Ep 42 - Are labor unions GOOD or BAD?! 💰 A historic strike at Kaiser Permanente
Healthcare workers demand their worth!!! Check out the latest episode of the Nice Veins Bro Podcast where we discuss the historic 75,000+ employee strike and tentative deal reached by Kaiser Permanente and a coalition of unions. The largest healthcare labor dispute in U.S. history concluded with a new contract that addresses staffing shortages and includes 21% wage increases over the next four years. Tens of thousands of nurses, ER technicians, and pharmacists participated in the three-day strike, highlighting the impact of understaffing on patient care. The involvement of U.S. Labor Secretary Julie Su was credited in helping to reach the agreement. Lexa and I also discuss all about labor unions within healthcare - are they good or bad? At what cost did Kaiser succumb to the bargaining table? Who's going to pay for all this? Be a positive force and influence within healthcare and society. Que Dios me los bendiga ♡ - @nenepablo NICE VEINS BROacortes@niceveinsbro.comWesbiteInstagramFacebookNENEPABLOnenepablorn@gmail.comInstagramYouTubeSpotify #NiceVeinsBro #NVB #GodWellnessPurpose** Views and opinions are exclusively our own and do not necessarily represent that of our employers. Ep 41 - Working in a PSYCH WARD 😱 traumatized me for life
Today we're looking into a story about a psych ward worker who claims to have been fired for taking a mere 15-minute break... have you ever wondered about the ugly realities of working in a psychiatric hospital? THIS MIGHT BE IT!! Despite repeatedly voicing her unease and feeling ill-equipped to work one-on-one with a patient with a history of assault, she was coerced to continue. We dissect the trauma she experienced, the risks she was exposed to due to inadequate training and staffing, and the responsibility resting on the shoulders of her higher-ups. Plus, we try to unpack what she can learn from this experience and how she can rise above the bad circumstances so she is better prepared to stand up for herself in the future. Be a positive force and influence within healthcare and society. Ep 40 - The FUTURE OF BIRTH: Artificial wombs already a thing?! 😨
Ever imagined the reality of a world where babies can be nurtured and brought to life outside a human womb? Well, brace yourself as we unpack this bold, and perhaps unnerving reality. We shine a light on the science-fiction-like concept of artificial wombs and how they could revolutionize neonatal care. We navigate the intricate phases of testing this technology, weighing its potential rewards against the inherent risks, and contemplate its role in saving the lives of premature babies. As we tread further into this futuristic landscape, we're compelled to confront the ethical dilemmas that loom with this technology. What does this mean for cost-driven access? How might it modify the traditional sentiments attached to pregnancy and childbirth? And, perhaps most importantly, how might the emotional and psychological well-being of an infant be affected if they are grown in labs instead of a mother's womb? Be a positive force and influence within healthcare and society.Que Dios me los bendiga ♡ - @nenepablo NICE VEINS BROacortes@niceveinsbro.comWesbiteInstagramFacebookNENEPABLOnenepablorn@gmail.comInstagramYouTubeSpotify #NiceVeinsBro #NVB #GodWellnessPurpose** Views and opinions are exclusively our own and do not necessarily represent that of our employers. Ep 35 - Why healthcare is broken 🏥 💔 & how to FIX IT

Ep 35 - Why healthcare is broken 🏥 💔 & how to FIX IT
In this episode I discuss the broken healthcare system and how we can take responsibility to make positive change. I address common complaints about the healthcare industry, such as lack of access to medical are and discrimination, and encourage listeners to focus on what they can control and take action in their own areas of influence. The episode emphasizes personal responsibility and growth, building strong relationships, setting goals, and accepting feedback. Here are the main takeaways on how we can practically work on ourselves so we are better prepared to address the large issues within the broken US healthcare system: 1. Start by acknowledging your own flaws and areas where you can improve 2. Focus on what you can control and take action in those areas 3. Take the initiative to learn and grow in your field 4. Build strong relationships with colleagues and supervisors, first by listening and then patiently communicating effectively 5. Set goals for yourself and hold yourself accountable by plugging into a community that has people with varied opinions 6. Always accept feedback as a healthy opportunity to grow rather than an attack. Do not be afraid of correction! Be a positive force and influence within healthcare and society. Que Dios me los bendiga ♡ - @nenepablo ** Views and opinions are exclusively our own and do not necessarily represent that of our employers. Ep 33 - How to deal with difficult patients and families 🤬
Do you ever find yourself hating your job in healthcare because of impatient, inconsiderate, and downright rude patients and families? In this episode we're going through some practical tips on how to deal with it! First, you must do some self-evaluation. Second, set some clear boundaries and communicate effectively. Don't forget to listen actively and stay cool and professional at all times. Remember, sometimes you gotta be the bigger person and bring in the healthcare team or supervisor if things really get rough. In the end, we must always remember that patients and families in most healthcare settings are going through some of the lowest moments in their lives. While this is no excuse to be rude, it helps us empathize more with the people we work with. Be a positive force and influence within healthcare and society. Que Dios me los bendiga ♡ - @nenepablo ** Views and opinions are exclusively our own and do not necessarily represent that of our employers. GUEST: Aaron Rivera, RN - In this episode, Aaron shares why it's important for nurses to find time to do what they love outside of work. Tune in to hear his insights and personal experience as an ICU travel nurse, power-lifter, and creative! Working in healthcare can be tough and stressful, so it's important to take a breather and recharge for mental and emotional well-being. Pursuing hobbies or interests outside of work can also provide a sense of purpose and joy beyond one's career. Finding a strong, positive community is super critical! When nurses feel fulfilled and happy outside of work, they're more likely to bring enthusiasm and positivity to their job. This can lead to better patient care and outcomes, too! Ep 29 - Hospital pressures patient to go HOSPICE?! 😱 HCA Healthcare
In today’s episode I share my perspective on a recent story regarding HCA Healthcare pressuring patients and their families into hospice. Read the full article here: https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-care/doctors-say-hca-hospitals-push-patients-hospice-care-rcna81599 The article states, “Salas said she believed her daughter would pull through, but doctors and nurses at the hospital kept telling her otherwise. Over 10 days in October, less than a month after Perez entered St. David’s, Salas received repeated visits from a palliative care nurse, her hospital record shows. Every other day, Salas said, the nurse urged her to initiate end-of-life care for her daughter. Several of Perez’s doctors also pressed Salas to remove her daughter from the ventilator, she said, in visits confirmed by details from Perez’s chart.” Is this just a big misunderstanding? Are hospitals hiding something? And if it really is a hospital-wide agenda, what kind of benefits could they have with more patients on hospice? Comment below with your opinion… Be a positive force and influence within healthcare and society. Ep 28 - Hospitals don’t talk about this anymore 🤒 You won’t believe how simple! NEWSTART Lifestyle Program
Healthcare today is so focused on disease care versus prevention. But hospitals don’t promote the fundamentals of health living anymore! Living a healthy lifestyle involves many different factors, including good nutrition, exercise, water, sunlight, temperance, air, rest, and trust in God. Each of these elements plays an important role in maintaining physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. And often times, these basic elements, if implemented appropriately, help reverse and heal the already diseased! Today, we’re reviewing the basic health fundamentals. Have you ever heard of NEWSTART? It’s an accronym that stands for: Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sunlight, Temperance, Air, Rest, Trust in God. Let’s start from the top. Good nutrition is essential for fueling the body with the nutrients it needs to function properly. Eating a balanced diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats can help prevent chronic diseases and promote overall health. Exercise is also crucial for maintaining good health. Regular physical activity can help improve cardiovascular health, build muscle, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. It can also improve mental health by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. Water is another essential element of a healthy lifestyle. Drinking plenty of water can help keep the body hydrated, aid in digestion, and flush out toxins from the body. Sunlight is also important for maintaining good health, as it provides the body with vitamin D, which is necessary for strong bones and a healthy immune system. Temperance, or moderation, is important for maintaining balance in life. This means avoiding excess in all areas, including sugar, alcohol, caffeine, and other substances. It also means practicing self-control and avoiding harmful behaviors. Air is something we often take for granted, but clean air is essential for good health. Breathing polluted air can cause respiratory problems and other health issues. Taking steps to reduce air pollution and improve indoor air quality can help protect our health. Finally, sufficient rest and trusting in God are important for maintaining overall well-being. Getting enough sleep and taking time to rest and recharge can help reduce stress and improve mental health. Trusting in God can be a source of great comfort, peace, and strength during difficult times. In addition to giving us the necessary support to face life's challenges, it can also help us maintain a positive outlook on life and maintain our spiritual health. Moreover, our faith is an essential aspect of salvation, as it helps us to build a strong relationship with Christ as we follow His teachings. By relying on God's guidance and wisdom, we can navigate the ups and downs of life with greater ease and confidence, knowing that He has already won the victory for us and offers etNICE VEINS BROacortes@niceveinsbro.comWesbiteInstagramFacebookNENEPABLOnenepablorn@gmail.comInstagramYouTubeSpotify #NiceVeinsBro #NVB #GodWellnessPurpose** Views and opinions are exclusively our own and do not necessarily represent that of our employers.
