This finance guru launched a financial literacy program to support female market vendors in Uganda
Women are the backbone of the household in Uganda — they manage the home, care for the children, pay school fees and hospital bills, and contribute greatly to the household’s livelihood. Supporting women means supporting the entire family. In Uganda, women also are more likely than men to be motivated to start a business out of necessity. However, the survival rates of their businesses past 42 months is lower than that of men. Many of their business challenges include accessing financial services.
Inspired by the strength of his single mother who is a serial entrepreneur, Akram Mpagi launched Project Fingrow- a financial literacy program for women who work as market vendors. In this episode, Akram shares his professional journey as an accountant and his motivation for launching a social impact initiative.
