The Parable Podcast with Danielle Zapchenk

Danielle Zapchenk

The Parable Podcast is a place for conversation and stories that illustrate God's presence in our everyday life. A Parable is simple story used to illustrate a lesson. We see Jesus in the Bible sharing these with others so well. And the truth is, we all have stories big or small. Sometimes they are really funny, messy or difficult …. whatever it is you can look back a specific moment or a season in your life and say without a doubt God taught me "this." Can't wait for you to listen in.

If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." - Ferris Bueller Finding Awaited HopeSo I wait for the Eternal—my soul awaits rescue—and I put my hope in His transforming word. Welcome to the Parable Podcast, today I would love to share one of my recent messages from our home church as we take a little holiday break here at the Parable Podcast.  First, let me say thank you! When you have so many options to choose from, thank you so much for being a listener. 2023 has been a great year and I have been so encouraged by all of these stories. Please enjoy this message wherever it may find you today. What happens if joy is not separate from pain? What if joy and pain are fundamentally tangled up with one another? Or even more to the point, what if joy is not only entangled with pain or suffering, or sorrow, but is also what emerges from how we care for each other through those things? What if joy, instead of refuge or relief from heartbreak, is what [bursts forth] from us as we help each other carry our heartbreaks? - Inciting Joy by Ross GaySermon NotesChoosing joy changes our relationship with others. Happiness is how you feel when good things happen to you. Joy is an attitude and way of life that you choose despite what happens to you. “Finally, brothers and sisters, fill your minds with beauty and truth. Meditate on whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is good, whatever is virtuous and praiseworthy.” Philippians 4:8 “More than anything you guard,……protect your mind, for life flows from it.”Proverbs 4:23 CEBBut even if we Choose joy, does it change our relationships with others? “Nevertheless, it was admirable of you to participate in my affliction. Philippians 4:14 Reflection QuestionsRemember Happiness is how you feel when good things happen to you. And oy is an attitude and way of life that you choose despite what happens to you. TPP #121 | The Way of Gratitude with Hannah Rowen Fry
In this episode, Danielle interviews writer and author Hannah Rowen Fry about her journey of moving to Florida, discovering writing, and approaching the scripture with gratitude. Hannah shares the parable of the doctor-prescribed keto diet and how it taught her about the spiritual discipline of fasting. She also discusses her book, 'The Way of Gratitude,' which explores the intersection of gratitude and identity. Hannah's prayer is that readers of her new devotional would realize their value and encounter God in a new way.TakeawaysApproach scripture with a posture of gratitude and awe, allowing it to inform and lead your life.Start simple when practicing spiritual disciplines like fasting, and have realistic expectations.Gratitude is a skill that can be learned and cultivated, leading to a deeper understanding of one's identity and value.Embrace the simplicity of faith and encounter God in the everyday moments of life.Reflection Questions1. This may seem hard at first, but what is one thing you can fast from this week?  Remember it doesn’t always have to be food (people, places, actions, etc...). Be mindful that whatever it is, is meant to draw you nearer to God.2. Sit for a moment and listen to God, so you can uncover some of the intrinsic value you bring to the world.Connect with HannahWebsite | Instagram | ResourcesPlus, check out Hannah's devotional | The Way of GratitudeHow to support The Parable Podcast: #1 Subscribe or Follow the show so you don't miss the next episode of The Parable Podcast through your favorite podcast app (i.e. iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher). #2 Share this show with a friend, this is a perfect opportunity to start your own Parable Conversation together.#3 Are you in need of a speaker for your Church, Women's Group, or event?
