A WORD IN YOUR EAR is an eclectic new weekly podcast by a former national radio broadcaster, TV producer, raconteur and long-time host of a popular daily radio show. Yes, all of these in one person!

It's a easy-to-listen-to documentary and social comment piece - dealing with people and places and things as experienced by its presenter in an engaging, tongue-in-cheek and, I hope, entertaining style.

All things being equal, there will be a new one every Monday — and in the meantime, hopefully to give you a foretaste of what's to come, a few episodes that have proved popular in the past are offered here.

Stretching from Mossel Bay, about 240 miles along the east coast from Cape Town, the Garden Route stretches for another 150 miles between the port town of Mossel Bay to the improbably-named Bloukrans Bridge, the site of the world's highest (703 ft) commercially operated bungee jump. The Garden Route is a stunning chunk of real estate, made up of many different worlds. As a boy, growing up in the South African sun, the young Richard Innfield's staunchly British parents always referred to the UK as 'home'. This confused the boy - surely he was at home already? However, when he and his parents visited London in mid-1965 for what was his first time, he was surprised to note how surprisingly the real thing resembled his boyhood imaginings.
