Chronicles is the second time the history of Israel was recorded. Samuel covered the history of King Saul and King David. Jeremiah covered the kings of the divided kingdom after Solomon. Though Chronicles repeats some of what was already written, it highlights stories that weren’t covered. Chronicles is full of lessons for the Jews. Lessons that they failed to obey with the first go-round of their history. God felt the need to reinstate the teachings. Chapter 11 starts the chronicle of King David. Several years ago, I dug into my family’s ancestry. I knew one of my mom’s cousins was a well-known Socialist revolutionary in Spain. For some reason, she was proud of him. Yet, on my dad’s side, I discovered my great great grandfather helped to abolish slavery in Puerto Rico! Now, that’s something to brag about! When it comes to Jewish history, it was important that the lineage of the Messiah lead from King David, then further back to Abraham, then even further back to Adam. Growing up Catholic, I was deprived of God’s Word and hence, God’s Truth. Now, I can’t get enough of the Bible — it’s like a treasure chest full of God’s Goodness. The Psalms are praise songs and prayers to God covering many topics. Psalm 119, though it’s the longest one, is a beautiful prayer, praising God’s Word, the Bible. It’s a Hebrew acrostic poem; there are 22 stanzas, one for each successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Each of the eight verses within each stanza begins with the Hebrew letter named in its heading. Read it aloud with me.
