Farm + Ranch Show with Sage Faulkner

Jerry and Sharon Devers have been ranching in the Chama area for decades.  Pillars in the community and a wealth of experiences in agriculture, the Devers share a few of their stories of running yearlings with a cook wagon, the near-misses and horse wrecks, and the rodeo days of their youth.

Dana visits with Sage of the Farm & Ranch Show about her role with Forest Stewards Guild and the coordination of the 2-3-2 Cohesive Strategy Partnership, which coordinates efforts to promote resilient landscapes that protect and improve water resources for communities, provide habitat for wildlife, and support the economic and cultural resilience of communities within and downstream of the 2-3-2 boundary.

Cody Dems of the Forest Stewards Guild and an active member of the 232 Cohesive Strategy Partnership, visits with Sage of the Farm & Ranch Show about the work he is doing in the area.  Cody works at the confluence of people and forests to protect and promote resilient forest communities. He collaborates with various land stewards to measure the effects of forest and watershed treatments on the communities and ecosystems of northern NM and southern CO.

Farm & Ranch Show featuring Dr. Andrea and staff from Southwest Veterinary Services.  Dr Andrea talks about her certification in PAP testing and the need for high elevation cattle stock producers to utlize it.  She and her staff also talk about the changes to the livestock antibiotic rules and what producers will need to do to prepare.

Farm & Ranch Show host Sage visits with her dad, Tuck Miller, about superstitions.  Tuck talks about the origin of some of his superstitions, which often came from his time spent in arenas and racetracks, as well as others he grew up with.

Chama district forester, Jose Carillo, and George Ducker, communications coordinator for New Mexico Forestry Division, will both be joining Sage to visit about their roles with NM Forestry Division and what landowners need to be thinking about with a new fire season starting.

Chama Peak Land Alliance's Program Director, Sage Faulkner, visits with her daughter Keelin.  They discuss younger generations views on conservation, agriculture, and thing that she is currently involved in growing up in a ranching family.

Ag agent and Interim County Program Director Donald Martinez Jr. explains how the local 4H program provides variety and versatility to kids in the area and helps hone their skills for greater success in the future. Sage and Don also talk extensively about all the ways from raspberries to livestock that the Ag extension office shows up to support the residents of Rio Arriba County.

Aaron manages approximately 28,000 acres in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado for Rancho del Oso Pardo. Aaron has an extensive background in wildlife ecology and management. He graduated from New Mexico State University and double majored in Wildlife Sciences and Fisheries Management. He has a passion for the outdoors, responsible land stewardship, and conservation.

Rancher Sage Faulkner interviews Carlos Salazar, the president of the Northern New Mexico Stockman's Association.  They discuss the directive to kill cattle in the Gila, the upcoming Northern NM Stockman's meeting and other ranch related issues.Carlos Salazar is a rancher and farmer and is a retired employee of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He is a graduate of New Mexico State University and is a US Army veteran. He currently is serving as president of Northern New Mexico Stockman’s Association (NNMSA). He also serves as vice-chair of the New Mexico Federal Lands Council and vice-chair of the New Mexico Cattleman’s Water Committee.

Ralph Martinez, livestock inspector with the NM Livestock Board, speaks about rules and regulations for transporting livestock.
