Our Editor's Take

The Mid Show is a Chicago podcast from Barstool Sports. The show covers the Chicago sports teams, especially the Chicago Bears. It also covers popular culture, such as when one of the hosts went to a Dead & Company show. (He described it as a religious experience.) This is also a podcast that speculates on whether grinding is cheating. The podcast hosts wonder who in their office would run away from a fight.

The Mid Show podcast is the latest version of Red Line Radio. The show's revised title comes from its Midwest focus. "Mid" is also a slang term for mediocre, showing the self-deprecation on this show. The earlier podcast had four hosts. They were Dave "White Sox Dave" Williams, Ryan "Barstool Chief" Brandell, Eddie Farrer, and Michael "Barstool Carl" Sterk. In January 2023, Carl announced on the show that he was leaving. It appeared to be an amicable departure at the time. Messages from Carl later came to light. In these, he criticized the "toxic" atmosphere of the show. Carl claimed that Chief tried to get him fired two years earlier. Chief responded on the show by saying the three other hosts decided they could no longer work with Carl. The current podcast just has the other three men.

Chicago athletes appear on The Mid Show. The hosts interviewed Bears legend Brian Urlacher. The NFL Hall of Famer shared details on his relationship with Jay Cutler and playing golf with Jim McMahon. The podcast hosts have debated who is the worst owner and GM in Chicago sports. News topics like the Northwestern hazing scandal get discussed on the show as well. The hosts also talk about how they hate Yankee fans. Sometimes the hosts do activities for the show, as when they visited a UFC gym.

Non-sports topics the podcast hosts have discussed include the scariest childhood books. They have talked about Ring doorbell video compilations. The hosts even spent a weekend at a country music festival.

The Mid Show podcast appears every Tuesday and Thursday.
