effect - The Ox & the Monkey Story24:00 Replacing judgment with compassion, changing how/where we get our dopamine hits“I don't want to get my dopamine hits from blame and shame and not being good enough anymore. Procrastination: The Hidden Gem
“If I'm still for a moment, I'm procrastinating - and I feel guilty.” How often have you thought that? Our culture worships ‘doing’ and ‘being busy’. There are volumes and volumes of books, blogs, vlogs and more on how to beat procrastination. You can’t turn around without bumping into one. What if they, all those talking heads, aren’t quite right? What if we are actually keeping ourselves so busy in our lives that we never get a chance to look inside, to be with ourselves, to learn who we really are and what we want? What if procrastination, stopping for a moment, being still, were actually a benefit, something to be cultivated? In this entertaining episode, Stephanie and Maren expose multiple adverse affects around the conventional ‘wisdom’ that procrastination is a bad thing to be expungedshare the benefits of pausing in your life Teach you how to build a practice that will increase your ability to manifest, build resiliency and allow you to be truly prepared going into the unknownThe only way to hear your inner guidance is to stop. Beginner’s Mind: The Path of Mastery (Challenging Old Leadership Beliefs)
Leadership = have all the answers and prove yourself over and over. Why is this old thought process still SO pervasive??? It’s not only backwards, it’s outright damaging - to everyone involved. It keeps us stuck and eliminates all possibility. It’s 100% tied to the ego and excludes all the latest, amazing research on what great leaders REALLY do or how to become masterful at anything. Yet it’s still what is taught.Richard Branson asks questions of those that he leads, he doesn’t answer them. Showing up WITHOUT the answers, in a place of not knowing, that is Beginner’s Mind, that is the place of possibility, that is where mastery lives.Stephanie recently did something that’s been on her bucket list for 30 years which led to this fascinating conversation with Maren about the power of beginner’s mind, including how to access it, how to cultivate it and the amazing transformative power that it wields.Be sure to listen to the end as there are a few life changing practices tucked in like hidden gems. Our Process: An Ongoing Co-Creation

Our Process: An Ongoing Co-Creation
There’s a formula for how things are done. At least that’s what we’re told, what we believe. If we just learn, and follow, the ‘right’ formula, we’ll be successful. So we try. We spend our time and money on the next quick fix, the next sure-fire thing, the next “10 steps to…”.As leaders, this is exponentially true for us because we’re expected to have all the answers. The problem is that the answers we’re buying are all from the past. They won’t work where we’re going, and we are already seeing the evidence. So where do we turn? The truth is, the answers are not ‘out there’, the future is calling to each of us and we are being asked to connect, be present and learn to co-create with the future itself. What does that mean and where do we start?Today Maren & Stephanie go through their unusual creative process, for both this podcast and their businesses, which strays far off the beaten path. They share their Leadership that goes beyond the formulaic teachings into the wisdom of the incoming future. If you are ready to break out of the old scarcity modes and reactivity cycles, to become abundant, agile and responsive, to be present and co-create with the future that wants to happen, you will love today’s podcast. Burdens to Blessings

Burdens to Blessings
We’re not meant to do it all. Yet society tells us the opposite. Throughout school we’re expected to do well in all subjects and to work harder where we are weak. At work, the expectation is the same - be good at all aspects, dig in where we’re weak. This training has created a siloed and separated society where asking for help feels, at best, taboo. The reality is that each of us brings unique gifts and blessings that are meant to be shared, to compliment those of the people around us. We are meant to do what we are best at, not struggle with our weaknesses. We are meant to ask for help and to be in community. Some businesses are FINALLY moving from a place of worshiping the siloed, ‘do it ourselves’, ‘we're all competitors’, ‘wipe out every every other living thing that might possibly compete with us’, to a new way of doing business which is collaborative, cooperative and co-creative.Stephanie and Maren expose the responsibility of leaders to put collaboration and cooperation at the front of the line. Their insights will help every leader replace the old ‘prove yourself’ model with one of embracing genius and building relationships. Today’s podcast debunks the myths and puts a clear new path on the table with great examples and wonderful exercises. It’s time for leadership to step up.“Having somewhere where you actually need someone's help allows a relationship to unfold.” ~ Stephanie Allen00:41 The ‘doing it all’ juggling act02:58 Asking for help, or not - what do you tell yourself?08:56 Being in service - how does that make you feel?11:19 Intimacy: a superpower in business16:09 The fast track to enlightenment18:50 It’s a choiceLINKS05:05 Kintsugi Podcast: Ep 39 Matt Damon, Kintsugi & A Set of Dishes16:44 “The Next Buddha will be a Sangha.” – Thich Nhat HanhTRANSCRIPTWatch on YouTubePlease share your insights and questions in one of our Soulful Leaders groups: Facebook Group LinkedIn Group Get all the latest episodes, news and updates directly to your inbox. All-In AND Completely Detached
Sep 12 2023
All-In AND Completely Detached
As leaders we’re expected to be “all-in”, that’s the minimum, so what does that mean in today’s culture and what about the cost(s)? Based on quiet quitting and the proliferation of help wanted signs, the business pendulum seems to be swinging in the opposite direction. Is there a middle road, one where ‘all-in’ isn’t a recipe for burnout and illness, and detachment doesn’t mean going away or giving up? If so, how do we access it?Stephanie and Maren have been talking about alternatives to the old ‘push, strive, make things happen’ paradigm, and today’s podcast explores yet another important aspect - how to be ‘all-in’ without losing your life. They discuss navigating the popular ‘letting go and trusting the unknown’ thought process, especially for those who are responsible for making things happen as well as many other aspects of this fascinating subject.“My sense of self was dependent on whether I made this goal or not.”  ~Maren OslacLeadership has been following a path that is no longer working. Looking to the past for answers is a recipe for more of the same. It’s time to radically change “business as usual” to be business as UNusual. It’s time to let go of the suffering we were told was necessary and embrace what Maren & Stephanie call ‘holding things lightly’.00:41 Buddha: suffering comes from attachment06:04 Setting internal structures to foster success instead of leadership failures and a deteriorated sense of self11:17 The arrogance of ‘making’ things happen and the magic of ‘making’ space17:00 Beyond conditioning, building the skill of daily surprise and delight20:31 What does your future self have to say about it?“Receptivity requires space and consciousness and a skill to actually be present and be still.” ~Stephanie AllenTRANSCRIPTWatch on YouTubePlease share your insights and questions in one of our Soulful Leaders groups: Facebook Group LinkedIn Group Get all the latest episodes, news and updates directly to your inbox. Using Complaining as Opportunity
Sep 5 2023
Using Complaining as Opportunity
We all do it. It happens in our heads, it happens at work, it happens at home. Most of the time we don’t even notice we’re doing it. Is it hardwired into us? It’s not something we WANT to do, especially as leaders, yet it’s pervasive. What if it was actually an ‘opportunity’ sticking its head up?Stephanie and Maren start this enlightening conversation with the question, ‘when you complain, do you want energy or do you want change’? When we ramble on about all the things that are wrong, do we want someone to simply listen and agree, or do we want to actually change the situation? It’s a simple question, yet it’s a game changer, especially done without judgment. From that engaging intro, they cover everything from how to handle with complaining at work, incessant complainers, the inner complainer AND, most importantly, practices to help us evolve and become more aware so that we can capture the opportunity in the complaints. This is a must listen for leaders in every walk of life.00:42 Do you want energy or change?03:38 Going into a meeting depleted, how to re-energize10:59 Meet me where I am so we can go together14:55 Whose responsibility is it? When Life Goes Sideways
Have you ever had one of those days, or even weeks where everything goes sideways? You have a plan, you are working your plan and someone drops a ball - the babysitter is late, the meeting gets pushed back, or your account gets hacked. Your carefully laid plan is in the trash and most often drama ensues. What happens next is up to you, yet so often it ends up being a frenzy of haphazard, stop gap measures that end up having to be fixed later. What if it could be different?Taking a moment and shifting ever so slightly can mean the difference between tuning into divine timing and the gift that’s being offered and cleaning up after an ’issue’ for weeks, or even months, to come. If you are ready to let go of the suffering and claim the abundance in each ‘sideways’ moment, today’s podcast is for you. It is all about owning leadership from the inside out, to actually free yourself so that you can step into the flow of life and let all aspects of it work for you.“Life is about things going sideways. Hustle Culture: The Never Ending Consumption Binge
Our ‘more is never enough’ culture has taken its toll. Personally we are in debt, worn out, overworked and mentally and physically ill. As a culture, ‘quiet quitting’ is rampant, businesses are closing and people are more and more disconnected and polarized. This is the cost, the backlash, to the rampant ‘more more more’, ‘push push push’ that has consumed us for years. What we are experiencing is a reaction, not a solution. The good news is WE are the solution. Maren and Stephanie talk about this challenge that each of us faces and how we, as leaders, must tune into our ‘why’, our meaning in life, to make a difference - for us and for those around us.Shutting off your phone, not going to work or saying I'm only available from nine to five are all great things, and they are only boundaries for a life that doesn't have meaning. ~Stephanie00:42 The F’s that create more problems than they solve: fixing, forcing and figuring05:34 Doing something you love that nourishes you08:45 Making space for the quest, the questions that empower14:42 Responding instead of reacting to embezzlement21:55 Our vision: everybody on the planet’s outward work is their passion25:29 When a tree falls, it doesn’t ‘poof’ just disappear, it feeds the forestWithout the inner inquiry, when we quit, we also quit on ourselves ~ MarenWe hope you’ll join all of us at TSLP in choosing to make the space, do the inner work and transform the world in which we live.LINKSTicket to Paradise (movie 22:40)TRANSCRIPTWatch on YouTube_______Please share your insights and questions in one of our Soulful Leaders groups: Facebook Group LinkedIn Group Get all the latest episodes, news and updates directly to your inbox. Intentional Leadership: Shaping Future Generations w/Barbara Miller (& Zeffy)
How do you balance opposites? Especially as a leader. A challenge comes up and it gets polarized. It becomes one of two things, 'push through', or ‘it’s not meant to be’. How do we find the ‘in-between’? Barbara Miller walks that path both personally and as a leader. She holds a fierce intention and shows up very gently, with curiosity and space. If we could bottle Barb, we would. We’ve done the next best thing, we’ve interviewed her.“Just looking around, what does the community that I'm fortunate enough to live in need? 'Being the Change' as a Leader
Aug 8 2023
'Being the Change' as a Leader
We want something to happen “out there”, in the world. We want to change another, we want to change our circumstances (partner, job, finances, etc.), so we get busy DOING - fixing, forcing and making something happen in the world - and it rarely works and often creates more stress for everyone involved. There is an alternative and it’s encapsulated in Gandhi’s quote, ‘BE the change you wish to see in the world’.  We often assume this means - go do something ‘good’, save the whales, pick up trash, treat someone well. While those are important, and part of what is meant, there’s SO much more. There’s the inner aspect. What does that mean? To do the “inner work”, to change you in order to change the world? This is the most powerful form of change, and those that walk this path are the best leaders on the planet. Maren and Stephanie dive into what ‘being the change’ means for leaders and in our everyday lives and how we can begin, or continue, on the path to real, lasting, powerful change - internally and externally.00:41 A mother, her son and Gandhi05:13 Outer actions represent inner thoughts, changing them can create instant outer transformation06:15 Gandhi's inner leadership09:16 The inner leadership practice to get what you want in the outer world16:17 Still not good enough. Where am I acting out that way that I might be unconscious? Second: Where am I doing that to myself, I might not be doing it to someone else, but I might be doing it to myself. Third: Where am I not being compassionate and loving towards others who are doing it and they don't know that they're doing it? So I often will look at that. Fourth: Who am I being called to become? Is there a quality, more compassion, more patience, more whatever, that I'm being asked to embody? Trust and Flow
We’ve all had those moments in our lives when everything feels ‘right’, we are totally engrossed in what we are doing and completely in sync with life - it’s magical. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi calls this the flow state, the optimal experience in life. Our challenge is two fold. One, how do we create this state of flow ‘at will’ instead of stumbling across it now and again? And two, how do we maintain it once we get there?Stephanie and Maren directly connect trust to our pursuit of flow in today’s short, powerful podcast. Using examples from poker champion, Phil Ivey, to the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once, this week’s podcast is not only engaging but will leave you with keys for shifting your own life towards more flow. “It can be joyful, even when it's hard.” - Stephanie Allen00:41 How trust is related to flow04:44 Inner awareness, imagination and the secret to not aging07:47 Decisions from a place of trust and flow, and then things go sideways14:01 Your winning formula, creating real transformation19:34 The two hardest moments and how to know you’re in flow“When I know I am in flow, is when there's both effort, and sweetness.” - Maren OslacLINKSMasterClass  (01:01) appI Get To vs I Have To (14:58) podcast EP15 Stories We Tell Ourselves: Redefining Our TruthEverything, Everywhere, All At Once (16:25) moviePractice Doesn’t Make Perfect (17:48) podcast  Episode 39, "Matt Damon, Kintsugi and a Set of Dishes"TRANSCRIPTWatch on YouTubePlease share your insights and questions in one of our Soulful Leaders groups: Facebook Group LinkedIn Group Get all the latest episodes, news and updates directly to your inbox. Leadership that Blooms: Nature’s Metaphor
Jul 25 2023
Leadership that Blooms: Nature’s Metaphor
We all want to be accepted, to be included and to feel safe. We most often find that security and belonging with people who are like us. It’s where we’re comfortable and it’s easy to be ourselves. The challenge, especially for leaders, is that this creates a ‘monoculture’, and it comes at a cost. Creating a world of people who are like ‘me’ means we think the same, there’s little to challenge us, and most importantly, it's NOT where growth happens. It’s not where scaling up and reaching all of the possibilities that we're meant to step into happens. The cost of monocultures is most easily observed in nature which is the exact metaphor Maren & Stephanie explore in today’s insightful podcast. Redefining Resiliency

Redefining Resiliency
Resiliency is a buzzword. It’s everywhere these days - all of it focused on conquering obstacles and  getting back up - all so that we, as leaders, can get back to business as usual and stay on track. What if it’s not about getting back to business as usual? What if true resilience is embracing and moving through our challenges so that we emerge a different person on the other side? Then the track we were on would no longer fit us. What if true resilience empowers us to disrupt the old paradigm?Today, Stephanie and Maren tackle this catchphrase. Stephanie shares how she likes the word because it reminds her of re-silence and inner silence makes the space we need for true resilience. One of the keys to all of it is presence. Being present creates the space, the connected silence, that allows for spirit to step in and guide us. This, the space beyond our inner critic and our judgments, the silence beyond, is where Spirit speaks. This short, powerful episode will have you looking for your own places of presence and thinking of resilience in a whole new way.00:41 Resiliency: outward, inward - how about both06:53 Bouncing back, or bouncing forward 11:22 Clearing space internally15:49 I just want more guidance“This human being is a guest house, every day a new arrival, a meanness, a sadness, a temporary, emotion that comes in, cleans us out, sometimes empty of all our furniture. Welcome each one of them as a sacred guest, because they may be clearing you out for some new delight” ~RumiTRANSCRIPTWatch on YouTubePlease share your insights and questions in one of our Soulful Leaders groups: Facebook Group LinkedIn Group Get all the latest episodes, news and updates directly to your inbox.
