Our Editor's Take

Comedy Bang Bang: The Podcast is one of the original comedy podcasts. A fan calls it "the first head on Mt. Podmore." Comedian Scott Aukerman has been making listeners laugh here since 2009. That's back when most people listened to podcasts on actual iPods, not smartphones. The program's original name was Comedy Death-Ray. It started as a live show, then became a radio show, and then a podcast. Aukerman brought the podcast to TV from 2012 to 2016. But he kept the program as a podcast as well.

The program combines a talk show, sketch comedy show, and a bunch of friends making each other laugh. Comedy Bang Bang: The Podcast also has a very catchy theme song. Show creator Aukerman has a long history in comedy. He was one of the cast members of the legendary Mr. Show with Bob and David sketch comedy TV program. He also helped create the Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis talk show. And Kulap Vilaysack, Aukerman's comedian wife, has a successful podcast of her own called Add to Cart.

Aukerman makes Comedy Bang Bang: The Podcast hilarious. But he also has a slew of comedian friends to bounce jokes off and to add to the humor. He describes the program as "the show where we talk to interesting people." And the podcast has had many such great guests over the years. Nick Kroll, Patton Oswalt, and Andy Samberg have all appeared. Paul F. Tompkins from Mr. Show has shown up for many episodes. Fellow Mr. Show cast members Bob Odenkirk and David Cross have also joined the silliness. Aukerman has toured with Comedy Bang Bang: The Podcast, and some episodes feature a live audience.

Comedy Bang Bang: The Podcast has recurring segments like Doug Loves Movies and Would You Rather. There are also jokes and lines longtime listeners know, like "What's up, hot dog?" and "All joking a salad." But new listeners can start listening to the show at any point. They will have years of episodes to choose from, including "best of" episodes.
