With Her Two Hands

Bogi

Formerly known as Trades Lady Happy Hour, With Her Two Hands is a weekly podcast dedicated to celebrating women in the trades. Live, Candid and Unscripted conversations with women who work in the trades building, fixing and making things with their own two hands. Women make up less than 10% of trades people, and in some industry the numbers are as low as 2%. This podcast seeks to change that by shining a light on these incredible women. Celebrating them, sharing their struggles as women in incredibly male dominated fields, and increasing their visibility to attract, retain and create space for that number to start to increase. If she can see it she can BE it. And if HE can see it, he can BELIEVE it. Tune in for these candid conversations every week. Listen, learn, laugh and get to know the women who keep the world running. read less

185. Female Mechanic & Fabricator speaks out about sexism and racism she experienced.
In this episode of With Her Two Hands, Bogi sits down with 'Dora Marquez', a skilled Latina auto mechanic and fabricator who has experienced some pretty extreme sexism and racism throughout her career. Using a pseudonym to protect her identity, Dora brings decades of invaluable experience and unyielding passion for her craft to our conversation. Despite facing harsh discrimination that escalated to a victorious EEOC case, Dora's dedication to her profession remains unshaken. In a powerful and candid discussion, with her identity and voice carefully disguised, Dora will share the stark realities of her experiences, her strategies for resilience, and her reasons for persisting in an industry she loves. Tune in for an eye-opening episode that explores the challenges and triumphs of staying true to one's passion against all odds. Note: after this aired - Dora decided to create an instagram account under her pseudonym in order to connect with others who may need guidance on the EEOC process or just would like to be able to connect with others experiencing discrimination on the job within the trades.
